Erbert awakens feeling refreshed. This place is SILENT. Only an occasional gurgling of moving water from the pool could be heard. He gathers his belongings and casts Mage Armor on himself.
The hallway turns to the right and ends after a short distance with a door. The door looks similar to the door from the initial chamber. It is closed. There is a simple handle. No lock can be seen.
Erbert enters the room to find a large rectangular chamber of excellent stone masonry like the rest of the complex. There are four chests in the room. Two on the opposite wall are closed. One each sits along the right and left wall. These are open and filled with gold and silver coins,
No magic is detected. These appear to be well made and sturdy,
First Erbert takes out his journal and makes some notes about the room, drawing the chests and making annotations. He puts this away in his pack. Then, Erbert uses his mage hand to attempt to open the chest on the left, backing away toward the door. He is curious as to what lies inside, looking for gems instead of coin.

A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
Erbert updates his journal with the contents of the room. He then focuses on the left chest. Using his Mage Hand, he easily opens the chest. Like the others, it is filled with silver and gold coins. Sitting on top of the coins is a large diamond.
Erbert reaches out to open the chest on the right. And it springs to life! It is charging towards Erbert with gnashing teeth and a large pseudopod tongue swinging in front of it.
You are ready for *something* to happen. The creature does not surprise you and you are up to act.
The creature is getting a little too close for Erbert’s comfort. He continues to back away down the hall, but this time he casts magic missile, hitting it with bolts of force.
Magic Missile : First bolt for 3 damage, second for 2 points of damage, and third bolt for 3 points of force damage.

The missiles fly from Erbert’s finger tips and stoke the beast. It lets out a UUREGGH and collapses. It slowly becomes an amorphous blob spreading out thinly in the hallway. The hallway becomes silent again.
Erbert heads back to the room with the statues, taking a short rest and using arcane recovery to regain a spell slot. He puzzle and muses over the situation and his strategy going forward. “That other one is likely one as well. We’ll see”
After the short rest he heads back down the hall again and looks at the chest with the diamond. “Fool me once…”
Fire bolt on the chest with the diamond : 10 to hit, for 8 points of fire damage.
