Bennett nods and smiles at Crispy, "Oh? Now you want to talk? Interesting. You got it. Should I make myself look like something else or walk up as is? What are some important questions everyone would like for me to ask?"
"Hmph, not sure if can trust half-orcs." Karra comments. "Need to find out if on side of hobgoblins and two others. Maybe ask if come this way, say we follow tracks. Help you if go wrong." Karra holds his shortbow up. "Not preferred style, prefer making, but survival first."
I would favour a direct approach myself, say Hatt. Let's just go up to them and ask who those four extremely suspicious-looking people are, and why no-one told us about them. Perhaps how they react is more important than what they say. Were they under magical influence? Or are they hiding something? I'm happy to come up to the entrance with you, he adds to Bennett. Is 'happy' the right word? he asks himself. Well, it will have to do.
"Don't get all excited, Bennett. I'm just humoring you. But, I would like to find out those answers before I..do what I do best." Crispy says impatiently. "Come on. Let's go..talk." Coming from a background of investigation, she knew how to talk, to get answers. She just preferred a more direct approach.
Bennett bows slightly to Crispy and starts walking to the half-orcs guarding the entrance. "Why hello! My name is Bennett, this is Crispy, Aurelia, and Hatt. Your proprietor has commissioned us to clear out this mine from it's infestation. It's going swell by the way," Bennett gives them finger guns. "However, there is ONE thing that is bothering us. Who were those four people that passed by?"
3Insight to see how they react when Bennett asks the question.
The half orc who can speak in complete sentences looks at your group curiously, "Um? They said they were adventurers hunting down the goblins too. They said that they chased them here and got rid of the chieftain. They're sorry for chasing them here, didn't really expect them to try to find another home after they almost got them. Anyway the girl said they just needed to apologize to boss man before they go on their way." The half orc is saying what she knows and is not hostile to you all. The other orc stays by her side, staying quiet.
Crispy sighs, an annoying irritating sigh. “Really? Two adventuring groups to flush out goblins? Why didnt you mention this other group? Didnt it seem strange to you that TWO groups are here?”
“Come on.” Crispy says, turning to head back into town. “Something is up for sure..”
Definitely, says Hatt, half-walking, half-running in order to keep up with Crispy. I'm really confused. If the overseer was working with this other group, then why let us into the mine at all? Why not just say 'Oh, another merry band came by already and fixed the problem, sorry for bothering you, have a nice trip back to Cresthall'? Hatt feels out of his depth. This is 'intrigue', like in the stories, he thinks to himself. The ones where I can never figure whodunnit before the investigator reveals it in the last chapter. If Malla were here, she'd figure this out in no time at all; he thinks of his little sister, now working some menial job in one of the big houses in the city, her mind going to waste, and grits his teeth, looking ahead and trying to spot Overseer Pebb.
The half orc girl shrugs, "Ain't too uncommon, besides they said they're sorry for chasing the goblins here so all is good. Any way, boss man wants us to start mining again if you all are done clearing them out. And check with him for the gold." The half orc looks to the other, speaking in orcish a bit then the other shouts out, calling a few other workers as they start to enter the mine with pick axes and shovels.
The mysterious four can be seen talking with the old gnome, with the exception of the armored man not with them.
The half orc pauses for a moment before nodding, "Alright then, though we're mostly just gonna work on plugging up the holes the goblins made, that alright with you sir?" She asks as she starts to walk into the mine. (Do you just want to check the crypt area?)
(Yeah, Karra will want to go check for personal curiosity, regardless if the party wants to come with him. If you'd rather PM that bit and let the party continue back to town we can work like that.)
Crispy looks at Hatt grimly. "Exactly." She says, walking to the old gnome and the other shady people. "It stinks like month old stew, and I, for one, don't put up with bullshit."
She walks over to the old gnome and the other four.
"HEY." She yells, walking over. As she shoulders her way in the group, she sniffs the air in front of her, and pretends to sneeze really loudly. "Oh, i'm sorry." She says, as sarcastically as she can. "I'm allergic to bullshit, and i'm smelling a lot of it right here. Care to explain who the Hell you are and what are you doing in the mine?" She looks at the old gnome. "And don't go anywhere either, Shady McBullshit, i've got some questions for YOU, too."
The cloaked one dismisses the hobgoblins as Crispy pushed her way to the front. The two hobgoblins head to the house where you all saw the injured workers. They stood by the entrance. The cloaked one looks to Crispy, "We are adventurers, who were sent after the goblins. We accidently chased them out which led them here. We finished our job and just came to apologize." Jebb nods and looks to Crispy,"Sounds like I should just give the reward to them since you apparently don't want it. Who the hell raised you to go yelling at the elderly? Damn, I ain't senile yet."The old gnome calls over a half orc, muttering a few things in orcish. The half orc nods and goes off to the mine. "Damn goblins, break into a crypt into my mine. Now I gotta block that shit up before I can get my people working again."
"Shut your mouth, old man." Crispy says, giving him an annoyed look. Something was up and she was going to find out what. "You didn't say anything about ANOTHER band of adventurers doing this job. Why didn't you say anything? How many bands of adventurers does it take to clear a mine. And no, that's not the start of a joke."
She then turns to the cloaked figure. "Oh, and you're adventurers, eh? Doing the same job as us? How did you hear about this job? And who the hell goes around with hobgoblins, anyways?"
"Those ears for decoration missy? I ain't hired no other band. They the reason the goblins in the mine in the first place! Almost got them at their den but the little devils ran away." The cloaked one nods, "I'm sorry for letting them away but we had to rest due to being caught in some traps. And we're not asking for payment from the sir, just apologizing for putting his workers in jeopardy." Jebb nods happily,"Well now I don't need to pay anyone. Since this here girl don't want it and you just want to yell at me. Don't want to listen to how I didn't hire this band." The armored man emerges from the house of the injured half orcs, heading to the cloaked one's back, "And thanks for having your big fella here check on my boys. Much appreciated."
Bennett nods and smiles at Crispy, "Oh? Now you want to talk? Interesting. You got it. Should I make myself look like something else or walk up as is? What are some important questions everyone would like for me to ask?"

She gestures to the exit. "After you."
Aurelia nods her head once towards Bennett. "You've got my aid as well." She then prepares to follow them to the entrance and the half-orcs.

Karra frowns. "Think there is more to this, hmm." He then looks to the half-orc. "Should do one more check? Think one goblin maybe got away."
