Quorthon is furious at his spell not working. He competely forgets the trident in his hand and instead lhunches forward (after moving into appropriate position*) and opens his mouth. A fiery cone (15 ft) erupts from his maw, engulfing the goblins.
*DM: I am not sure exactly where the side goblins are. If its possible. I want to get more than just the three initial goblins in the range of the breath attack.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
For DM:
Cleo: 13
Sklin'oth: 12
Brazier Goblins: 11
Wall Goblins: 8
Quorthon: 6
Vokrul: 5
Sturm: 2
DM's note: Sorry, Quarthon, the other Goblins are at the top of the drawing, previously being out of your line of sight. There's not a way to get them in the same 15 ft cone.
(Quarthon unleashes his Red Breath Weapon on the 3 Goblins near the Brazier, who scramble to try to get out of harms way!)
Left Goblin: 22
Middle Goblin: 6
Right Goblin: 22
(The Goblins screams pierce the air as the Dragonborn's Breath Attack melts all 3 of their faces off in a sickening, nauseating few seconds! They slump over, their faces and bodies piles of melted goo. The Goblins near the wall look over in horror as they watch their comrades meet their grizzly death.)
(Vokrul takes out his Morningstar and rushes over to the remaining Goblin on the right, slashing with all of his might!)
Attack: 19 Damage: 8
(That Goblin takes a huge slash on his little torso, some guts hanging out of the deep cut. He looks like he's on his last legs.)
(Sturm attacks the unhurt Goblin nearest to him, rushing over with his sword... and lopping his head off in one swing! The Goblin’s head rolls a few feet away.)
Cleo, you’re up. Only one very badly hurt Goblin left.
Ok, Cleo just sent me a DM that they're out due to PC reasons. Vokrul is gone. I'll keep running for you 3 if you'd like.
(Cleo tries to take her Mace and smash the injured Goblin.)
Attack: 22 Damage: 6
(The Goblin is too hurt to offer much resistance, and Cleo manages to bash him in the head with a finishing blow.)
DMs note: I'm going to go with Passive Perceptions here, so you all get the basic layout of the room without having to roll.
(As you all get your bearings, you look around the dark room. There's the hallway behind you from where you came, the Northern wall, where there seems to be some carvings on the wall, the Southern wall that looks plain, and the Eastern wall which looks plain as well. The brazier is on a platform and is giving off some faint light.)
What do you do?
DMs note: If you want to look at something, please specify what and roll an Investigation.
As the goblins go down, Sklin'oth calms down a bit again and looks arround for clues on the best way to get to Bess.
"Goblins are not known for leaving no trace, let's find where they left her!"
Investigation roll to know the correct way to Bess is 14
Perception roll to try and understand where more goblins are (trying to listen their voices) 9
OOC: if you want, I'm actually enjoying this character the most out of the 3 (now 2, since 1 died today) I'm currently playing, but if you feel like it's not worth it... well you're the DMand we are the players, we are all here for the same thing, having fun, if you don't enjoy narrating for just us, then you may choose to terminate this.
You may also add other players in to take their places if you feel like continuing the story if this is not the end.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Quorthon looks around as well. He lets Sturm check the writing on the wall and instead checks the brazier for any kind of hidden lever or other mechanism to open a hidden passage. Also, just to be sure, he keeps an eye out for any human bones or other remnants...
Investigation: 3
Edit:
"Shall we rest, or should we press on? I'm pretty muich down to my weapons at this point, but thats also fine with me!"
DMs note: I'll be happy to keep running for you guys, you're more than halfway there. Ooh, I just got an idea...
(While the 3 of you are looking around, Cleo and Vokrul look deep into each others' eyes, and suddenly start kissing passionately! They claw at each other desperately, making all of you guys a bit uncomfortable. After a minute, they finally stop.)
"By the Gods, I love you!"
"I love you, too! Let's run away together."
"Yes! We can go get married right away!"
(The rest of you look on, puzzled.)
"What about the girl?"
"Oh, these 3 can take care of it. They're fine. Aren't you guys?"
(They don't even give you all a second to respond, as you all stand around looking astonished.)
"See? They're fine. Well, guys, nice to have met you all, we're running off to get married now. Bye!"
(Before you all can really process what has happened, Cleo and Vokrul run back up the way you came and are gone.)
O_o
(After taking a few moments to process what the hell just happened, you all decide you better just keep going.)
(Sklin'oth looks around to try to determine which would be the correct way to Bess. After a few moments, you realize that there does not seem to be a clear way out of the room other than the way you came in. You also try to really pay attention to try to determine if there are any other Goblins close by. There does not seem to be any as far as you can tell.)
(Quorthon examines the Brazier. It seems to be old, copper, and full of soot, looking to have been recently used by the Goblins to cook their food. There's not much else there.)
(Sturm starts to investigate the carvings on the wall. The carvings are pretty large and seem to depict several different scenes that show what appears to be an order of knights in several battles. In one of them, the knights are shown defeating what appears to be an army of Goblins, led by a particularly vicious looking, larger Goblin. The next carving shows the knights standing victorious over a field of dead Goblin bodies. As you see one of the other depictions, they show a huge Dragon terrorizing a village, burning homes and killing innocent villagers with vicious fire. The next mural shows the knights slaying the Dragon. The knights are all shown with matching insignia on their armor and shields.
Sturm calls you all over to share his discoveries. As the party goes along the northern wall, following and inspecting the murals, you see a large carving of a very regal-looking knight. His armor looks more intricate than the rest, making you all think he might have been the leader or founder. Underneath, the name 'Sextus Varius' is inscribed. Next to him, there is a further inscription that reads as follows:
"I pledge to serve law, protect the innocent, battle the agents of chaos, and never reveal the secrets of the Delian Order. My word is my bond, my life and honor is for the order, for this night and all nights to come."
This seems to be the extent of what is on the northern wall.)
"I've heard of magical passages that open when using magic, I once heard a story from my mother where a single thief stole from a whole band just using the words AbracadabraI'll try it here"
Putting his hand on his chest, Sklin'oth repeats the words on the wall.
"I pledge to serve law, protect the innocent, battle the agents of chaos, and never reveal the secrets of the Delian Order. My word is my bond, my life and honor is for the order, for this night and all nights to come."
Thinking again he shivers, again he had also heard of pledges being bound by magic, but he did not care, the knights seemed to be doing what was right, and he needed to do this to save Bess, or at least try.
"If I become bound by this order, let us just save Bess before it brings us into any trouble."
Quorthon watches as each cites the same pledge. He waits for something to happen, but nothing does.
"Goblins aren't much for pledges I reckon. There may yet be a clue here we are overlooking. I could use more light. Can one of you light this brazier on fire? My belly is empty at the moment." Wisps of smoke drift out of his mouth as he speaks.
He then pulls out his lute and starts singing the words on the wall, a satirical edge to his voice.
"I pledge to serve law, protect the innocent, battle the agents of chaos, and never reveal the secrets of the Delian Order. My word is my bond, my life and honor is for the order, for this night and all nights to come."
Edit: Quorthon is resting at the moment, I should have made that more clear.
DM: Bards dont get spell slots back after a short rest, just FYI. Also, I don't think any of us took any damage, so no need to heal really. I just wanted my breath weapon back, but if youre allowing more spell use, I wont complain!
Quorthon sets aside his lute and looks around. Impatience and irratibility set in. He watches the flames dance on the walls of the cavern.
Taking out his trident, he walks toward the wall with the inscription and starts poking it all around with the butt of the weapon.
Investigation: 18
Edit: Okay my mistake! Sturm did take damage so he will use his hit die I assume.
DMs note: I’m just going to give it to you guys on account of 2 out of 5 players dropping out, you’re going to need it.
(Quorthon pokes around the wall with the inscription, checking for loose stones or possibly switches. After searching fairly thoroughly, he doesn’t seem to find anything of note.)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Quorthon sighs in exasperation. He starts looking down and checks the floor for footprints to any of the walls, ones that are small and goblin shapes. Or perhaps like a childs...
"Have any of you ever heard of this Delian Order?" he says to the party as he looks.
