Erbert goes and examines the statue, looking for any other changes that he can see. After examining a while, he will head north, the passageway ahead, then looks to the east (and to the west).
Investigation : 15. (Examining the blue glowing statue.)

A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
Nothing seems to have changed about the eagle statue.
Moving to the north, the hallway comes to a T as it did on the other side of the circular room. The left branch has a dead end. The right branch leads to another room with a dull red glow. Warmth is felt in the air from that direction.
Erbert slowly approaches the red-lit room to find a circular chamber smaller than the previous one. The ceiling domes up to 15-20' above the room. The center of the room is filled with a bubbling pool of lava. Similarly, there is an island in the pool of lava covered with gold and silver coins and a large emerald. Dissimilarly, there are no bridges across the lava to the pile of treasure.
Erbert says “I see… well hopefully we can sneak this out nice and quiet….” He again uses his mage hand to reach out from where he is to grab the emerald and bring it back to him. The instant he has it, he plans to run back down the hall and take a left.

Erbert casts his Mage Hand cantrip and grasps the emerald. Then emulates the brave Sir Robin and quickly runs away. As he turns to flee the room. He can see two misshapen humanoid forms with seeming agony on their ill-formed faces rising up and out of the lava.
One of the creatures climbs out of the lava and moves as fast as it seems it can down the hall towards Erbert. It is just behind the Mage Hand holding the emerald.
With no one to observe, Erbert has no qualms about running. He hustles as fast as he can, waddling down to the south to the prior room, the mage hand following behind him. “C’mon now, hurry, hurry! That thing… certainly looks like death to me!” He heads toward the right, the skull statue, planning to slot the gem in there. He hustles in that direction.

Erbert runs to the south, going across the bridge, hoping that water will act as a barrier. He guides the mage hand to slot the gem in the skull indentation and presses it.

“Hmm” Erbert puzzles to himself, but then he smiles and begins to move quickly again. Running to the south, he says “Xagyg…..puff puff… if I ever meet you….puff puff… I’m gonna kick you….puff puff… in the nuts….” He ends up south of the water and focuses on bringing the mage hand to the southeast. “I’m certainly earning this…. Have to say.” He has the mage hand move the emerald into the slot on the robed dwarf and he says “I think this is A Reward Earned, Not Taken!” Once he slots the gem, he presses it.

The emerald fits into the socket of the robed dwarf. Once in position there is a CLICK and the gem starts to softly glow with a green light. The runes on the statue base become backlit with the same green light.
The two illuminated statues now pulse in order:
Eagle - A REWARD
Robed Dwatf - EARNED
( pause…..)
( repeat)
The misshapen creatures continue their pursuit as the second rounds the corner from the hallway into the circular room.
Erbert moves further south, sees the creatures still in pursuit and he says “Oh!” A look of worry on his face, he was halfway hoping they would disappear like the other did. “Fine.” He points at the closest one and three darts of force energy streak toward it, striking it in the chest. He has a hand on his dagger, fearing that he might need to use it.
Magic missile : 1st for 5 points of force damage, 2nd for 4 points of force damage, and 3rd for 4 points of force damage on the creature.

A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
Erbert makes his, somewhat breathless, stand. A quick incantation and magic missiles streak from his fingers. They find their mark true and rip through the flesh of the howling, hideous creature. Ichor flies and the creature falls. It dissolves into a hissing and bubbling pool of filth.
The second creature seems unfazed as it continues to close on Erbert. Foul and bone-chilling shrieks come from its agony twisted mouth.
(( Erbert has cast Mage Armor and Magic Missile once each. Detect Magic has been cast twice as a ritual each time. That consumes his two 1st level spell slots. He took a short rest and recovered one, So, he should have one left. I reset that on the character sheet. ))
(( I have noticed that Short Rest functionality not working well. ))
Erbert is relieved when the first monstrous thing goes down, but then he sees the second one close after it. “Worked once, let me do it again!” Three bolts of energy shoot out and slam into the beast as it is approaching slowly across the room.
Magic missile : 1st bolt for 2 points of force damage, then 2nd for 5 points of force damage, then the 3rd for 3 points of damage.
If the creature falls, Erbert shakes slightly, terrified of the beasts but feeling his magical energies depleted, he says, “Well, Xagyg, I need a rest before I continue. Let me get comfy.”
He goes into the southwest corner and pulls out his bedroll, taking a long rest. As he’s about to drift off to sleep, he wonders…” Xagyg, I wonder if your first name is Yrag?….”
Erbert again calls forth magic missiles against the second creature. This one is wounded and shrieks piteously with ichor draining from the holes created by the impacts of the missiles. It continues to press on, chasing down Erbert.....
Erbert sees the monster pressing forward, he says to himself “Fine! I’ll kill you another way!” He heads south and goes around the corner to the west.
After moving there he pulls out his dagger and readies an action. As soon as the strange looking monster rounds the corner, he will step out and strike it with his dagger, hoping to finish him off.
Dagger : 19 to hit, for 4 points of piercing damage.

Erbert prepares his ambush from around the corner. Fortunately, the creature’s constant moaning and shrieks give away where it is at all times. It comes around the corner and Erbert buries his dagger into the creature’s chest, ending its miserable existence. Like the previous one, it dissolves into a hissing and bubbling pool of foulness.
(( I am assuming you will take the Long Rest now. Go ahead and proceed through that. ))
Erbert does indeed, he heads back into the room, the southwest corner and sets up his bedroll, taking a long rest. After that is done, he proceeds down the hall to the west. He does cast mage armor on himself again after he wakes up.
