"Cath..." Kaitlin begins, embarrassed, but let's him go. Shedding the past, embracing the future, mistakes are the least of her concerns. Perspective. Learning how to be and live again. She craves genuine experiences, too much, the guarded life she lived perhaps developed an impatience she must undo before she can move forward. The Purple Wyrm might just be the place to help her find the life she desires, for herself, and for her children.
A few yards away, you spot Selithar Straks slam shut a book then opens another with a start. The half-elf mumbles, looks away, then returns excitedly to the pages of the latter before resuming with the former only to reach for another tome from one of five backpacks. With his nose in a book, its your shadow he first notices. He looks up. "Hail, Baldurian." You notice his robes before you notice the tattoos on his face. The garment is magical. You'd have to be on another plane of existence not to notice. Enchantments placed upon the robe alter the environment, cooling the heat down to a pleasurable tropical climate to anyone within 5 feet.
Interesting that no one has encroached upon his personal space. Oh, of course, he's surrounded himself in a moat of backpacks. That explains it.
OOC. It's been a few days since we all gathered round this virtual Table. The campaign is moving along at a slow but steady pace. No, it's not what some of you might have expected. Perhaps it's exactly what you thought it would be. Maybe something in between. I'm opening up the thread to you, the party, for feedback. What have you liked? What have you not liked? What has worked for you? What hasn't worked for you. What could be better? What could be eliminated? What should stay the same? Every new experience teaches me how to be a better DM. And, this is how I learn. From your feedback. Let er roll.

OOC: I think it's been cool so far to see what characters there are and to interact with the NPC's. It's also cool that we're getting a chance to play with Baldur's Gate! I've never played a character in this city before. ((Even though we're not technically in it yet lol)). I do kinda wish something more cohesive would start happening, but otherwise I'm pretty happy just having Gramdal wandering around like some of the others.
OOC:. In a rpg on my computer I would have my character talk to everyone in sight. But in this gaming mode I just don't think that is what my character would do. So it's kinda hard to see a list of NPCs I can talk to and not feel compelled to go talk to every single one of them when that would not fit what my character would actually do. Overall I'm having a great time and am loving the role playing.
OOC: honestly i'm having fun, its hard to play D&D since everyone here has different work schedules, families, etc. I do enjoy playing as a character slightly out of place in this story line, and i enjoy the role playing between our characters and NPC's. Lets keep playing by ear and role play when we can.
OOC: I do enjoy the rp so far. The only challenge is knowing where to go next at times but Some of that is b/c of how busy most of us are and the feeling like we are doing the mannequin challenge sometimes. :)

OOC: I am enjoying the rp, i do agree that it does get difficult to know what to do cuz we are all on different schedules, but that is fine since were taking it slow. Also if feel like if we make post at the same time it might get lost which is understandable since theres a good amount of us.
Good, I'm glad you're all having a good time. Thanks for the feedback. It helps for me to check in with the party from time to time. And so, without further adieu...

You are fast-approaching the Wyrm’s Gate. Finally, the ending is in sight!
“Did you bring your silvers,” the rug merchant Lonz says. “Without a patriar you must pay the piece of silver tax.”
Kaiylin pats her legs. Her eyes crinkle. “No. I don’t seem to have a piece of silver to get into the city.” She snarls. “Pay to get into the city? That's barbaric!”
Lonz sympathizes. “Taxes pay for the city's upkeep, lass. Without taxes, the walls would crumble and everything from orcs to goblins would flood the streets.”
“Maybe they should,” Kaiylin scoffs, stuffing her hands into her arms. She dares not look at her children. She’s already left one village, and now she must reconsider Baldur’s Gate. Why must life be a constant string of unforgiving obstacles?
“Mama,” Sarahlle says, offering a healing hand.
“No,” Kaiylin says. She pulls away, but catches herself and quickly attempts to salvage the rejection she never should have voiced. “I’m sorry, Nali. I didn’t expect—”
“I know, mama,” Sarahlle says with a tender smile. She swings her arm around her mother’s waist, leaning close against her.
At the gate, you see a young human soldier, barely into his adult years, ask the Grumblestone Brothers to declare their business. “For the record.” He smiles warmly. “You know the drill.”
“Aye, we do at that.” Dundr explains in brief words his business with Baldur’s Gate. He’s delivering work boots. The shipment arrived separately. As he does, an older, salt and pepper-haired human soldier waves a rod topped with gems up and down the dwarf’s limbs and chest cavity, speaking a command word that activates a ruby… a command word that activates a sapphire… an emerald… diamond… garnet… citrine. “Clear.”
The dwarves switch places. Blundr explains his business in Baldur’s Gate. The gems on the end of the rod rotate on a ring, lock, then glow, screening the dwarf for stashed items, magical items, enchantments, protections, classification (aberration, undead, the like), and weight. “Clear.”
“Next!”
Blundr hands the Fist soldier his merchant's license. "We've added one since the last time we were through. His name's Arutha, lad."
Arutha Steps forward to be checked out by the guard. Curious about the rod they are using to check people he smiles and stands at rest but with the dangerous ready posture of a man who had seen a lot of combat and is always ready to protect himself. "That would be me. I am Arutha"

Norvalor turns to Cath Redaxe and whispers "Kaiylin seems to have miss understood my gesture of a helping hand" Norvalor take the puch with 5GP in it "You are going to escort her to the Purple Wyrm so please give this to her so she can get through the gate, and so she has some funds to help her get on her feet in the city. You seem like an up right man so please do take care of them." Norvalor turns away and walks back to the merchants to look for things. As he walks away he says to Cath "Please don't tell her the gold is from me she already seems to have the wrong thought about me."
Cath chuckled to himself. There was something more to this woman, yet she is surprised that you have to pay the gate tax to enter the city? An interesting puzzle to be sure. Clearly she had never traveled to a large city before.
He quietly accepts the pouch of gold from Norvalor. "I will take care of it friend." He slips the pouch out of sight.
"Fear not Kaiylin. I said I would escort you to the Purple Wyrm and while there is much that I am a not, I am a dwarf of my word." This was said as much to ease Kaiylin as to let Norvalor know he had no plans to steal the money entrusted to him. He turns to look at her. "I will pay your gate tax, and your children's also if they need to pay also. We will be in the city soon, do not worry."
When it is their turn Cath steps to the gate. He addresses Lonz.
"I am Cath Redaxe. I am a traveler along The Coast Way. I have been in the city before many times. I travel with this woman and her children and they are under my protection." He motions to Kaiylin and the children to approach with him. "I am making my way to the Purple Wyrm where I intend to stay during my time here in the city."
He allows himself to be checked by the wand and pays what is asked by the gate guards.
The younger Fist solder, Greime (GRAY-em) asks Arutha to declare his business in Baldur's Gate. "It's customary," he clarifies, in case Arutha is confused. It'll be the third time now that the same explanation is given. But, rules are rules, as inflexible and impractical and redundant as they can be some times.
The older Fist runs the detection rod down his limbs, chest cavity. "Any spell books? Wands? Rings of power? Potions? Declare everything you carry."

"Many an adventurer, John Cooper, has started a career from the Elfsong, thanks to Omaha and his coin".
"Where or who is this Elfsong?" Says John
"The Elfsong Tavern. Alan is the bar keep. He inherited it from his mother."
"Zavakk its been a pleasure, im gonna make my way over to the tavern and see this Alan" John tips his hat as a farewell
