A small smirk would spread across Omen's face as the child seemingly complements him... even if it is a backhanded compliment. "Yes I saw them... ButI didn't get a chance to see them very clearly however.... Are you saying that the dogs are made out of plants?" He would ask as his head tilts slightly to the side. "We did first encounter them near the old fairy house... That place was crawling with some dangerous looking roses that seemed to die in the sunlight." The kenku would add. "The vines seemed to move and grow at an unnatural rate once darkness fell. We had setup camp and I spotted the creatures watching us from the darkness. We followed them into town and watched them follow you from the rooftops after you... attempted evening activities.." Omen would say with a grin. "If you're going to try to rob someone... you need to be more mindful of your mark and of your surroundings little one.." He would continue with a grin and a wink. After a moment he would stand up a little straighter and clear his throat. "Not that it is OK to rob people that is. It's bad and against the law after all...."
"What else can you tell us about the creatures? When did they first arrive in town? Did the nice people in town leave or did they disappear?" Omen would ask in rapid succession as he listened intently... carefully taking in any important information.
The big bugbear sits in the floor as the others speak. Still not entirely confident that the creatures had been gone he keeps an eye an ear on the surroundings just in case.
"Normally I like kids but, for these brats, I'll make an exception," she mutters under her breath to him.
A casual observer might struggle to tell what's been more badly bruised by the sticks and stones, the Half-Elf's face and arms or her ego. To Thar, it's definitely her ego.
"If you're going to try to rob someone... you need to be more mindful of your mark and of your surroundings little one.." He would continue with a grin and a wink. After a moment he would stand up a little straighter and clear his throat. "Not that it is OK to rob people that is. It's bad and against the law after all...."
'Good to know we are on the same page.'I gave the bird a side glance. 'Town's bad enough as it is.'
I joined in on the questioning. 'So, plant dogs. I'm going to need you to tell us everything you know or can think of, miss Twig.' I pulled out a small notepad and pencil. 'Anything at all.'
"Yeah. I said Plant Dog's didn't I? Of course they're made of plants. Plus they have heads that look like big toothy flowers!" She gives the kenku a flat look, "The fairy's house? Oh we don't go that close to the forest but that makes sense. Those weird plants start popping up in some places in town too mostly on the outskirts though, and I've never seen flowers on them except at night."She spits again, "And all the stupid adults don't even seem to notice. At least they seem smart enough to stay inside at night."
She grins wryly at Omen, "Chasing me again? Heh, they'll never catch me, and neither will any lawman."She gives Kalgren a wry look as well, then scoffs, "I know this town like the back of my hand! And I'll have you know, if you really were a stupid noble walking around at night that fake purse would have been mine!"She clears her throat, probably just realizing that Omen may have meant she should have caught on to the illusion sooner. Then she continues in an innocent tone, "I only steal to feed myself and these other poor children. Besides, most of the stuff I take was left by the people who left town....Like this house!"She raises her arms, and grins.
She seems to be unaware of Kit and Thar's whispers as she continues, "Oh? You want ME to teach you about the plant dogs? And the start of the disappearances? Heh. Ok then."She leans on the beam she'd slid down, pointedly not sitting down. "I can't say for sure when the first person vanished, I'm not super social after all." She grins. "But I can say as soon as that dark elf guy showed up things got weirder. I didn't notice the plant dogs until he came."She scowls, "I don't like that man. He tried to make me stay at the inn too. Plus he's just plain mean, so I try to avoid him as much as I can." She glares at Kit, then goes back to talking to Omen and Kalgren. "As for the dogs, well, from what we've noticed they like to travel in packs. Even if you can't see them, there's probably at least three out there. They also only seem to chase Telron and I--"She cuts off standing strait up, and spins to look up at the other three children. The youngest of which has fallen asleep. "Telron's back right?!"
The two humans look at each other wide eyed, then shake their heads.
"WHAT!!! WHY DIDN'T YOU SAY ANYTHING TO ME!!!"
"W-we thought he'd be back right behind you! He went out with you didn't he?"
Twig grasps her head trembling. "This is bad. Why isn't he back yet?" Shaking herself she dashes across the room and hops through the window. "I have to find him before the plant dogs do! The rest of you stay here! And keep those torches lit!" Then she points through the window at the party. "Don't try to stop me!" Her voice cracks with panic, then she darts off into the darkness.
Amery also gives chase after Twig "Damn it what is it with everyone being impatient." he curses under his breath as he makes sure to keep her in his sight, so he does not get lost and to come to her aid if those dogs come back.
Kalgren scribbled down everything Twig was saying. 'Plant dogs... No one else notices them... Dark elf guy...'
He put the notepad back into his pocket. 'Sounds like a lot of what you're saying ties back to this inn. Got a weird vibe from it myself. Perhaps I ought to check it out a second time.'
He was taken by surprise when the girl suddenly bolted forwards. As by instinct Kalgren twisted his body to make way for her to run along. 'Kids,' he said shaking his head, 'no respect for due process.' His surprise grew upon seeing Kit, Amery and Omen run after her.
'If anyone needs me, I'm heading back to the inn!'Kalgren yelled at the three running off. 'What about you, my hairy friend?' He asked Thar.
Switching the writing style because it felt out of place with the narrative going on.
Kit, Omen and Amery all bolt after Twig leaving Kalgren and Thar in the dust. The two children who are still awake look extremely worried when the lot of you runs off, but they do not interject. Instead, the boy scoops up the younger sleeping girl and moves her away from the edge of the loft, while the other girl looks as if she's saying a prayer.
Clearly, Twig takes after her wood elf parent as she easily outpaces her three pursuers. You keep up with her for a while, but she slowly leaves you behind. Several yards ahead of you, she vanishes around a corner. Approaching the corner, you are immediately hit with a familiar sent. The sickly sweet smell of blood and roses only grows stronger when you round the corner. Looking around, you all get that sinking feeling in your gut. Twig is nowhere to be seen. Walking a short ways down, you find a small patch of thorny vines headed with a single deep red rose...
Kalgren and Thar exit the building shortly after the others. Intending to go back to the Stonedog, this takes you in a different direction from your companions. After making your way a short distance towards the town's center. You too catch a whiff of blood and roses. Continuing forward, you also find a small patch of thorns and a rose growing from the middle of the path.
At the sight of the rose Kit begins to spew a torrent of curses in Elvish while, hoping against hope, she begins to search the ground around the bush for any indication that the girl may have passed by and continued on.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Omen would draw his rapier and quickly slash the rose from the vine. "Damn! where could she have gone? I don't think she just transformed into these vines!" He would shout as he began to hack away at the vine with his rapier.
Perception check to spot her or the dog things! 14
"Damn it where did she go. What is going on with these plants." hisses Amery as he comes to a stop. He lights a torch to help him see better and he scours the area for any tracks or possible signs of where Twig got off to.
Thar kneels to insect the trail of thorns and rose
"I think we should follow this..." he suggests to Kalgren "Maybe we can prevent another dissapearence..."
Kalgren peered over Thar's shoulder. 'Blood, thorns and roses. Sounds like a cheap romance novel.'
He looked around trying to spot any more of the roses or thorns both with his normal as his magical senses. Kalgren's eyes briefly flashed with an unnatural glow. 'But you're right. Prevention should be our priority at this point.'
A small smirk would spread across Omen's face as the child seemingly complements him... even if it is a backhanded compliment. "Yes I saw them... Amery stays quiet as Omen speaks as he also wants to know more about the plant dogs and their origins.

Cocky kid. I liked her.
'I'm here now.' I replied to her comment about no lawmen being around. This town has really gone to shite.
