"That's a good place to start. Perhaps we could find out more about the second threat, the one who makes the winter. Would you like to go tonight or tomorrow? Better go soon."
”We should return today if possible, given the short time before the Vindicator has indicated he will continue his killing spree,” suggests Fuego. He adds, “What support can we receive here that might help us in the cavern—is there anything available specifically effective against fiends or fallen celestials?”

One of the military leaders clears his throat and replies. "I am the cohead of criminal gang investigations. I have heard of some magic items, such as Holy Avenger swords and the Mace of Disruption. I only know of one item you could get, and that's the Oathbreaker Talisman. It's only effective against those of the most polarized temperaments; Mostly Fiends and Celestials. But it's owned by Ryka Grimwell. He's not necessarily a bad guy, but he has a chaotic sense of freedom. He got betrayed by his gang a while back. I don't think he's doing crime right now, and he might lend you the Oathbreaker Talisman. But it will be under deceptive conditions. Probably a rigged game."
Thrudor clears his throat a little to get everyone's attention "Perhaps someone can help me make sense of things...The cave we were brought to by the Vindicator is a prison for celestials and fiends or what have you....We think he escaped the prison? Once he escaped he traveled north to kill a king then came back here captured us and brought us back to the prison he escaped from and where there are currently prisoners being kept only to let us go and come kill this king? Is that what we are thinking or have I got this confused?"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Thrudor nods "Uh huh I see...so all are dead or released but according to the runes thiese 2 are concerning no? 1 remains imprisoned (Religion Roll: 18) and then there is the added security... Who has added this security? Is Crrethil so bad that even the Vindicator not dare face them but instead left them to rot in prison? What is the purpose of going back to the cave if all are dead or released except one and there's added security....It does not make sense to Thrudor"
Phait listens to Thrudor and finds himself similarly perplexed, "You raise good points. It is indeed confusing why he would do such. For the Crrethil, I am not sure. Perhaps there are safeguard there that prohibit a fiend from releasing him. Wards or tests of heart. In which case, he could be tempting us to try rescuing the fiend. But alas, there is still the possibility that the enemy of one's enemy is one's friend, which would make the TelVin an added layer of protection trying to ensure the devil doesn't get out."
He asks the crime investigator, "How far away is Ryka by your estimates? We have a bit of a time crunch and may very well have to choose only one course of action out of all our options."
"This last one intrigues me too. Could it be that they remain imprisoned because they are a grave threat to Telvin / demogorgon and also too powerful to kill?"
"I have a feeling that the best option is to leave them imprisoned, lest we make matters worse."
Phait murmurs in agreement with Cunning, "Aye. Barring desperation, it would be counterintuitive to free a demon."
To the dwarven noble (blue-speech) he says, "If it's under conditions, perhaps there could be a renegotiation is they come upon us. A chance to make a newfound enemy into a newfound, at least temporarily, ally."
Turning to the rest of the party he asks, "So which way shall we go? Back to the cavern in hopes the TelVin left some sort of weakness behind. Or to Ryka in hopes his talisman is of good use? For my part I am in favor of returning to Witherblessed Cavern. Too much about it, especially how Thrudor put it, doesn't make sense and I feel in my gut that it holds a key to defeating this threat. But I am amenable to other courses of action should you desire."
Titus gave one of his becoming-a-habit shrugs. "I'm up for either, but my vote is for the cavern. Honestly, I just think we're bound to find there's more there than meets the eye. Whether there's a being actually held in the place, and whether we free it... I'd say we can decide that after checking the place out and looking the guy over."
”The cavern is close, and whatever other power it has, it was able to imprison demons for eons. Perhaps we can tap into that power to contain this Vindicator,” agrees Fuego, “So back to the cavern would be great unless the talisman game can be dealt with quickly before we leave.”

"I think we need to deal with the cavern first. The talisman isn't going anywhere soon, but we don't know how much longer we'll be able to get into the cavern."
"One other matter to discuss. If you still plan on heading north, we found a tunnel in the mines that provides easy passage. We believe it may also be connected to the cavern, it's connected to a lot of things. Now, would you like to eat dinner with me?"
("Fish?" *Wicked DM laughter* "I can do better than that")
"I'll let the cook explain. This is my chef, Stoth. He's not from this island, but he's the best cook I know. Stoth, do you mind telling them about their meal?" Around the table, including the party and the discussion group, are a total of 24 people. This is a large, rectangular table with 30 seat, and there are 3 tables total. All have been asked to sit only at the middle table since the other 2 are being polished. A Bugbear chef enters the room merrily. His voice sounds like a mix between a middle-aged man and a bear, "Hallo. Stoth made food. For main course, Stoth has prepared salted whale served in slices topped with dried fruit and fresh peppers. As a side, we have potato frittata, sourdough bread baked with garlic and fine cheddar, cream of mushroom stew, baked apple and cinnamon, and roast duck."
Phait is about to object to the delay. But as Fuego and Cunning speak he realizes others have exerted themselves more and settles in for the meal. As Cunning mentions fish he groans internally. Why would anyone want to eat fish? It just tastes so... so fishy! When Stoth brings out the main course he says, "Whale? I must admit I've never had that. I suppose I'll have small bit just to try it."
He looks over at Fuego the hungry genasi and after a moment, "You said it feel like you haven't eaten in ages but," he pauses in thought, "when exactly was your last meal?"
For the moment he puts off asking questions about the tunnels, enjoying the company of others before getting down to business.
Making conversation as they eat, Fuego says, “Well, I know I was trapped in that horn for many years, though I am not certain how long. Perhaps if you can tell me how long it has been since Prince Alizayd al Qahtani was crowned king of the City of Brass? That occurred just three years before my imprisonment started.”

"The prison is specifically for demons, and some devils. The vindicator killed most of the prisoners but freed some."
