The city of Cresthall, founded by the once nomadic and many, Creshans. Despite their tribal origins, their city thrives as the trade center of the continent, Asondi. A thriving hub of merchants and adventure seekers willing to sell their skills for coin, excitement, and fame. The people themselves are alive and vibrant with the buzz of trade and deceptions. A halfling happily takes a bag of gold as a body is taken away. A ship filled with numerous goods and valuables docks as they're greeted with a legion of guards. And the marketplace loud with whooping and hollering as people were scammed and cheated from their gold. And as it always is, some of these people can't operate with the especially talented individuals, namely, adventurers, mercenaries, and other like sort, good will or otherwise.
So your journey begins at the Sunken Coin tavern, a humble place with bustling men and women having their fun. A dwarf and an elf argue, an orc leans against the open doorway as she looks all over the tavern, and a human is prominently on the floor, lying in a pool of their own vomit. Ah, yes, adventuring does have it ups and downs. Yet shall you persist? Is this life for you?
I ask this of you to be sure of it, because I believe the weak hearted are not for this life style. The brave shall find their fame, the strong shall find their match, the mind will be tested, and your will shall forever be battling against that fear of death. Death is something, we cannot avoid.
Hello, this will be my first time DM on a online format. Despite my somewhat new standing to the game, my love for RPGs, story driven games, and books, helps me to write and create situation that will be interesting to players. Although I will undoubtedly make use of cliches and will try to avoid gimmicks. Please join me and my session
The city of Cresthall:
Cresthall: Coin's Rest
Aptly nicknamed the resting place for all the coin. Despite who or what takes its coins, it will always end up there. A merchant can take their coin halfway around the world and it'll come back here ready to rest for a while only to be given away again for another journey. The city is vast with many crafts guilds and mercenary companies, but all pay a tithe to the only merchant guild in the continent and to the royal family. The guild shall allow any transaction to be held and to be upheld by them. Barely any trade is made without paper proof of it and the only way to null it is to pay the terms or to die. There are other ways, but that'll require discretion that you will need to find...or be found by them.
The royal family is few, consisting of the King, the prince and the princess. Do not underestimate them, they're power lies in their political ties and that they own the whole land of Cresthall. But the only thing to worry about is that they are the ones to enforce the 3 laws here. One, theft shall be met with a fine of the item's value or you shall serve time in prison. Two, all ships in harbor must be searched before allowed to off load their cargo or passengers. And finally three, any attempt on the royal line shall be met with death. Which results in a lot of trade from other countries with the lack of rules here. The King is an old traditional human man, nearly nearing his end of his rule, which have been profitable and liked by most of the populace and even the guilds. The kingdom is in a bit of a unrest as he has yet to name a successor for his throne. As his son holds true to his father's ideals and shall help with the guilds and the kingdom, yet it isn't in the best of interest of the people. The people would prefer to the rule of the soft princess, a devout follower to Tyr, an ally of justice people would call her. Ah, but the king isn't dead yet, so this shall not be of interest of you.
The city has numerous craft guilds and mercenary companies that help move gold along. A few guilds sell wonders of equipment for the hardened adventurers, while most of them sell rather base equipment. Other guilds specialize in services for groups or for the city. For example, while one would expect numerous ship building guilds here, only one operates in this city. Another would be that there only are a few medicinal shops, rather than being varied, the shops are funded by the royal family, by the princess. As such they are always well stocked and guarded with a small group of guards. And finally for the mercenaries, while some operate by themselves or in small groups, this city holds base for some large mercenaries companies. They've shall hand people of veteran status to farmer status to people that would hire from them. All that depends on is how much gold is being spent. And as is the mercenaries, so shall there be the unsavory kind. And as far as I know, there exists an group known as the Hidden hand, rumored to be with those who have the skill and greed to take with discretion. And as I heard that the merchant guild be known to associate with, the Black Dagger, one that deals with death. The last point of interest here is the church, small and dedicated to Tyr, frequented by the princess and other devotees.

Hi there, sounds like a cool campaign. I'll add my character below. I'm in a few PbPs already, so if you need to cut people, I don't mind not making the list.
Name: Karra Morra
Age: 87
Race: Deep Gnome
Religion: Waukeen, Goddess of Trade
Class: Rogue (Mastermind) 3
Familiar (If there is one, none, leave blank):
Alignment: Lawful Neutral
Short Bio (How did you get here?): Karra Morra is one of the deep gnomes, a group who live deep underground and spend much of their time mining rare minerals and creating wonders with them. He has since become somewhat of a traveller, something quite unusual in their kind, and has made it his life's goal to seek out the best gem he can find and craft it into a most magnificent jewel. He has since found his way to the surface, and is working within a merchant guild during his free time by appraising their valuable and using their long business arms to hopefully progress his own goals.
I like your writing style and would really like to join. What races are available?
Here is my character idea:
Name: Cork
Age: 23
Race: DragonBorn
Religion: Nature
Class: Druid
Familiar (If there is one, none, leave blank): Raised by (human) druids couple Garet and Lea.
Alignment: Neutral
Short Bio (How did you get here?): Dragonborn still as an egg was found by a human couple. They mistook it for a wyvern's egg and decided to keep it and try to tame the newborn animal. Cork hatched in a small hut deep in an old forest. Small humanoid with brass skin was a big surprise for his "new" childless parents. Cork is now 23 years old. His parents taught him the basics of their druid art, provided basic equipment and send to find his own place in the world. After helping farmers with some ill animals he traveled with them to Cresthall.
Religion: ((Not sure what pantheon is being used))
Class: Paladin
Familiar (If there is one, none, leave blank):
Alignment: Chaotic Good
Short Bio (How did you get here?): Joza, like many of the Kenku, grew into the life of a vagrant and scoundrel. It landed him in irons. The Law Master, for some reason, saw fit to put Joza in a special program. He would turn this vagabond into an agent of the very law he once snubbed. So, shackled by a very special ruby adorned iron band around his ankle, Joza was thrust into the roll of Paladin to uphold the law of the land. He could not break the law with this item on him without immense suffering.
Hi, this will be my first game. :) Here's my idea for a character:
Name: Hattish Greenridge
Age: 26
Race: Stout Halfling
Religion: Chauntea
Class: Cleric (Life Domain)
Familiar (If there is one, none, leave blank):
Alignment: Lawful Good
Short Bio (How did you get here?): Hatt, his parents, brothers and sisters had been refugees for over a year, driven from their home by a great famine. When they arrived in Cresthill six months ago, they found a welcome of sorts; the thriving city had great need of labour for its industries, and settlers for its lands. But Hatt had discovered something that astonished him during the hard months on the road – he had a taste for adventure and travel. With his family now safe, dotted across the city, he goes out into the world to offer refuge and hope to those with none.
I would love to join in. I can usually post once per day. I have been DMing games for a bit, but I am ready to be a player again, haha. Here's what I have:
(Start at level three)
Name: Belzin Reedfellow
Age: 21
Race: Lightfoot Halfling
Religion: Indifferent
Class: Rogue
Familiar (If there is one, none, leave blank):
Alignment: Neutral Good
Short Bio (How did you get here?): Nobody really knows Belzin, I mean, not well at least. They do know his parents though. The Reedfellow's are esteemed in the social circles of Cresthall, his father a private jeweler for the city's most elite and his mother a respected politician. His life has been comfortable. He has come of age now though, and it is time to put off the tricks and toys of his youth and take up the family business. His father, Ander, has explained the family's trade secret; it appears that the reason the Reedfellow's jewelry is so desired, is because it is made with authentic treasures and trinkets from far off places and dark dungeons. So, Ander has given Belzin a pack of supplies, trained him as best he could and sent him on his way, only to return with treasures and trinkets to keep the family business going....
Short Bio (How did you get here?): Ashley Vendreain wasn't true cut out for Military life. She had a distaste for violence, but service was the fastest way to get out of the lower cast. Joining the Holy Order of Battlefield Medic, she hoped to see as little combat as possible. She seemed to find her calling as a medic. She lost few soldiers under her care. When her enlistment time was over, she sought her future. One night circumstances aligned for her to meet a divine being. With its help she hopes to bring her powerful healing to those who need it most.
Hello, i have a super healer/support character i would like to play if you will have me.
I'm fairly new to dnd, but storytelling and written roleplay has always been close to my heart. This campaign sounds like a lot of fun, and I'd love to try my hands at it!
Name: Aurelia Rivas
Age: 99
Race: Triton
Religion: Helm, god of protection
Class: Paladin, oath of devotion
Familiar: Her grandmother, a triton paladin just like herself - she's nearing 200 in age but refuses to lay down her weapon.
Alignment: Lawful good
Short Bio: Most coastal cities have been aided by tritons willing to help fend off the mysteries of the deep. The city of Cresthall is no different. Aurelia's ancestors quickly took up the role of protectors of the citizens and travelers alike, feeling as if it was their duty to keep them safe. Naturally Aurelia did the same. Would she have chosen this path in life, had her parents not disappeared? Maybe not. Aurelia was raised by her granmother and became a paladin just like her. The desire to protect came from the high tales she had heard of her parents. That was something she truly admired. If they had been killed, she would gladly carry their legacy with every person she shielded from harm and misfortune. If they had broken their oath and left on their own devices, she would do her utmost to prove to everyone that she wasn't like them. That was ages ago and Aurelia has put such juvenile emotions behind her. She currently walks the streets of Cresthall with purpose. Aurelia is a protector - that is what she does. While the politics above the sea's surface has always confused her and landed her in some questionable situations, she at least knows how to keep within the law. And should someone be in need of protection, she'll always be ready.
I have an investigator rogue i'm pretty good with, not to mention an interesting backstory. I post regularly, i'm a player and a DM on here with years of experience.
Name: Cora "Crispy" Perkins
Age: Mid 20s
Race: Human
Religion: Crispy is not a religious gal.
Class: Investigator Rogue
Familiar (If there is one, none, leave blank): None
Alignment: NG
Short Bio (How did you get here?): Crispy used to be a Special Forces soldier before she was terminated and exiled from the city she grew up in. This happened recently, and Cresthall seems like one city she should would find herself in, always on the run, always watching her back, not exactly knowing where to go next. She has a very dark and abusive past, and is slow to trust with a sassy attitude. She's trying to make things right in her world, where it seems everyone and everything is against her. She's not proud of her past, and she's done some terrible things, but there's always an opportunity to try and do the right thing and live a "normal" life while trying to put the pieces of her life back together.
Short Bio (How did you get here?): Bennett was born to a poor family in a small village far, far away. Always amazed by the local military he decided that one day he was going to enlist! Once he came of age he enlisted and became a formal member of the army. After serving 7 long years in the military, he decided that it was not what he thought it would be. The horrors he saw, the heinous orders he was given, became too much for him. He decided to desert, running away in the middle of the night at camp. After weeks travelling, he came across Cresthall. He, being a lover of a good drink, decided to go to the first tavern he sees and get a nice drink.
Alright, that's a pretty big group already. I'll be stopping the recruiting for now and pming the people who were selected the campaign link. Just so I could keep track of levels and health on my end. If anyone else would like to join, I'll be willing to make another campaign featuring a darker start.
I'll settle for point buy and/or array. If you want to do rolled, then most of the time what I do is, one roll for each stat and give two rerolls for any stat, but must take the new reroll. It has been pretty fun when one of my players rolled a 20 for strength on his reroll.
Hello, I'm incredibly new to D&D with a basic knowledge of rules and roleplay but nothing that still very much a novice. I have created a character and I'm looking for someone to take me on my first adventure.
And sure I'll be able to give a somewhat of a challenge and fun time for you, just post the application form filled out with your character's info and I'll add you.
"Sasha, Get this here guy out here to sober up!" The barkeep yells at the orc as she heads over and drags the man in the vomit out of the tavern. She looks to the entrance as your group enters the tavern.
"Take a seat at any vacant table, my girl will see to you when she can." The barkeep is a round heavy dwarf, with years starting to show on her face. She sighs as she heads off into the back, probably to get something to clean up the vomit.
As the dwarf leaves, a small wood elves come to meet you, slightly chuckling, "I'm not really a girl..." He says, his long auburn hair and soft features somewhat betraying what he's saying, "Anyway, you all here for some drinks or looking for some jobs?"
The tavern is large and vibrant with workers from the docks and other adventurers. You hear the bustling of workers as they complain about their boss and clanging of mugs. A few tables lie vacant near the bar, but the only one that can house a large group lies over in the corner. The long table, only reason for not being occupied, was that the vomit was over there. As for the adventurers, they make up most of the other tables and are happily drinking away their earnings or, as the dwarf gut punches the elf, arguing with each other. A few other adventurers linger around a notice board, reading the posts and taking down a few.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Belzin strolls into the tavern, he recoils at the smell of cheap beer and vomit. He thinks to himself "There has got to be another way to do this..." He assesses the crowd and decides against making small talk. Slowly walking toward the notice board, Belzin scans the room, looking for some able bodied companions, should he need assistance in his endeavors.
16 Perception to scan the room, and to look for potential companions.
Once he gets to the board he quickly reads some of the notices.
14 Perception to peek through the crowd and find an interesting post.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Aurelia purses her lips for the briefest of moments at the repulsing smell, yet almost immediately regains her composure. However disgustin it was, her desire to look composed would always override any impulse. Instead she greets the wood elf with a nod of recognition and a smile.
"I, for one, am hoping to find somewhere to lend my skills."
While she is steadily walking towards the notice board, Aurelia scans the room to see if there is someone in obvious distress in need of assistance.
6 Perception to scan the room for potential individuals in need of immediate help.
Once at the board Aurelia purposely stands a bit off to the side, waiting for those looking to grab cases offering easy money to filter out first. When there's a handful less people in front of her, Aurelia takes a good look at the content on the board.
7 Perception to find anything that'll cater to the 'protecter' in her.

17 Perception to peek through the crowd and find an interesting post.
As you scan the room for able bodied companions, most of the adventurers seem to fit that bill. Although what catches your eyes most are the somewhat newer adventurers, ones that yet to find a group. Noting the unusual kenku man clad in studded leather with shield and shortsword, a fighter of somekind perhaps. While a triton woman walks in with chainmail adorning her and a greatsword jangles on her back. She also surveys the room but not with judging eyes, but more of a motherly concern somewhat. A female human also in studded leather roams nearby, sporting two swords. Finally a human man sits at the front along with the workers, enjoying a drink and conversing with the other patrons at the bar.
When you approach the board, numerous posts have been pinned and pulled from here. Some with an official seal of some guilds, while others have seal of the guard on here. Most of the post ask for finding and/or asking for missing people. Most of the adventurers near you pay no heed to them as they point to jobs with a little bit more action. Your eyes go over the board and linger on one particular post
Help Wanted!
Mine has been overrun with goblins, looking for people to drive them out or kill them outright.
Location: Gnome's Rock, mining village down in the southwest, follow the roads.
Reward: Your choice of gems and 100 gold.
Client: Jesse Pebb, foreman.

On second thought, Hexblade sounds sick.

Familiar (If there is one, none, leave blank):
Alignment: CN

For dark campaign: Dark Dealings
I'll settle for point buy and/or array. If you want to do rolled, then most of the time what I do is, one roll for each stat and give two rerolls for any stat, but must take the new reroll. It has been pretty fun when one of my players rolled a 20 for strength on his reroll.
Testing out rolling for stats: 6, 5, 11, 13, 14, 8
Rerolling the low ones: 11, 14
Bleh. Going with standard array.
