I admit to being ignorant as to how the spell scrolls work. I can see how corny it might be for two wizards to just copy each other's spell books every time one or the other finds a spell.
I didn't verify this, but I was under the impression that Wizards encrypted their spell books. I don't think it's as easy as find another wizard's spell book then copy all their spells as long as you have the paper and ink (the gold cost) to do so.
Actually, I don't see anything that says that there is any difficulty in copying spells out of another wizard's spellbook. One thing to consider though, Void can always use the ritual spells from his book, he doesn't need to have them prepared. While being able to have two people cast the same spell would maybe be functional in some scenarios, it might make more sense for the wizards not to prepare the ritual spells that Void has in order to have access to a greater diversity of spells. The perks of having three different spellcasters are kinda diminished when you're all preparing the same spells. But that is just my two cents haha
Yeah I found out about the scrolls disintegrating once copied. It wasn't listed in the players hand book, but in the dungeon masters guide.
Wizards get ritual casting by default, so both Dril and Void would be able to cast the same wizard list ritual spells they have recorded.
Actually, is Liafial a wizard also? I cant remember, and cant access the pdf's file right now. If he is, we could all 3, share wizard list ritual spells, when desired.
whoa whoa whoa, so we can all just copy each other's spell books as long as we can learn the spell? Like, every time we level up I learn two spells that go in my book and so does Liafial, then over the next couple days we just copy each other's spells?
I'm still wicked new to the game but that isn't something I had remotely considered if it is true.
Yeah, but you need 50gp of ink and 2 hours per spell level of the spell, to scribe them into your book.
I purchased 200gp worth of ink in Amaranth, so I can copy, 4 x level 1 ritual spells with that, or 2 x level 2 ritual spells.
This only works for ritual cast spells and when you have a ritual casting feature, or for all your spells if you are a wizard.
So Dril and Liafial can copy each others spells to their hearts content, as long as they have the time and ink.
Void can copy any spell Drill and Liafial learn, if the spell is ritual cast spell.
If you dont know about ritual casting: If the spell has the ritual casting tag (on the spell page look for the R symbol), it can be cast at its base level, without using a spell slot, by adding 10 minutes to the casting time, no daily limit.
This is why I got the Book of Ancient Secrets invocation, it allows Void to copy any ritual spell from any class list, into his book and cast them as rituals.
I will say that copying spells can not be done as part of a short or long rest, since you're essentially focusing intently to study and practice the somatic and verbal components of the spell, and also you wouldn't be able to say, have Dril copy a spell from Void's spellbook while Void copies a different spell from Dril's book.
Also I'll definitely be keeping a closer eye on what spells you have prepared each day, because again, preparing the same spells as each other could prove incredibly clever in certain situations (and I can't be mad if both Liafial and Dril wanna be shooting fireballs together) but it does detract from having more versatility as a group. Feel free to make a google doc with your list of prepared spells in the drive folder, that might be easier than uploading a new version of your sheet every time you take a long rest. Ava you can do the same thing for yours if you want.
Oh for sure, copying spells would definitely be a down time activity. like if we stopped early for the night, we might be able to do 1 x level 1 spell before the long rest starts. otherwise we would need to take even more time off from travel/combat/socializing, to be able to do the copying.
and yeah, you couldn't copy a spell from one book while the that book is being used, the book would need to stay open to the spell being copied for the full duration of the copying.
i would suggest that even having 2 people trying to copy the same spell from one book, at the same time would be a no go. the character doing the copying needs exclusive access to both books for the duration.
Hahaha the main issue was that I was barely in the house all day. Also I’ve been slacking on finishing Ava’s character sheet which has some of my own homebrew stuff. But I have all tomorrow to do all the things!
definitely! And I'll link a doc that has everyone's initiative as well so y'all can keep track. If you're low in the order, it might make sense to offer alternatives like "if target A dies before I can cast this spell, I'll target B instead"
OH SHIT I’m sorry Paradox I will absolutely add that in when I get a chance, my b. This initiative will take a bit of getting used to but I do already feel like it’s making the combat flow better and more like an irl game. Also props to Ava for getting into the swing of this combat! @ everyone make sureyou pay attentionto her posts cuz she can dish out temp hp when she heals. Also props to Clermar for that sick round of attacks.
Regarding splitting costs for a spell scroll, are the two of you aware that scribing a spell into a spell book destroys the scroll?

ok HumbleHubris86 Void can cover 170gp and Drill will need to cover the other 190gp.
also don't forget you need to purchase 50gp worth of spell scribing ink to make the copy.
let me know if that works for you.
