In the morning, the halfling arises before the light, and dons her chain. It is a ritual for the paladin of pain, as the protective armor is also a cilice, with tiny barbs on the inside. She wears it against her bare skin, as her chosen devotion to Loviatar.
The Paladin caresses her hauberk, pressing it against herself, just enough so she feels it. These devotions also serve to keep her alert, in the wee hours of the morning, until the others arise.
"I am... glad that I can help your business," Teresa says, watching her reflection in the bowl.
Teresa had always wondered why people ventured down the treacherous path, knowing it led to the depths of ninth hell. Now, she understands. She sees the poor souls struggling to earn a few silver pieces while here, she spends their month's worth of gold on meals. The inequality and frustration weigh heavily on her mind. They are like a tsunami, she thinks, invisible yet potent, capable of sweeping people away in the wrong direction. "This... is what I have to fight, like real monsters. And there are so many things to learn..." Teresa mutters, chewing and tasting her lesson with the bread and cheese.
OOC:Teresa will take the third watch, thinking hard about what she had learned from the first day of her adventure!
As the night sky fades giving way to the sun, the rooster screaming, the occasional noise from the kitchen and neighing of the horse, all of you wake up after a good nights rest ready continue your travel.
”Wake up everyone, we must get moving if we want to reach the City before lunch. It seems that the innkeeper has breakfast ready for us.”, Nilavor called to the people in his room. He then departed towards the dining are where a long table (though really it was just 4 small tables joined together) filled with food. There was a full roast chicken, multiple baguettes, salad, wine for those who take, mashed potatoes, apple pie, cranberry pie, a pitcher of juice, a board filled with cheese, a dish filled with pasta and a large bowl filled with cut fruit.
The innkeeper smiles at Nilavor, “this is our complementary break fast for more than 5 people. We hope you enjoy, please tell us if there is anything missing or there’s anything you need.”, he went back to the front desk.

Vadania smiles at the bounty of food put before them. He nibbles at some of the repast but focuses on the fruits for the most part while wrapping bits of cheese in a cloth for later, on the road. It does not take long for the wood elf 'fill up' and as the others break fast at their leisure, the wood elf goes outside to check on the assassins, the carriage and the horses.
Teresa expresses her gratitude to the innkeeper for the delicious breakfast. She waits until the young man leaves the table, then cautiously tastes the food to check for any signs of poisoning before Nilavor touches them.
Vadania: you testingly take a small bite the fruits, juice fill your mouth with every bite, the melons taste sweet, the oranges are ripe with a slight tartness to them, the apples have a pleasant crunch as do the green grapes. You find no added substances to any of them.
The horses were a little bit snappy but that was likely due to being confined in their stables. The assassins were still asleep, seemingly placing their trust in you.
Teressa: “As much as I appreciate your actions Lady Greenhill, I would recommend eating your fill of food. You won’t be full with eating small snippets of my plate. You need energy to protect me, so eat.”, Nilavor says as he pushes a plates filled with food towards you.
When you were taking bites out of his food you didn’t sense any poison or harmful substances.
Heidi breaks her fast with cheeses and fruits, and cranberry pie, washing it all down with a breakfast stout. When finished, she bids their host a fair morning, and prepares to depart.
”Your fare and hospitality have been without fault, but we must be off.”
Unless something comes up to hamper the action, Vadania will be working with the stable groom to hitch up the horses to the carriage and move it around to the front of the tavern so everyone can load up and lash down their luggage. While the loading is going on, Vadania (and anyone else who wishes to help) will escort the assassins to the local stream behind the tavern so they can dunk and wash themselves as best they can. After all, they WERE tied up to a hitch all night without a chamber pot!
Pausing mid rise, Cyranos face contorts into a grimace. He drops his chin to his chest and his cheeks puff out with a stiffled belch. He exhales forcefully, blowing it out through pursed lips into the side of his fist. With a quick cock of his head and a satisfied grunt he continues out to assist Vadania.
He keeps an eye on the assasins as Vadania readies the transportation. In the mean time he notices a rat nosing about looking for spilled grain. Cyrano finds the twitch of its little whiskers and tiny occasional squeaks endearing. Pulling some of the his own stashed cheese from one of his many pockets and pouches he flips it mid way to the tiny creature. The little rats nose crinkles and bobs as it catches the scent of the treat. Soon it finds its quarry. Sitting on its haunches, the rodent pocks up the scrap on its tiny paws and begins to nibble. Finished, it started to sniff about for seconds, Slowly and cautiously it got closer and closer until it was eating from Cyranos palm. When the supply had run dry Cyrano rose and brushed crumbs and dust from himself. Fully expecting his new little friend to scurry off. But to his surprise the rat began to weave in and out of his legs. The action of the rat combined with the proportions of size between the two resembled a cat and a human companion.
"My apologies," Teresa says, taking the plate and blushing slightly. "I tasted the food first to ensure there were no harmful substances, Master Nilavor. By the way, last night I asked my deity for a miracle that can neutralise non-magical poisons. If you don't mind a ten-minute ritual and a slightly cold meal, I can perform it when we arrive at another inn." She says, stuffing her cheek like a little squirrel.
And so, the next leg of the journey began; sun shining, bellys full, clear skies. Vadania knew this would not last. He was surprised the two captured assassins were still alive. He thought more paid assassins would be on their trail and would either free them or kill them for their failure. And yet, here they were; bound and bouncing down the road with the rest of the group. "May the Gods continue to smile down on us this day," he muttered as he settled into his position on the carriage roof - scanning about as best he could.
Teresa: “I appreciate your sentiment, but we won’t be staying at another hotel if we make it on time.”, Nilavor states while looking at Teressa straight in the eyes. He pats her on the back and goes upstairs to his room to prepare for the journey ahead.
Fjörn: The music filled the air, the horse look up and see you playing and start to stomp their feet and humph while shaking their heads. Once the journey started the horses pace is quite speedy then before. Quickly going past the Moonwatch hills.
Vadania: You look around from the top of the carriage, at the moment you don’t see anything special. The beautiful sparkling ocean on one side and the vast plains on the other. You observe that it would be hard to for people to hide and sneak up on them.
one of you roll a d20 to see how this day goes on the road.
The journey continued, the rolling hills slowly turned into vast plains as the sun rose higher in the sky. Occasionally taking breaks to stretch your legs, quench your thirst as well as the horses’, as the midday sun beat down on your group as you moved along the dirt road. Nilavor in the carriage taking naps intermittently to try and ignore the heat. By the time you could see the walls of The City of Swords.
As your group drew closer you could see there were city guards by the gate, checking the carriages and beings passing through. “We have to be careful here, the guards must not notice me or the assassins. The Lords of Keys of the council of Melvaunt runs the army and is one of the treasurers.”, Nilavor whispered. An unasked questions hung in the air, how to get past the guards and enter the city?

What was your plan here my lord? Did you mention that smuggling you in was part of the deal? Perhaps I can smooth our entry, let me go ahead I can convince the guards our admittance is top secret and of great importance!

"Well thatjust fine by me!" Exclaims Cyrano. He promptly begins stuffing his face with bites of everything.
