Yes, Valar would know them by their proper name, the Illithid, but would have also heard tales of the Mind Flayer's evils. Capturing thralls and consuming their brains.
Amiz unfortunately failed the save and is affected by madness.
He grimaces as his mind feels numb and raw at the same time. He is glad for Valar taking on the interrogation. He stands nearby with his arms crosses in part to seem intimidating and to keep his hands restrained as his displeasure at the sight of Sanford is evident.
Valar will continue with their conversation. "What have they offered you as you don't seem to be concerned about becoming a thrall. Where in the town is this portal, you must have been there several times already. Who else will we find in the town, are they there willingly, servants of these Mind Flayers, or thralls?"
Sanford nods along, "Oh you're looking for a guide into Kholias? Yes, yes, I will take you there. Drubax has many servants of course, they will give you a joyous welcome."
How would everyone feel about having Sanford guide them into Kholias.
“Valar, can I talk to you over here for a minute?”, says Thelanis, motioning to a corner far enough away from the prisoner that we would have privacy if we kept our voices down. She waits for Valar to respond before moving, also looking to make sure someone else is watching Sanford.

”Valar, are you okay? You fell to the madness once before, as did I, and right now it sounds like you’re considering letting this unstable tool of evil lead us into darkness. I just need to know you’re okay.”
Insight Check: 5 in game log.

Valar nods, "It seems with my new blessing, my mind is clear and being protected so I won't have another episode. From what I have gathered, we're dealing with mind flayers who have strong mental and psychic abilities. Thats how they create their slaves or thralls, they warp their minds. I believe that was what affected me. I am doing better, thanks for asking."
Assuming you’re at least continuing on to the Elven camp to the north, you’ll have to take Sanford there. So you can make you’re final decision once you get there.
Just as you’re about to make your final days travel to the camp you get a message through the sending stones. This time straight from the Elven Prince Lukian Eldari, “Have you made it to the camp yet? I have convinced The Scarecrow to aid us in an attack on Kholias if my mother also agrees.”
(Remember that any reminder has to be 25 words or less.)
[[ Alright with the idea of Sandford as a quasi-guide into Kholias. Obviously wary of him and would want to be on guard (odds are he'll pull something on us sooner rather than later). But willing to see how it might go after meeting up at the camp.
Will say I wasn't expecting Illithids. So this is intriguing! ]]
What did Valar want to Persuade Sanford to do? He has offered to escort you into Kholias if you wish. Although the man is clearly mad.
A description of Kholias, landmarks, key structures, who is in Kholias, where this portal is located. Trying to get a feel for the lay of the land, an understanding of what we are going to be walking into for threats so we are better prepared. Are there any mind flayers already there, or just thralls? What type of threats can we expect?
Amiz travels onward a foreboding sentinel over Sanford as he does not trust the man at all. His thoughts speak of felling the man right where he stands but Valar is his trusted companions, so he is willing to give this venture a go. His right hand never strays far from his battleaxe.
Valar - Sanford will give you a basic run down of the area around The Crater where Ish Alora fell, and where the gate now sits. He will explain there is only 1 Mind Flayer. But also many thralls, as well as creatures from beyond the gate. The city is somewhat overrun with strange beasts.

Alsen has recovered somewhat and will watch over Sanford.
Valar nods, and head over to Thelanis.
Im awaiting the outcome of this conversation.

“Alright, I’ll stay alert while you finish, but I’m not following him anywhere…” says Thelanis, releasing Valar.

Thelanis looks to the others before answering. “We’re a day out from the camp. Let us get there and see how things are.”
