Crassus is going to whisper to Mirth. "Do you have any ability to make a distraction? Like maybe a spell that creates a false image or some ghost sound for them to investigate?"

This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"I do, in fact," Mirth answered. "It can actually work. Hold on..."
Mirth lowered his eyes and started whispering Thaumaturgy cantrip. Ominous whispers filled the corridor, their source moving from you towards the guards. Torchlight turned bright blue and then dimmed.
The next thing you've heard was the sound of running footsteps.
"Worked like a charm!" said tiefling smugly. "Let's get to work, I'm afraid they'll be back. With help."
Mirth took out a set of lockpicks and started working on the door.
Mirth's lockpicking roll: 17
I've given him +3 proficiency bonus and +3 his dexterity bonus. DC is 15.
You enter the study. The interior is fairly simple, consisting of the sturdy desk with several cabinets, a few chairs, and a bookshelf. There are a few portraits on the walls and a case with medals and orders. They are few, but look rather impressive.
It's already too dark outside, so the window provides no significant illumination. Mirth doest's seem to mind, but you can't make anything out in this darkness.
Violet will go to the bartender and asks him for an address where people like her might live that is in the opposite direction of where Crassus is at the moment and then will wait for Jarveys return.
In it, there are details you haven't seen before, like the papers on the liuetenants desk, Mirth is already shuffling through them.
Perception or Investigation roll, DC is 14 for either.
"That'd be here, lass. Or in the 'Undine' if you're short on gold," bartender answers. "Well, if not, you better find some, because I've worked there, and let me tell you, the bedbugs are as big as dragons in that hole."
The next hour or so is uneventful. Occasional patron strikes up a chat, but nothing interesting came up. Nor anyone took particular interest in you. The Jarvey walked down, looking rather tired and made his way to the door.
When Jarvey prepares to leave, Violet will come over. "Oh hello shining knight in armor, I was hoping you'd come around. I guess I had a glass too many and going out alone in the middle of the night is scary. Could you accompany for some time? I would feel much safer with you as no miscreant will dare to threaten me."
You decide to let Mirth work through whatever papers he might find and check for hidden cache or something of the sort. Obvious places, like behind a portrait, were empty, but you noticed the displaced tile near one of it. You reach down to remove it, but tiefling almost jumps across the tble to stop your hand.
"Are you daft? I can almost guarantee you it's boobie trapped!"
"M-hm," Jarvey looks hesitant. "I really have to go... Okay, I will accompany you to the nearest guard post or partol and let them take from there. Let's go. Where to?"
Nvm. Crassus will just wait for Mirth to finish looking for the paper and look out the window to see how high up they are in case they need to exit that way.

Oh, sry. I totally missed your part for Violet a couple of times while reading.
Violet stepping outside with Jarvis grapping his arm and letting him guide her "Well, we live in that direction" pointing nearly in the opposite direction of where Crassus went.
"Here's something. It's a vexel from a gnome bank, saying the liutenant just recieved a moderate sum of money from... his Captain. It's no proof, but it's a lead. Caress will definitely want to see it. What have you got?"
Meanwhile, you have discovered that window can be an escape route for someone with sufficiently agile. Or armored.
Mirth will investigate the displaced tile if you want, perhaps he'll be able to tell if and how it's trapped. With enough luck, he'll even be able to unlock it safely. But choosing to proceed with it may have consecuences further in.
When I say "may" I mean it, I haven't yet decided if they will.
You and Jarvey only got to make a few dozen steps in that direction as you were nearly stupefied by the cacophony inside your head. Sevel voices, all familiar, cried out different variations of "Turn away" and "Don't go there".
Liuetenant was in a hurry. His eyes wandered in search of the nearest patrol - young man was way too eager to get rid of his new aquaintance.
"If you've found something for your boss we can get out through this window over here. It's not ideal, but someone that's as agile as you are shouldn't have any issue making the jump. Or you could walk out there and hope that the guards haven't come back with some more of their friends. I personally have no opposition to jumping out the window, but I'm also well fortified."
