Daewen will knock the G8 goblin unconscious by hitting it on the head with the pommel of her short sword.
You have subdued all the goblins in this large cave with a ramp, a stew pot over a fire, and enough cots for this to be the home of the goblins.
Sildar calls you all to come deeper into the cave, "bring those goblin bodies inside." He whispers. "There is something in here much bigger than a goblins."
With all the goblin bodies stacked into a corner, and the sleeping goblins properly bound and gagged, Sildar asks that you short rest while he tells you of his plight.
"Thank you for rescuing me. As you can see, I've bitten off more than I can chew. This was all supposed to be a simple assignment. The Lord's Alliance sent an agent here before me, over two months ago. I was curious when I found out that this agent had disappeared. So I went to Phandalin to meet the Rockseeker brothers. I've been living in Phandalin ever since. They even made me an official town protector. So boy was I surprised to find out that Gundren's secrets was worth all this fuss."
"We were done with our other business in Neverwinter, when Gundren and I were on our way back to Phandalin, ahead of you guys. Suddenly, goblins shot arrows at our horses and they were dead. I think Gundren was hurt really bad and I tried to fight them off but their numbers were too great. One of the last things I remember before being stripped and put into a sack was this Bugbear taking Gundren's map."
"It was awful, they fed me this disgusting food, kept me naked, and whenever I moved or said anything, they knocked me out. In between moments of consciousness, I heard them refer to their Bugbear leader as 'Klarg' and another thing I remember is the Bugbear ordering some goblins to, 'take the map, and the dwarf back to Black Spider' That's about all I can help with."
"I don't know what I would have done if you guys hadn't come to find me. I really owe you, if we make it all the way back to Phandalin, I'll pay you each 50 gold pieces."
Yeemik has 3 gold teeth, 3 gp Yeemik has a pouch of 15 silver, 1.5 gp 15x leather armor, 150 gp 15x shield, 150 gp 15x scimitar, 375 gp 15x shortbow, 375 gp 150x arrows, -- total 1054 gp, 5 sp/ sell back 527 gp, 2 sp, 5 cp each 87 gp, 8 sp, 7 cp (3 copper left over)
Resnalore is uninjured and has 9 goodberries he offers to the party Ryuulin has 10 hp (10/17), he also has no more healing surges left from the last short rest.
Wilhorn has ledgered the loot, but knows we have to get it back to the wagon before we can really count it as ours.
(In Yeemik’s pouch, is there 15 or 1.5 gp in addition to the 15 sp?)
”Maybe, Sildar, you could borrow a shield, scimitar and bow and arrows, if you’re feeling up for helping us clear out the rest of these caves. I’m afraid even the best leather armor from the goblins will be too small for your frame.”
Wilhorn will expend one of his hit die this short rest (in roller) for 5+2 hp.
(If anyone is going to take any of the arrows or loot, please say so, so I can adjust my ledger.)
I'm having a blast. And after this short rest, we have one more encounter, before chapter 1 ends. After chapter 1 ends, let's take a short break in the adventure, just to reorganize and discuss party makeup and strategies.
If I can't contact the missing players, I'll bench them in town. Benched character can return anytime. However, the party continue without them.
I'm also going to give everyone a one-time re-tool of their character. Meaning, you can bench your own character and bring-in something a completely new character. Or you can just tweak your existing character by retraining things like gear and class without penalty. Normally, you can only retrain spells, we are also allowing anyone to retrain into a crafting skill (Since crafting was mentioned after character creation). But in general, we want the characters to be locked-in, so this one-time re-tool can be extremely useful for party cohesion.
* Feel free to roleplay with Sildar during the short rest * We will be marching across the rope bridge to get to the last room * No surprise round * I'll post a map and you can roll initiative
(OOC: Daewen's short rest ranger hit dice roll is in the game log, resulting in 3+3 = 6 hp healed)
(OOC: Grand total XP so far is 300+312=612)
Daewen listens to Sildar's story with rapt attention, furiously taking notes in her little notebook before stuffing it back in a hidden pocket within her cloak.
Lot's of juicy stories to take back! I'll surely be rewarded immensely for this bounty of chronicles for the Raven Queen...
Once everyone is rested up from their short rest, and Sildar is kitted up, Daewen will lead the way further into the cave.
This cavern is half filled with two large pools of water. A narrow waterfall high in the eastern wall feeds the pool, which drains out the western end of the chamber to form the stream that flows out of the cave mouth below. Low fieldstone walls serve as dams holding the water in. A wide exit stands to the south, while two smaller passages lead west. The sound of the waterfall echoes through the cavern, making it difficult to hear.
Once you move deeper into the "room with pools", you will see two wolves guarding another room, and in this room...
Sacks and crates of looted provisions are piled up in the south end of this large cave. Guarding the room are two wolves, beyond you can see a small group of goblins arguing with a large bugbear.
