Gramdal launches a bolt at the Flaming Fist Guard that is menacing the children
Crossbow: Attack: 18 Damage: 10
After he fires, Gramdal will try to duck behind cover again to remain hidden (using his Cunning Action)
Stealth: 22
Taking careful aim, so as not to strike Kailyin or either of her children, you wait patiently. A mere second stretches out. Your eyes see a gap wide enough to—and with a click Gramdal sends the bolt racing through the air, striking his target true, the Flaming Fist named Graegor clean in the shoulder. He's not expecting it. No one would dare fire against the police of the Lower City! He howls with surprise, and the line of people waiting to get inside Baldur's Gate scatters. But not all. Some stay behind.
Gramdal remains hidden and reloads the crossbow, should another round be necessary. He'll wait and listen to feel out the situation, but he will also scout out another hiding position he could move to.

Norvalor seeing a bolt strike one of the guards takes up a defensive stance and tries to protect Kaiylin and her children. His spear tip starts to glow with golden energy. (holding eldritch blast incase of danger). "I said there doesn't need to be bloodshed or violence. Everyone calm down!! Let us talk before more people get hurt there are innocents around for the Gods sake!"
A Fist soldier drops beside his ally, Graegor, examining the bolt stuck in his shoulder. The wounded man is moaning. He's bleeding. Soldiers scan the yard, but they have a difficult time ascertaining who shot the bolt. At the same time, another soldier calls out to Cath. "The damage is done, dwarf. What do you know of this woman? Why does she harbor disguised drow children?"
Sarahlle reaches out for Arutha. Her small hands wrap around his wrist. She is unnaturally calm despite the fear on her mother's face. "Don't leave us," Kaiylin whimpers.
Without looking away from the potential danger Arutha answers the girl with a soft whisper. "I lost my parents to war. I will protect your family the best I can little one."

Gramdal takes the opportunity of the crowd of people rushing by to move to another spot. Options are slim, but they are still options. He takes a deep breath and then tries to blend in through the people to get to another spot. Something closer, preferably, but he'll take what he can get.
The same solder who called out to Cath shouts to Norvalor. "Agreed, traveler."
And just then the ground behind the party rumbles. Thick thorny vines pull free from the earth, curling and coiling, growing quickly into a wall that rises ten feet above the ground, encircling you, Kaitlin, Sarahlle, Traever and the Flaming Fist soldiers who reported to duty today for the Baldur's Brigade.
The party catches a glimpse of the spell caster Zatarian weave his spell, separating the mass of fleeing people from the misunderstanding at the Wyrm's Gate.
OOC. Gramdal's line of sight is blocked. The rest of the party is inside the wall of thorns.
Gramdal sees something odd. Something he has only heard of but never truly seen in action before. Outside the wall of thorns, he has a different view of the rapidly unfolding events. An elf steps out of thin air, beside the wall of thorns, some ten feet away. In the confusion no one other than you noticed him. But there's more. He stepped through a gash in the world. You see a rift, and through this zipper you see a world of iridescent colors and thick tall trees. He steps completely through into this world and the zipper closes. He takes one look around and slips into the shadows under the walls of Baldur's Gate.

"Moradin's Beard!" Gramdal's eyes widen as the thorny vines burst forth from the ground, whipping and tangling around each other to form a thick wall. That's when he sees the elf figure just step out from another plane like stepping out of tavern. He can't help but follow! The Elf ducked into the shadows, but Gramdal was no stranger to using the shade. He'll step around and, stowing his crossbow, attempt to locate this elvish figure.

Gramdal will also try to utilize the shadow in order to remain hidden.
Cath holds his position trying to calm the situation. Guards are yelling at him from all directions.
Suddenly the wall of vines erupts from the ground and he stares in awe as he finds himself with the others cut off from everything and everyone else. He had seen much in his years but nothing like this.
"Kuoronath!" He calls out. "Is this your doing? Some new skills since we last met?"
The shadow of Baldur;'s Gate stretches 15 ft., providing dim lighting conditions. If Gramdal is within 5 ft. of the wall he can choose the Hide action or attempt a Stealth roll +1.

Arutha grows extremely suspicious of the vines suddenly appearing. "So you hide your actions from the view of the public. You are all much bigger cowards than I could have ever thought." He spits to the ground. Stop this now or face my steel!"

The orderly scene unravels into pandemonium.
People flee the line toward whatever refuge can be found in the Outer City.
Cath quickly raises his hands gesturing for everyone to stop. He steps in front of the soldiers his former military command and voice come out.
"Hold, hold!" He yells. "Hold on! There is no need for bloodshed at the gate! Hold!"
He hopes cooler heads prevail.
