Okay... so... with those absolutely ridiculous rolls...
As Yasmina and Delvindra search the ship with a fine-toothed comb, they happen upon something very out of place in the cargo hold...
One of the barrels of salted fish appears to have been subtly tampered with. And Milly's detect magic confirms that something is off about this barrel. Opening it up, you find a figurine made of black stone in the shape of a dragon... the craftsmanship is exquisite, but given its placement and the fact that it is a magical likeness of a black dragon (especially knowing that the cult who have been hunting you are trying to awaken a black dragon would-be god), you can say with a high degree of confidence that it has a sinister purpose... though you cannot say for sure exactly what that purpose might be without further examination.

Unhappy that the market got rid of individual purchases for one-off subclasses, magic items, and monsters?
“Excellent teamwork, kids!" Duwamilly compliments all, smiling and giving high fives (well... 'high' from a gnomish perspective, at least) "But I'd say 'Dump it in the Nine Hells and be done with it'. I can open a Gate to that dimension..." she suggests "...in a moment you two roll the barrel through the Gate (without even touching the figurine), I close the Gate, that's it".
"That's what I'd suggest, because I'm afraid that the figurine could become a dragon or summon one..." explains the ex-Preceptor "If that scamp Firion notices somehow that we have thrown it away, he could perhaps activate it all the same, in a desperate effort to try harming us anyway... and the dragon, from the ocean, perhaps could emerge and look for us. From the Nine Hells, however, the eventual dragon, even if successfully summoned or created, would never be able to reach us..."
The red-haired Half-Elf nods in agreement with the ex-preceptors plan. "I would prefer to know more about this magical figurine before sending it to hell though, but I suppose we have no means of finding out more about it. But think if we could somehow use it?" She says, looking at the others.
[[ OOC: No, Duwamilly has not that spell on her list... She can't Identify, sorry ]]
Duwamilly examines the object (although avoiding to handle it) and shakes her head, displeased: "You're right, kids, it would certainly be better to have an idea of the powers of this figurine, because then we could perhaps use it, if it were possible to do so without risks. But I have neither the skills nor any magical means to understand this... That's why I proposed abandoning it in Avernus, in the Nine Hells, and don't care about it anymore".
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Not an expert in the arcane in any sense, Yasmina still ponders what she can deduce from the black dragon figurine.

"Why not the lower planes?" The red-haired Half-Elf asks the Tiefling with a curious look. "Do you worry for the figurine or for the denizens down there being hurt by it?"
(Milly's Detect Magic spell might reveal a bit more about the figurine perhaps, like if it by any chance is imbued with conjuration magic for instance. :-)
[[ @ZelochtheDragon: Duwamilly will definitely invite Cal also! Feel free to act ]]
"Well, if not the Nine Hells, then Far Realm it is..." the gnome cleric shrugs "I'd prefer this thing to end up in a dangerous dimension, so that recover it will not be too easy for our 'dear' Firion".
"Why not the lower planes?" The red-haired Half-Elf asks the Tiefling with a curious look. "Do you worry for the figurine or for the denizens down there being hurt by it?"
Delvindra gives Yasmina a sharp look.
"I wouldn't underestimate what a devil might be capable of turning to its purposes. Given the chance, they can make even the most innocent things into something...dangerous. I recommend you keep that in mind."
"My divine powers are able to detect two schools of magic emanating from the figurine: transmutation and abjuration" Duwamilly explains "So maybe the figurine does not summon a dragon... but because of transmutation... I suspect it could become one!"
"Yasmina," Duwamilly seems rather worried "trying to attune to it is certainly possible, as it would be for any other magic item that allows attunement... But I strongly advise against it. Why would the spy have hidden an object there, if not to cause harm? If it were a potentially useful object, the spy himself would have kept it and used it, don't you think? I still propose to simply send it to the Far Realm... possibly without even touching it".

(Stop that! I'm curious enough about what's going on over there as it is!😆)
As Milly comes and collects her and Delvindra, Yasmina nods and agrees a search of the ship could be a good idea, quickly coming along to help out.
Investigation: 16 + Guidance: 1
Cal not being very good at searching, he stays at his post.

Delvindra, reluctant to even handle the statue, turns to the others, "What do you think? Dump it overboard and be done with it?"

Is anyone here able to cast identify? Or roll a (probably extremely high-DC) Arcana check to try and piece together what you're dealing with?

"If there was ever a group of people who should know better than to play with mysterious magic items..." Delvindra mutters to herself.
"NOT to the Nine Hells...probably not to the Abyss either...anywhere else is fine with me."
Delvindra takes a closer look at the carved dragon but avoids handling it in any way.
(Arcana, assuming disadvantage because Delvindra is unwilling to pick it up and examine it from multiple angles)
First roll (with bonus): 8

Will Cal be invited to the find?
Up to the other PCs whether anyone would have said something to Cal when they found the statue.
