The young white-haired noble nods. "We could do that, perhaps it would be better making this a daylight operation and get going soon, hoping to find tracks back to the lair of the Bone Collector."He suggests, looking around to see if they could come and go this way without being spotted from the wall.
Kitaer, not approaching too close because, frankly, it seems like filth and spewage and he'd rather not get that stuck in his fur, instead tries for a bigger picture of the scene, trying to figure out the sightlines of the wall and the guards to the gates stream and the likelihood one could go back and forth without being spotted. With or without DM confirmation he figures it would be much easier to do in the cover of darkness...
"Following tracks back may be easier by light of day, going from one side of the wall to the other unseen seems much more a nighttime task to me," he notes. "Guards seem to not much care what happens in this zone... I suspect they will care more if they see us trying to leave it. Besides, I may be able to fit through the tunnel, doesn't look like I could fit through the bars though..."
Kitaer is a bit anxious to move away from the stream a bit, not wanting the guards with the crossbows to start thinking they should be proactive in their use. "Perhaps we keep walking and talk this over while not drawing attention to ourselves?"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Vesna also stays away from the water and the filth, her nose scrunching slightly at the smell. She tries to focus on looking at the tracks from a safe distance. (Nature: 11 with some guidance 1). The thought of potentially getting into the sewers almost makes her faint, but she tries not to show it.
As the group briefly stops around the bridge and inspects the metal grate that allows the water to flow into the city, a pair of crossbow wielding guards pause for a moment to look at the group before continuing on their way. Occasionally they look back in your direction but they otherwise don't say anything to you. Vesna looks over the footprints in the mud and muck near the grate and feels pretty confident that they belong to goblins or some kind of similar creature.
As the group continues to follow the wall, the stone structure continues to turn back towards the ocean. Along the way you see a few signs of life as a few figures walk through the streets. A small general store of sorts sits along the road with a simple wooden sign labeled "Simple Pleasures" hanging out front. You can see a figure moving around inside the building through the open doorway, but otherwise cannot see anything for sale from the street.
From here you are only a couple hundred yards from the crashing ocean waves and circling seagulls off in the distance.
"What do you say, perhaps find out more about those simple pleasures?" The young white-haired noble says to the others with a playful smile, looking over at the small general store.
Stasyn walks to the general store and enters unless it is locked. On the way he says "We should deal with the Bone Collector sooner rather than later. Unless you plan to head into the barred tunnel during the night"
Kitaer looks at Simple Pleasures and tries to determine two things - First if the sign looks like it is from pre or post plague to try to determine if this is still what it was or if it's something thrown together from ruins, secondly to try to tell if the movement inside is actual workers and shoppers or if it is looters? But Kitaer will follow Daryos' lead.
"The tunnel may connect us to the Bone Collector," Kitaer replies to Stasyn meanwhile. "It could well be how their minions are coming in and out of the zone. If we stake out the gate perhaps we can learn both how they get past it as well as where they go next..."
During their walk to the store, Vesna lets the others know about the potential origin of the footsteps. "The footprints seemed to be left by goblins...or something very similar in size and... print. Perhaps we can try to find a way to remove one of the bars in the tunnel, in case we need to somehow squeeze in..." the cleric lets out a soft sigh at the prospect.
"Maybe there will be something interesting in this store?"
As the group approaches the shop, Kitaer inspects the shop closely. Looking at the sign, he sees that it was once very well painted but is now quite weathered. The sign has the words "Simple pleasures" painted above the image of a mermaid sunning themselves on a rock in the ocean.
The shop looks to have existed before the pox struck Liesech, and from outside you get the impression that it once specialized in fishing equipment. A few tattered nets hang above the door to the shop and a battered row boat stands propped against the building.
Those of you that step inside struggle to see at first as your eyes adjust to the darkness. The only light inside is the result of the sunlight shining into the front door and a few dim and dirty lanterns hanging from the rafters above. The small store reeks of fish as the interior of the shop become clearer. To your left you see a counter behind a makeshift cage of sorts that separates you from the tall blonde haired woman on the other side. Her freckled face illuminates in the dim light when she takes a deep long drag on her pipe before exhaling a plume of smoke in your direction. The faint cherry smell from the smoke is a surprisingly pleasant change from the normal smell of rot, death,... and now fish. "What ya need?" The woman asks with a dry and raspy voice as she gestures around the shop. Behind her and along the counter next to her you see a few crates full or relatively fresh fish. Dried fish and a variety of mix and matched bottles of beer and ale line the all behind her. in front of you and to your right you see a few isles of miscellaneous tools, goods, and supplies. Most of the equipment looks pretty old or previously used but in working order. The shelves don't have a wide selection of goods but they appear to have most of the necessities you would expect from a general store.
ooc: roll me a perception check If you are heading inside the shop
Nesyax steps towards the woman behind the caged counter. "Hi. We're new here and just wanted to take a look. So many fish!" she says, waving her arm in the direction of crates of dried fish. "Guessing you must not catch those yourself," she adds, imagining they would not be dried had they been caught fresh here. "Have any specials?"
Kitaer walks in and peruses the goods. When the proprietress speaks up Kitaer flashes her a smile and introduces himself. "Good day! I am Kitaer and these are my friends. As noted, we're new to the region and just kind of getting our bearings, eh? Good to see some semblance of normalcy here what with such a fine store open and doing business..." All in all he attempts to be sociable but not overbearing, he spends most of his time checking out what is for sale here and checking out the prices. He does need to know where to get things that need getting...
He does inquire about the fishing, however. "I was a bit worried that such would be prohibited, everyplace near the water I have been there are guard on walls with crossbows. Is it permissible to fish then? They will give one no problems?"
Vesna follows after the rest of the team, looking around curiously as she enters the shop (perception 21 in game log). The sweet smell of cherry catches her a bit offguard, but as she recognises the scent, the cleric relaxes and sighs a bit dreamily, allowing herself to enjoy the change for a moment.

As the scent from the proprietor's pipe reaches him, the young white-haired noble smiles with some relief, moving alowly about the shop while Nesyax and Kitaer converses the freckled blonde, altough trying to discern what he can about her.
"Fisk does most the fishing and I do most the selling... Although I do join him after closing up shop" The shopkeeper says before taking another drag from her pipe. "He's there now, casting off what's left of the docks. Not much fishing competition these days... means more for us." She adds with a shrug.
When Nesyax asks about specials, the woman shakes her head. "Prices are marked on all goods... and all sales are final." The moves towards one of the crates, holding the fish. Although there are many fish inside, you get the impression that the crates are not filled with fish all the way to the bottom, that perhaps they keep the fish towards the top of the crates for display purposes. "We sell the fish by the pound, and while they may be sorted by type... the prices are the same. not a lot of picky buyers these days. If it's edible... people want it." She shoots you all a grin and leans against the counter. She is roughly 5 or 6 feet from the bars that separate you all from her. Looking her over you don't see any signs of infection on her and no scarring to indicate that she has survived the pox. you assume that the bars are to keep patrons from getting too close.
When Kitaer introduces himself, she stands up a little straighter and looks him over before giving the party another look. "New here hu... well sorry about your luck." She adds with a bit of a frown. "My name's Mel... and my husband's name is Fisk." She says without moving. "I apologize for not shaking your hand... don't want to risk catching anything... other than fish that is." She adds with a wink. When the minotaur mentions the guards, she rolls her eyes. "If you try to head out on a boat, they are going to put holes in it.... assuming they don't put holes in you first if they think you are planning on putting a boat in the water. They will use the crossbows on the crew and the ballista on the boat. Folks are able to fish from the shore and from what's left of the docks. They were mostly destroyed to prevent ships from docking here in the quarantine zone instead of the safer side of Liesech." She explains...
as Nesyax and Kitaer speak with Mel, they fail to notice the nearly twenty harpoons dangling above their heads. Daryos, Vesna, and Stasyn all spot what looks to be a simple trap positioned above their heads. The points of the harpoons are positioned in a way to skewer anyone standing in front of the counter and entrance to the shop. There is a simple rope that seems to be holding the harpoons in place that runs along the ceiling and down the back wall... leading to a simple knot roughly a foot away from the shopkeeper. You assume that if she were to untie the knot or cut the rope that the harpoons would fall and impale any would-be robbers or attackers.
"Ah, you do catch the fish you sell then!" Nesyax says when she hears that Fisk is out there fishing this very moment. She gives Mel a grin, "You sell fishing gear here?" She chuckles a bit. But then she looks more serious. "Really though, I don't think we'll be fishing." She glances over to Daryos, hoping he agrees. Or at least that she won't have to fish. "Anyhow, I'm Nesyax. good to meet you. Not sure there's anything we need right now, but I'll bet we'll be back."
"Well we used to only sell fishing gear but now we carry a bit wider selection of goods." Mel replies pointing out towards the isles of goods.
ooc: It is essentially a poorly stocked general store where you could try to find any equipment from the players handbook but you would have to roll to see of they have it.
((As I believe I noted, Kitaer does a look see around to note what the place does sell for future reference... Otherwise though, he currently has no business here.))
The young white-haired noble gives the freckled blonde proprietor a courteous nod, then discreetly bringing the team's attention to the roof. He has no need to strike up a conversation and is ready to proceed with the tour. "Yes, no immediate plans to go fishing." He simply says in agreement with Nesyax.
