"Ah, yes! Hello." Crispy says, nodding. "Do you have any spells that could verify the sexual preference of my friend here? He seems to be confused as he tends to gravitate to romance people of the same sex as he. I believe he is deeply troubled." She looks at priest with exaggerated expectantly.
Bennett chuckles, "Didn't you just get married to someone the same sex as yourself? Interesting..." His smiles slowly fades and he seems deep in thought.
"Yeah, I did!" Crispy agrees. "But I KNOW I like people of the same sex as me. How about you?" She folds her arms and has a sly look on her face, awaiting your retort.
Bennett looks at Crispy, "Her name was Erica. My family worked with hers a lot, as we were farmers and they were bakers. We were childhood friends, but as we grew older... so did our feelings for each other. We got engaged but..." he pauses and Crispy probably notices his eyes start to water. "... but I enlisted into the military. She didn't want me to leave and that broke her. I left for training soon after that and it wasn't until after I got out that I received a letter from back home, it stated Erica had spiraled down into a pit of depression and alcoholism after I left. They found her corpse hanging on the large oak tree on the outskirts of town where we'd go to play when we weren't doing chores." Bennett looks away from Crispy and looks at his feet, "I vowed I would never date or attempt to marry again, I don't want to pain anyone else like I pained her." He wipes his eyes and takes a quick moment to compose himself when he looks Crispy back in the eye, "Good enough?"
CHOICE A: Crispy looks at Bennett for a long while, realizing she may have hit a sore spot in him. Her face saddened, and she put a comforting hand on his shoulder, knowing, and remembering herself what love, loss, and death can be like.
"Yeah." She says, softly. "Good enough. Come on."
OR
CHOICE B: Crispy looks away and thinks for a moment, tapping her finger on her jaw. Finally, she looks back at you with a look on her face like she just discovered an amazing idea. "You know what gets MY mind off sad memories? A swift punch in the GUT!"
Are people worried? Why would they be worried? Is the Pilgrimage known to be dangerous?
Once the conversation is done, Hatt will suggest to Ashley that they head up to the second floor and look around while waiting for Father Marx to finish teaching his children.
"Oh no, it was rather sudden that it surprised people. Father Marx says that he was quite surprised too when Myra had asked to go on a pilgrimage." The priest gives a slight laugh, "And the Father was quite happy, like a doting grandparent. Even more so when the advisor offered to accompany her for part of her trip."
I see. Well, let us go and speak to the Father then. Thank you so much for your assistance; I think we can find our own way.
As Hatt is walking with Ashley, he comments: So she suddenly needs to go on a Pilgrimage, and Opsola goes with her. So was she cursed at that point? The trail seems to be leading to this mysterious tiefling who spoke to her after Niyra but just before she suddenly decided to go off. Is that too obvious? Perhaps. If Myra's decision was indeed so sudden, then others may have wondered about the reasons for it. I would like to know what conclusions they reached...
You ascend up the stairs the stairs and head to an open room where you see children listening to an elderly man upon a stool. He's telling a story about Ilmater and his hardships but leaving out the rather gruesome parts. He holds his palms out as he uses thaumatergy to show the story. The children are a bit at awe as the man's story progresses, the visuals following along with a sort of cartoonish feel to it.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Hatt watches the storytelling and patiently waits for the Father to come to an end. He attempts to get a sense of this man, how piously and carefully he is telling his story, and how he feels about the children and the fact that he is with them. Insight: 16
To Ashley, quietly enough not to disturb the room, he whispers: I used to love telling stories to my nephew and nieces. There are some beautiful ones of Chauntea creating all the different plants that grow in the fields, and teaching them their place in things - each has its own tale, you know. My favourite was How the Carrot Learned to Control His Temper. Ma used to read that to me as a babe.
Ilmater is the god of endurance. He is also known as the broken god. He's careful to avoid on how the god endures and focuses more on his kindness towards other. How he helps those oppressed or in need of aid. He avoids saying how Ilmater and his followers sacrifices themselves to aid others. He feels that it would be cruel to plant such a mindset in children and wants them to know to just be kind and compassionate towards others.
Ashley feels a little jealous of hatt. She never had that kind of childhood, growing up relatively poor and not joining the clerics of Lathandar until she joined the military.

(Ash, you do know he's talking about his family reading him stories, right?)
Once he's finished with the story, the children try to ask him some questions. Mostly the kind of, 'Is Tyr his best friend? Or is it Torm? Why is Loviatar so mean?', the old man chuckles as their teacher comes in and rounds them up. The class thanks the father for his time and they leave the library. Now the old father remains, with a few members managing the books there. He doesn't seem to notice you two.

Ashley bows politely to the priest Thank you. He wouldn't mind our inquiry, wold he? After he finishes with the children of course.

"Of course not, quite a few of our church goers has asked him where Myra has gone so he is used to calming the people's worry."

The sisters bow their head, "May Ilmater endure and you both as well." and return to their duties, heading off towards the stairs.

You pick which one.
((I'll let you pick. A 15 misses my AC of 16. So you can let Crispy open up that hard-shelled exterior OR you can embarrass Crispy. :P))

She's a *****, but that story was very sad, and there will be many more times to kick your ass, so i'll pick A this time. =P

(So do Bennett and Crispy want to question some more nuns and monks? Or adventurers? Or finally settle their differences in a fight at the arena?)
In response Ashley says to Hatt Wow, your quite deductive. I hadn't pieced all that together yet. Lets hope we get more answers than questions soon.
