"Hae, excuse me? For your information, I'm a pleasure to be around."
Godrick rolls his eyes at Delvindra, turning towards Cal, addressing his question.
"Both me and Wyvern were cursed by the same witch... who just so happens to be my ex."
Godrick blushes, embarassed.
"Long story short, my former girlfriend couldn't stand both seeing and hearing me at the same time. HA. Can you imagine that!?! Not wanting to see or hear me!
But long story short, she cursed me with this ring, and whenever I make any noise, I turn invisible. I then have to re-focus in order to become visible again. It's honestly a pain.
The only think keeping me visible right now is the new lantern-thingy Wyvern has.
Speaking of Wyvern, after my ex cursed me, Wyvern, the amazing dragonborn that she is, decided to take revenge on my behalf.
When we came upon her house, and burst in, enraged, Wyvern threatened to kill my ex if she didn't lift the curse on me.
The witch refused, and as a result died. Wyvern has inherited that curse. But I'll let her elaborate on what that curse does."
"Well, let's wait to hear what Wyvern says, kids..." Duwamilly is perplexed "After all, cursing a person for eternity is neither kind, nor justifiable, nor - much less - good. Maybe this witch who cursed Godrick, when he and Wivern confronted her to demand the removal of the curse, attacked them instead... and they killed her while defending themselves".
The ex-Preceptor still raised her brown eyes at the other dragonborn, curious to hear her version of the facts...
"Oh, no. Wyvern definitely killed her. But in her defense, she did try her best to convince the witch to undo the curse. Anyway, Wyvern thought the curse would be lifted if we killed the witch... which didn't help us AT ALL!"
“Godrick didn’t force me to kill her, either. I wanted to. He’s practically my brother, I’m always looking out for him.”
“Even though he is older” she adds under her breath.

"Oh, I understand, Wyvern, honey" Duwamilly tries to imagine the anger and helplessness of that moment, when the dragonborn discovered that someone had cursed forever a person very dear to her and for whom she felt responsible... and she had believed that the witch's death would remove the curse. Killing must have seemed like the only option to her - since the witch did not let herself be convinced by any means to undo the wrong she had done. "It is a mistake that many young people make - and even less young people, for that matter... Believing that violence solves something. Violence is only a defeat for everyone. In fact, if I understand correctly, with violence you have not removed the Godrick's curse... on the contrary, you got one more curse - yours!"
"Come on, we'll solve this too!" the gnome cleric sighs "What is this curse of yours, anyway, Wyvern, honey? You, at least, don't disappear..."
“Ah well, it’s a long story.” says Wyvern. “His ex was a witch, after all. I found this staff in her collection, I thought I’d take it as loot. Turns out pretty much everything she had is cursed. I’m glad I didn’t take more of it. The curse on this staff links the creator’s soul to the current owner’s soul. So, she can speak to me in my mind. Quite annoying. But it also means…if I die, this staff will explode, freeing her soul. But also causing immense damage.”

Sir Charles (who has been listening in on this conversation from the back of the room), decides to add his two cents at this point.
"Well... the justification of this act largely depends on how you define a 'witch...'" the noble says dryly. "It could be argued that anyone who casts spells is a type of witch... what really matters is how the magic was used. Without more context regarding what this person was like and what she did, I really don't think we who didn't witness the incident can say whether the woman's death was justified or not..."
"...Though I do sympathize with her desire to make this idiot disappear,"he whispers just loudly enough for Yasmina and Delvindra to hear him.

"She literally had heads hanging from the ceiling in her shed. If that doesn't tell you what kind of 'witch' she was, I don't know what will.
YES. I regret dating her. I only found out of her 'witchhood' after I was cursed.
"So you didn't know she was a witch until she cursed you? When exactly did you find the shed full of heads? Before or after you killed her? Seems like the order is kind of important if that's your justification."
"Well, at least now we know our problems better..." Duwamilly sighs, breaking a silence that, as it continued, was making her uncomfortable "We know that it would be better to leave some victims for Cal's rod to kill... We know that if we need an invisible scout, we just have to let Godrick talk... We know that if Wyvern is in danger of dying, it is better to launch her staff far away, among the enemies..." she winks "I was joking about that, honey, of course - I will do everything to keep you alive, you like everyone else - so there will be no need for this expedient".
"Shall we go back to rest?" suggests the ex-Preceptor "It looks like we're leaving tomorrow..."
“Thank you all for honesty, I will be your blade as long as you would have me. I promise to not leave if I am in my right mind.” Cal will bow and leave to go clean up and rest.
(Sounds like things are wrapping up, so I'll go ahead and move us forward)
The remainder of the night passes uneventfully, though there is a certain tension in the air. Sleep may be a bit fitful, but you all get a Long Rest in.
As the sun rises, you are all summoned to the study again. There, two men and a woman, along with Sir Charles, are waiting for you. Presumably, the three strangers are the individuals who have answered your host's call for a daring captain. Charlie addresses all of you.
"Well my friends, these three brave souls are willing to offer their services to transport you across the Sea of Swords to... the Shaded Isle... if you still feel the need to go there, of course... anyway, all three are experienced mariners who have seen more than their fair share of danger, and I can personally assure you that any one of them would be an excellent choice to take you where you wish to go. I will allow them to introduce themselves."
(For the sake of simplicity, I'll give a brief description of each captain rather than a full dialogue; if you have specific questions for any of them before you make your selection then I'll be happy to have them answer in-character).
Captain Anderson: Retired navy officer who has developed a bit of wanderlust. Exceptional combatant and strategist, but a very strict disciplinarian with zero tolerance for insubordination or similar funny-business. Juggernaut of a ship armed to the teeth with a crew of the toughest sea dogs you're ever likely to meet.
Captain Fox: Former smuggler who has gone 'fully legitimate.' Excellent at stealth missions, deception, etc. This guy strongly believes that the best way to win a fight is to avoid it. Captain and crew alike believe in a policy of doing jobs without asking or answering any more questions than absolutely necessary. The ship is quick and maneuverable, with relatively light weaponry for those fights that cannot be avoided.
Captain Blythe: A free-spirited adventuress, drawn to the sea by her heritage as a water genasi. Her ship is both well armed and agile, though perhaps not so specialized in either area as Captain Anderson or Captain Fox's ships (respectively). By far the most lax of the three in regards to discipline and procedure.

"And you Godrick, what curses you?"
"I thought he was Wyvern's curse," Delvindra mutters under her breath.

Delvindra blanks.
"You got your curse...from a revenge killing," she asks Wyvern.
She turns to Godrick without even waiting for an answer.
"Let me get this straight. Your ex cursed you for...I'm guessing doing what you've been doing since we met you, so you had your cousin murder her?!"
"Ilmater's wounds"
"Well, let's wait to hear what Wyvern says, kids..." Duwamilly is perplexed "After all, cursing a person for eternity is neither kind, nor justifiable, nor - much less - good. I am not a furry, I am a fishie.
Delvindra looks to Yasmina and Milly, clearly perplexed by Wyvern's admission.
Godrick notices Delvindra's glance.
"What? I thought we agreed we'd be honest here. It's ok for Cal to kill robbers, but it isn't ok for Wyvern to kill a literal witch!?!"
-Archie
