Mizu nods when Mina mentions Soma's helpfulness, and shrugs when she asks if the Mayor is forthcoming, "Not much has been said yet." He says quietly.
When the Mayor motions them into the living room to sit down, Mizu takes a seat on the floor and sits crosslegged. Then he watches with a calm, reserved expression as the mayor explains his plight. Once the man is done talking Mizu says, "How long has this been going on exactly? Have you heard anything from any nearby villages? Is this a localized problem, or have any of them had anything similar happen?" He pauses, resting his hands on his knees after adjusting the angle of his back scabbard so it isn't pressing against the floor.
"This has been going on for a little over a year now. As far as I know, Withermore is the only town experiencing these issues. I haven't heard of any other villages sharing out plight, but then again, I haven't received word about any of the villages on the other side of the forest. All of the surrounding villages seem to be doing fine, but then again none of them are particularly close to Withermore...but whose to say it won't spread? Whatever is taking people if focusing on fey heritage, and there aren't many people matching that description left in Withermore. What happens when they are all gone?"
When Kulogall and Mina enter the living room, Leeta waves at them cheerfully. The team was together! It was so weird for her to be working with so many people. Weird, but nice. The halfling quickly turned her attention to the Major, and then to Mizu when he started talking. When he finished, she added:
- Uhmmmm, a knight and his squire? And who might they be? We could speak to them as well to see what they have learned. But you haven't had any news from them? Have they disappeared too?
Seeing the man so frustrated, Leeta feels a wave of empathy towards him and hops from her seat to approach him. Placing a hand on his arm, she says:
- We'll see this through, you'll see. We have just arrived and haven't been able to find that much just yet, but we will find out what is happening here. And of course, stop it. Right, Mizu? - she added, looking at her best friend with a confident smile.
"Always the optimistic", Master Jezza used to say about her. "...or perhaps, plain stubborn", he usually added afterwards. Well, whatever the case, she would definitely do anything in her hands to help the people of Withermore.
The Mayor turns to Leeta. "The knight's name is Cassian Crossheart. Bill's told me he's staying at the Stonedog inn, though you'll likely only see him there late in the evening or early in the morning."He sighs, "They don't seem to want to speak with me. When he got here he pretty much just announced his arrival and now hasn't spoken to me since. I'm not sure why but I feel like he doesn't trust me, or any of the townsfolk. Bill says whenever he asks about the investigation Crossheart changes the subject, but the guy seems more than willing to speak with other investigators. He might have information, but you'll have to ask him in person. I don't think they've disappeared. Bill said they checked in last night..."He smiles at the halfling's optimism. "Thank you."
Mina listens to the dire news from the mayor. Understandable, but disappointed he didn't have any information for them to help them figure things out. "Maybe we need to head to some of the areas the missing people were last seen? Maybe there will be some clues left? I'm not really sure. Is there any sort of pattern with the people missing? Certain days, full moon? So many on a day? anything?" her frustration of the situation getting the better of her.
"Personally, I would start with Yarrow the Blacksmith's apprentice. His mentor vanished two weeks ago, but Yarrow's the closest thing you'll find to an actual witness. If you leave soon, you should be able to catch him before he closes shop. The most recent victim was Angila, her house is on the outskirts of the forest. From what I understand, it's likely she was taken from there. She was sick after all, probably bedridden. Unfortunately, all of her family members left soon after she vanished. Her house is the most recent crime scene, as she vanished two days ago." He glances out the window. "Though I would recommend waiting until tomorrow to look into that one. The smithy is in town, her house is about a mile out and I wouldn't recommend wandering around at night."He scratches his balding head, "Well, the most obvious pattern is that all of the disappearances have taken place at night. The rate of disappearances is extremely inconsistent, but now that I think about it they seem to increase when there is no moon."
Kulogall nods, crossing his arms. He says to the mayor, “And why do the missing ones seem to be of fey ancestry? Any idea about that?” He tries not to, but his eyes dart toward Mina. He stands firm and strong, crossing his forearms even tighter.
He sighs, "I have no idea. Some of the villagers speculate that there's some sort of curse on the town."
"Just wanted to check. Usually whenever I rock up to something like this I'm given a task that would stall for time and away from the actual goal. And I don't want a repeat of this. All I want is to now not just who, but why. If these disappearances have been going on for a while, I need to know what those culprit's motives are. I need to why to they insist on letting this happen and what they intend to do in the upcoming days we're here."He growls. Small wisps of flame emit from the ends of his smooth, long hair as he says so.
Rixi listens to the mayor converse with the others, though with the aquatic ones he again keeps his distance and hold in the monster caged within his fiery soul. Besides taking a slight interest in Mizu, who reminds him of his kitsune and dark elf companions, He's got nothing much to say, so it wouldn't be wise to spit unnecessary facts when they're not needed. When offered to sit down, he insists to remain standing. At the mention of a sole who never showed up, Rixi turns to the mayor suspiciously. "One knight? That's it?" He raises an eyebrow sceptically. "How many were you actually expecting and from where? The idea of sending one person who hasn't arrived at your request sounds rather dishonourable. Unless I assume he's got something to do with it... Again, I'm not expecting you to have the answer but either way, I need background info."
Right. So even the townsfolk are blaming this guy for it. Sigh... whatever. He's got a job to do so if he can identify who the culprit is and find more clues about how to kill the sworn enemies that nearly ruined him in the past, it's a win-win. "Look, sir. I'm not here for the money. I'm just here to finish what you started..." He trails off before shutting into his thoughts. Plus something greater than that... Something that I need to vanquish, before it vanquishes me. And right now, those water guys that I'm forced to ally with seem like a good place to begin my rampage... if it wasn't for that wizard and half-elf here. I kind of owe them in keeping my rages in check...
"I wish I knew young man." Mickael replies, "I hope your investigations manage to answer some of those questions..." Then he nods, "One knight, I was hoping for at least fifteen. I've been asking all of the larger cities, I don't really care where they come from, but Crossheart says he was stationed in Balder's Gate before taking on this 'mission'." He listens to the genasi's last statement, "That is very kind of you. I pray you have better luck than I."
Kulogall stands with arms crossed, as Rixi launches into the Mayor, pressing him. He nods and considers, watching the Mayor’s face, thinking merely “Is he really this clueless, that he doesn’t know what could be happening in his town? Afraid of being “swamped”, by his own people? He’s not lying… is he?” He tries to discern from his body stance and word inflections, but in the end he doesn’t really know and chooses to take him at face value, waiting to see if Rixi’s words have any effect.
Insight : 6
From what Kulogall can tell, everything this man has said sounds truthful.
Mizu gives Leeta a firm nod--which is about as enthusiastic as he would get during a mission like this. He is determined to get to the bottom of this, not just because it was assigned to him by his Master, but also because he can't stand by and watch as people go missing.
"Hmmm," he says in response to the Mayor. "Yes, that is concerning." Thoughtfully, he tilts his head the other direction as he ponders what to ask next, all the while listening to the Mayor's responses to the others.
When that is finished he stands up and says quietly, "I suspect Crossheart suspects everyone here, so he doesn't want to share what he's learned in case he is on to something. A smart move..."He crosses his arms, once more tilting his head in though, "Hmm... well, perhaps we can arrange a meeting with him later, after we speak to this... Yarrow." He looks to Leeta, then to the rest of the company as if expecting some feedback or objections. Tapping his elbow with one finger, he says, "Or we can split up and investigate both leads, but... there is safety in numbers." Of course, if they waited too long on investigating Angila's house, the trail might go cold... if it hasn't already within the last two days. Perhaps, if they are lucky Crossheart has already investigated the house--if he was there closer to the time of the disappearance, he could have useful information.
- Yarrow first seems sound to me. And we will surely meet this Crossheart fellow later, when we go back to the inn to rest for the night. So those seems the options for today. Angila's house will have to wait until tomorrow, if going at night seems so dangerous. And...yeah, I also think it is better if we stay together.
She looks at the rest to see what their opinions are and then remembers something else to ask the Major:
- By the way, I imagine most fey people have already left the town, but just in case: do you know if there's anyone with fey heritage that hasn't left yet?
Mina nods with the mayor's response. "Thank you for at least having some leads for us to start with. And the timing as well. Interesting about the moon..." she trails off as she considers this bit of information.
"I agree with Leeta, we should stick together for now." She winks at Kulogall, but then her gaze pauses at Rixi. She's unsure what to think of him, other than noticing he keeps his distance from her. She tries to discreetly smell her pits... no, it's not that...
"I am curious about this Crossheart knight, I wonder if he has found out anything in the short time he has been here."
Rowarin does not seem to think there is any reason for the mayor to lie right now, he genuinely seems like a man at his wits end. "OK then, I guess for now we'll go visit Yarrow quickly before he closes shop. Thank you Mayor, and if there is anything that else that comes to mind, please send message to us. We are staying at the StoneDog."
With that, he nods his head courteously and moves towards the exit, glancing at his comrades actions to see if there is anything else being said before leaving.
Rixi glares at his teammates and then the mayor without uttering a single word, almost as if he's expecting nothing else from them. He's caught up between staying as a group with his sworn enemies or splitting up to do their own thing. Either one of them has their benefits and flaws but... "Sigh... It's best we stay together. What if one of the groups encounters something awful and the other half isn't able to come to their aid?" He speaks up before deciding that he should leave too. Before that though he give a polite bow to the Mayor. "Arigato (Thank you). We won't fail this. I swear on my behalf."

Raising an eyebrow and moving closer to him so as not to be overheard by the mayor, "How do you know we won't fail? So far we don't have much to go on. What if whatever it is takes the last of the fey here and we never hear from them again? I see a lot of doubt so far in this operation. Though I sincerely hope we can turn it around."
“You’re right Rixi, we won’t fail!” He shoots the fire genasi a big grin, letting out a small chuckle to diminish the tension in the room. “So Yarrow it is, let’s press on, shall we? Just want to be clear….” Kulogall waits for the mayor to reply, then says “Let’s all keep together for now. A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
The Mayor thinks for a moment, "Well, the first that comes to mind is that band of orphans Liliana won't stop bothering me about. They aren't all fey blooded, but there are at least two of them running around that are. That group used to cause a lot more trouble around here, makes me worry for them. There's also Rayla, she's a moon elf who lives with her husband just a little ways down the road from here. ...her daughter went missing fairly recently." He sighs again. Rowarin, would remember that these are Fraya's parents.
The Mayor nods to the aasimar, "I will...and please, keep me updated on your search as well."
He tilts his head to the Triton, "I can pay you 8,000 gold. Not each mind you, you'll have to split it."
After polite goodbys are given by a few of the party members, you all file outside. The sun is slowly creeping towards the horizon, dyeing the lazy clouds with a hint of orange. Looks like you'll have a few hours before dark. Luckily, Rowarin knows this town and is able to lead the party directly to the smithy.
As you approach you hear a loud hiss and a plume of steam floats skyward. The smithy seems to have been built onto the side of a mid-sized building. Inside, a muscular half-orc pulls what looks like an axe blade from a bucket of water and sets it on his workbench. Setting down the long tongs he used to grasp the half-finished blade, he wipes some sweat from his brow. Then he notices the group, and greets you with a tired wave. "Uh, hullo. Do you need something?"
“Hello good sir, my name is Kulogall and these are my friends (gaze lingers for a second on Rixi when he says this, pointing to all with an open hand and a hint of a smile), we have come here from the Mayor’s house, we are here to investigate the disappearances. He said that you were the closest thing to a witness, do you have anything that could help us, can you recall what you have observed, it would be ever so helpful…please, we would like to hear what you know.” Kulogall stands with his hands on his hips, a broad grin on his face.

As Rixi leaves before everyone else, he takes a moment to catch his breath, before flinching with a jolt. Great... another 'sworn enemy' trying to talk to him... But... she seems rather hesitant. Does she not have confidence that he can do it? Are all aquatic craetures like this or is it just him? He can't tell. Either way, he has no ideas how respond. At least, for the first few minutes after leaving the mayor's office that's for sure. Taking the time to compose himself before he start walking off, he takes an unnoticeable breath, focusing on one line that he saw in a particular movie, said by the famous 'Neo Anderson' in the Matrix Revolutions when he was asked if he would fail: "We won't."
He then trudges on without even turning his head let alone bat a molten, pupil-less eyelid at the sea elf when...
“You’re right Rixi, we won’t fail!” He shoots the fire genasi a big grin, letting out a small chuckle to diminish the tension in the room. “So Yarrow it is, let’s press on, shall we? *Heart attack #2* NANI DESU KA?! (何 です か?!, WHAT?!) Rixi screams in his thoughts as his silky black hair suddenly ignite at the tips and the edges of one of his glaive blades. The last thing he needed on this vengeance quest was a rough clap on the shoulder at the worst possible time, especially when... another one of his 'sworn enemies' is adding fuel to his fire. "Uh... um... y-y-yeah... you're right. We'll see the mission through... I guess." Rixian replies with a really awkward sounding tone coupled with an equally awkward laugh. Deep inside he's constantly forcing himself not to unleash his pent-up anger on the four people that could easily set him off. He needs to remind himself of Rowarin and Leeta, the only other ones that are not his sworn enemies, in order to keep himself in check. And... monsters. He needs to start fighting them to vent off some steam, even if it means that he can't actually kill them due to his oath's curse...
But eventually, once Rixi arrives, he stands on the far right away from the others but just behind Kulogall and Rowaring if they're leading. He shifts his glaive behind his back too; As a leftie, the top blade leans towards his left shoulder; Vice-versa for the bottom blade, which tilts downwards to the right facing the ground.
“Hello good sir, my name is Kulogall and these are my friends (gaze lingers for a second on Rixi when he says this, pointing to all with an open hand and a hint of a smile)
"What? Nan deshou? (なんでしょう, What do you want?)" Rixi growls with a low, almost inaudible voice when feels an uncomfortable sensation through Kulogall's split second stare. But then he politely bows to the half-orc as a sign of respect.

When Leeta sees Rixian's hair ignite she freezes, eyes open wide and mouth agape:
- Cooooooool! Does that actually burn? - she says as she approaches a finger. Of course she has to jump because she wouldn't reach otherwise - OUCHIE! It does! Hahaha. Cool!
She then stands quiet listening to what the half-orc has to say, her burnt finger stuck in her mouth to ease the pain.
Mizu gives the Mayor a small bow before heading out with the others. He watches the odd exchange between Mina, Kulogall, and Rixian with a blank expression. ...The fire genasi sure did act strangely when approached by... does it have something to do with the fact that Mina, Kulogall, and himself are of races relating to water? The thought caused him to tilt his head, but he ultimately pushes it aside when they approach the smithy. Either Rixian will get over his... would this be some sort of racism? Or... would it just be hydrophobia? Whatever, he'll have to figure it out himself.
He raises an eyebrow when Leeta jumps up to touch Rixian's burning hair. Doesn't she know that such an action could come across as rude? His mine flits back to the Dragonborn ruffling his own hair, which effectively dampens his mood a little.
When they finally reach the smithy, he listens quietly as Kulogall makes his inquiry. Then he adds, "We know you've probably been bothered by... others seeking answers. And you are likely tired of reliving the tragedy. Yet we have few options currently, so please, whatever information you can give us would be invaluable." His voice is as quiet as ever, and he looks up at the half orc with cool expectation.
Mina looks at Rixian as he finally responds to what she can only assume her comments from when they left the mayors house. She decides to leave it be, but finds the fire genasi very interesting, and she wonders why he holds himself so stiffly. She wonders what he would be like in an actual conflict, is he dexterous at all?
As they arrive at the smithy Kulogall and Mizu start the inquiry, Mina stands back a bit and watches the exchange, feeling bad for the situation, but keeping an eye on things as well.
At the mention of Rayla, Rowarin's mind trails off. 'Perhaps I should pay her a visit, tomorrow maybe. Poor luck and all' Rowarin thinks to himself.
With leaving the house, Rowarin strides towards the smithy's, seeing the sun beginning to touch the horizon he quickens his pace, glancing back to make sure they are following. Not long after arriving, Kulogall begins speaking with Yarrow. Not recognizing him, he strolls through the shop. Rowarin remembers what Bill said back at the inn, 'William was taken whilst packing up his shop 2 weeks prior. Perhaps there are clues.'
Rowarin starts to look for obvious signs of struggle, or anything that may seem out of place.
Yarrow nods as Kalugall explains why the group had come, and pulls off his thick leather gloves. "I figured as much,"He says tossing the gloves on the table then motions for the group to come inside. He inclines his head in an awkward half bow to Rixi when he bows to him, and nods to each of the others as they file forward. "My name is Yarrow, but I'm sure ya'll already know that seein your resonin for bein here. I can show you around."
Mina doesn't notice anything off when everyone offers their greetings.
The smithy is relatively small, and is attached to the back of William’s house. The front wall is one large door that opens by a hinge attached to the roof. It can be propped open to create a canopy. To the left is a stash of various tools, and even a few weapons. Some in need of repair, others clearly brand new. To the right is the forge along various other stationary smithing tools. In the center is a small work table, and at the back is one large cabinet sitting to the left of a door that leads into the house. The cabinet contains various tools like rasps and such, along with some finished products that are to small to be hung on a rack. That corner is the darkest section of the room.
"It happened right as I was goin home. I hadn't gotten far when I realized I'd left my hat so I came back to get it. I couldn't have been gone for more than ten minutes, but when I'd got back, It looked like some sort o fight had happened." Rowarin doesn't need the half-orc to point out the jagged scrapes on the stone floor. "Tools had been thrown all over and the furnace was still on, but I couldn’t find even a drop of blood from William or his attacker. Which is strange, because I could have sworn the area smelled blood and...well I know this sounds weird, but it smelled like some sort of floral perfume." He rubs the back of his neck, clearly he doesn't like thinking about the subject, but he seems like he wants to help. "Look around as much as you want. I'll try to answer any questions, you might have."
As Rowarin continues looking around the smithy, he walks to the back of the room where the large cabinet next to the door sits. The lighting is bad over there, but with his darkvision he'd seen what looks like cracks running along the base of the wall, which makes up the foundation of the missing half-elf's home. These cracks run behind the cabinet.
Leeta is deeply interested in what Yarrow has said about smelling blood and floral perfume, but not finding any trace of blood at all. How is that possible? If there was a fight, there had to be some amount of blood spillt, right? Perhaps Yarrow had missed a spot? She looked around, beginning with the tools, and continuing with the weapons. There had to be something!
Regarding the floral perfume, she asked:
- And you had never smelled such floral perfume before, I presume? Can you tell us something more about that smell? For example: was it sweet, like roses? Or perhaps more fresh, like jasmin? Is there anything or anyone in this town that could remind you of that smell? Just in case it helps with identifying it more easily.

Rixi was also about to investigate the entire place alongside the others, but then he overhears the half-orc talking about a person named William. So that must be the victim huh? And... no drop of blood. Was it poison? A corrosive liquid perhaps? Some kind of drug used to mess with his nervous system? There could be so many possibilities as to why the killer didn't dare to use a weapon to evade suspicion. He needs to delve into this more. "Hmm... so... If I recall... in that ten minutes or less when you weren't at that shack..." Rixi mumbles but then he turns back to the half-orc so that he doesn't appear disrespectful, before raising his voice to make himself clear and concise. "I mean... you said someone attacked this... Will-e-am... sorry I'm not a pronouncing foreign names but... the whole idea is... someone came to your shack and killed one of your... buddies... am I right? And he didn't use a physical weapon or something since you said there wasn't a drop of blood present. Either that or the guy who attacked must have cleaned up the evidence before your unexpected return. Is that what you're trying to relay to us?" Rixi clarifies before he glances at the scrapes present on the floor. (Investigation: 16)"The thing is... how did these scrapes end up here then? And you also said you smelt perfume, is that right? I hope I'm getting your scenario correct at least."This is more confusing than he thought it would be. If there was no drop of blood detected yet there were scrapes on what was supposed to be strong, untouchable concrete. To have something strong enough to cut through material as tough as stone yet brutally efficient to leave a scent and fell a person without gashing his entire body, to him it doesn't make sense yet. "Also, when you returned, did you happen to find any silhouette or shadow lurking in whatever dim lights you had on before they disappeared? And... is the victim's body still around somewhere or did you get rid of him?"

Mizu listens carefully, nodding along with Let's questions. It would be useful to know if Yarrow has ever smelled that perfume anywhere else, or at least something similar. Then at least that would give them some sort of lead. Then there is the fact that there was no blood anywhere, and the only evidence is the scratches on the floor and the scent in the air.
"How long did it take for the smell to dissipate?" he asks quietly, unsure of how useful the answer might be but wanting to ask anyways. As he does so, he moves to examine the scratches, waiting as Rixian also asks questions. Whatever the answers were, there was definitely the feel of fell magic about this. If only he knew a magic detection spell... perhaps... "Rowarin, can you detect magic? I do not know the spell to do so." He doesn't know if the wizard has access to that spell either, but he figured he might as well ask.
In the meantime, he will investigate as much as he can without magic.

He also takes some experimental sniffs to see if the scent of blood or perfume is still present, and feels along the scratches in an attempt to identify the type of weapon used.

Mina is clearly confused by the entire situation. She's glad Leeta and Rixi were asking some good questions as she was unsure what to even say. How was this even possible? 10 minutes? That can't be the case, he must be mistaken. And yet to have smelled blood, but there is none present... she doesn't get it.
Unsure of what else to do, she starts looking around for clues like the others.

He sighs, "I have no idea. Some of the villagers speculate that there's some sort of curse on the town."
A smart move..." He crosses his arms, once more tilting his head in though, "Hmm... well, perhaps we can arrange a meeting with him later, after we speak to this...
Leeta meditates and answers Mizu:

As they start leaving the mayor's house, Mina does not say anything but notices Rixi swearing that they won't fail.
We may be back to discuss what we find Speaking of “the money to pay us”, how much reward are you offering? Just want to be clear….” Kulogall waits for the mayor to reply, then says “Let’s all keep together for now. On to Yarrow…” He claps Rixi on the shoulder and gives an odd laugh, then walks out with Mina, heading that way, a bounce to his long stride.

A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
"What?

"I figured as much," He says tossing the gloves on the table then motions for the group to come inside.

(Investigation: 16) "The thing is... how did these scrapes end up here then? And you also said you smelt perfume, is that right? I hope I'm getting your scenario correct at least." This is more confusing than he thought it would be.

Outside, Soma is still flying around the area. She stays within range to communicate with Mizu, but is keeping an eye out for anything suspicious... as well as the red haired half-elf girl.
