While Lulu took off in pursuit through the skies, I ventured forth on foot while cursing up to the high heavens. First she slipped through my fingers and then she resisted my spell? Either this girl was something else or I was getting as rusty as a seaside doorknob. I was only a few steps in when someone shouted something about shadows on the roofs. How in the Nine Hells did I miss those? Maybe I was rusty.
Well, no time like the present to get back into it. With one eye on the girl and the other on the shadows I jolted along the others. I kept my hand and a little spell up my sleeve just in case.
If one of the shadows would move to attack someone, Kalgren will cast Sanctuary on that person, prioritizing the girl.
Sensing danger, the entire party makes a mad dash after the dirty half-elf girl. She's had a bit of a head start, and she easily keeps ahead of you as she weaves her way deeper into the abandoned area of town. However, her head start wasn't enough to cause you all to lose her, especially not with Lulu's eyes in the sky.
None of you catch any more glances of the shadowy figures, even Lulu can't seem to spot them. However, you are all certain that they are still out there somewhere, waiting for a chance to strike.
Eventually, after turning a sharp corner and thinking she can slip away, the girl disappears into one of the abandoned buildings. At least, it looks abandoned aside from the flickering lights in the broken windows...

omen would stop in front of the building, taking his hat from his head and holding it against his leg as he caught his breath. With his chest heaving up and down, he would scan the rooftops for movement before focusing upon the abandoned house. "I know what I saw... I saw those two creatures..... We need to find that girl." he would say between gasping breaths.
Perception check looking to see if he can spot the creatures or any shadows move in the windows of the abandoned house! 23
Amery stops short of the abandoned house breathing heavily "We should do a perimeter sear.... Damn it Kit hold your horses" but seeing Kit dash in he grumbles a bit about fools not looking before leaping. He chases after Kit into the abandoned house with his hand of the hilt on his dagger. Keeping his eyes peeled for the girl or other dangers.
I skidded to a stop right next to the bird. 'I need to hit the gymnasium.'Wind rushed in and out of me like a personal portal to the Plane of Air.
I had barely a moment to register that Kit had run headlong into what was obviously a dangerous situation. 'No respect for protocol.'
I gestured Omen. 'Guess we got to be the smart ones here.'I grabbed hold of my magical implements. 'I watch your back, you watch mine.' I nodded at the entrance. 'Let's go.'
Lulu, we're going in. Stay close but out of sight. You're the ace up my sleeve.
Speaking of, you still owe me from our last card game.
I know you cheated. I just need to figure out how.
Omen would nod, and if he didn't see any threats or movement from the outside, he would follow behind his companion. "Lead the way." He would reply as he moved into the building.
Omen skids to a stop in front of the abandoned house and scans the area. Seeing nothing, he focuses on the windows. Yes, there's something in there. He sees two...no three figures move within the house. They appear to have moved towards the ceiling.
Before he can give warning, Kit dashes past him followed closely by Amery. As soon as they enter the dilapidated building, they are bombarded with sticks and rocks. “Hey you! This is OUR house! And it is private property!Stop trespassing!” Looking to the source, you see the red-haired girl along with three other dirty children standing amongst the rafters and the loft. They continue throwing things at the two grown-ups. "Help? Yeah right! You grown-ups never believe anything I say! There's NO way I'm going back to that inn. I'm not about to be roped to that annoying hafling lady!" She's cut off when the rest of the party enters the house. "UGH!"The girl yells, "Why are you all following me!? Just leave us alone!" More sticks and rocks rain down from the rafters, pelting the party. The room has been lit with torches along the walls, so the place is relatively bright. While it illuminates the inside of the abandoned building, it makes seeing out a bit difficult. While he can't see any dangers outside, Amery examines the building's interior. It looks like this kids have made this place their base of sorts. Up in the loft, he can make out some blankets on top of what looks like the remainder of some mattresses. He can also see some bundles of what is likely food stashed in one of the side rooms.
With a snap of her fingers, a shower of harmless sparks appears in the rafters 10' from Kit (and as close to the center of the children as her position allows within that range).
"Then don't go to the inn," Kit growls in Common, her concern for the children rapidly turning to anger and frustration. "At this point I could care less, but we've gone to great lengths to listen to you so, if you'd like some grown ups to actually take you seriously, stop throwing things!"
"Yeah! knock it off you kids! We arnt here to hurt you.. or Arrest you! We saw what you did little red haired girl. We just want to talk." Omen would shout as he used his hat to deflect any of the incoming projectiles.
Amery does his best to shield himself with his arms. He raises his voice and says "I came here to warn you not to drag you off to the Inn. Now settle down and let's talk about it."
When sparkles start falling on the four kids, the red head scrunches her face and starts trying to wave them away. However one of them, a small halfling girl who only looks to be around six or seven stops throwing things and instead just stares at the sparkles. "GAH!"The half-elf girl exclaims, "Why'd you do that! Daisy get a grip! We are supposed to be defending our home!" She glares at the halfling child who has started to try to grab the pretty sparkles. The other two children, both human one a boy of around 11 and a girl of around the same age simply steel themselves and keep chucking things.
When Kit growls at them, followed by Omen's claim the girl puts a hand out to signal the others to stop their assault. Seems she's the leader of the sorry band of orphans. She ignores Kit for now and focuses on the birdman, "Oh yeah? And what did you see me do? I'll have you know I haven't taken anything today." She sticks her chin in the air defiantly. She glances at Amery when he speaks up. "So you all just want to talk huh? You chased me all the way here just to warn me? Like I believe that!" She pauses as the boy leans over whispering loudly, "Twig...do you know these people? I've never seen them before--"Twig rounds on him, "That's cause they aren't from here dummy!"Then she looks back down at the party fixing them with her big green eyes, "Fine, give me your warning then get lost."
"We saw two creatures follow you after you tried to rob the man in the street!" Omen would shout. "They were up on the rooftops.. two shadowy creatures almost like dogs or wolves." He would add as he looked around the room... trying to determine if any of the kids react as though they are familiar with the creatures.
Thar puts his glaive down and takes a couple of steps back knowing that he could be meanencing but he remains close enough to hear and be heard.
"I was from here Twig" says the bugbear "At least for some years. And my parents still lived here until recently. You sure remember them... you know... big flurry couple with big pointy ears.." he describe himself as if he wasn't the same trying to make some fun for the kids to relax

I eyed the girl up and down. 'I am from here, actually.' I held my hand level to gauge her height. 'But judging from your stature, I left before you were born.' I looked around the building. 'It never was much but this town really has gone to shit. When did that start?'

"My companions speak the truth, and I would heed his warnings. Something sinister has its eyes on you. Now I don't want to just call you girl, so can you tell me your name? I am Amery Waylen" says Amery as triesto stand in a more casual approachable manner with his hands clear of his dagger hilt.
The girl cocks her head at Thar then sticks her pinky in her ear squinting at him, "Oh yeah. I remember those two they were nice, but I haven't seen them in a while."She smiles wryly at Kalgren, "Did I? To bad you can't prove anything. HAHA! Not to mention there ain't no lawmen left here." She sticks her tongue out at him. "This town's always been crap. Now it's just a different kind of crap since all the nice people are gone. But then again, that's my opinion and I'm just a poor dirty orphan, who knows little about the world." She makes an extremely innocent face.
Then her eyes widen at Omen's words and her head snaps around to look at him....as do all three of the other children, "Wait...so you're saying you can see them?!" She glances at the other children then jumps down from the rafters, sliding down a support beam to lighten her fall before landing in front of Amery. "Oh I know he's saying the truth old man, no need to persuade me. Anyone with eyes can see those weird plant dogs." She sticks her finger back in her ear and the other three kids nod in unison. "We've been hiding from those things for a while, I even tried telling that annoying halfing at the inn about them...and some of the other nice people, but they always just pat me on the head and basically call me stupid." She changes her voice, "Silly girl, your eye's must be playing tricks on you. There's definitely a murderer on the loose and i bet it's so and so. Why don't you stay at the inn, it's much safer there." She spits on the floor while scowling, "Safer my butt. They are all so dumb." Then she looks back at Amery, "Oh, I'm Twig." Then she points at the three still in the rafters, "That's Charlie, Sara, and Daisy."Then she points at the group again, "You still aren't welcome here though! I still don't trust you! But you are clearly not as dumb as the rest of the adults, so I will tell you a secret!" She pauses for dramatic affect, "We found out that if you just keep a fire burning all night, those plant dogs will leave you alone! See all these torches? They keep us safe! So you do not need to protect us!" The other children nod proudly along with Twig's words as if she just said the most brilliant thing ever thought of.
