You all set off again as the sun rises over the Nuerath Slopes. The dwarves are distant again, although the one you helped last night, Detear, sends you a few of those rare dwarvish smiles as you hike up and down the hills. Draíocht succeeds, once again, in finding a ration or medicine kit charge by foraging for leaves and herbs growing amongst the rocks. While Valar finds it hard to focus after the previous night's events as he keeps watch over the party.
Eventually towards the end of the day you reach a hill just before a big rise and Yuddic suddenly pulls up the mule. He turns to you all, "This is as good a place to stop as any. At this point we no longer need your company, we will continue alone. Your job now is to set up camp and await our return." He shouts a few orders to the other dwarves who sheepishly look at each other and start to pull their tents out.
Thelanis will take some time to set up her own tent, away from the dwarves. She also searches the area, looking for any signs the area is unusual or special for any reason.

Draíocht shares Valar's unease. Combined with their reaction to Amiz the night prior and it feels quite fishy. While helping to set up camp he whispers to the others, "I've got half a mind to follow them. Or at the very least ask some of the wildlife to do so on our behalf."
Amiz smiles at Yuddic. Getting paid while not needing to escort the dwarves makes this job even easier. He sets up his tent and takes to whittling to pass the time "I think that is a good idea Draiocht. Sending a small critter to spy on them will keep us in the loop. Personally, I am not curious enough to follow them."
Thelanis - There's nothing you notice that makes this place significant, apart from perhaps it is just behind the tallest hill for miles around.
Can someone roll a Perception check or the like to find an appropriate animal to ask? Noting that Speak with Animals allows you to talk to animals, not that they'll necessarily do whatever you say.
Draíocht looks around further, delving a little into the woods beyond the campsite, looking for animals while Valar checks over the defensiveness, seeking guidance from the wildlife around.
Valar - You have no luck whatsoever finding an animal for Draíocht to talk to, however, when you get to the top of the high crest nearby you see an awesome and terrible sight. Far off to the east, beyond the slopes, the last turns at first grey, and then black. As it gets almost as dark as jet, it reaches a city in the distance. Gigantic and ruined, the city is covered in a dark ichor and in the centre is a giant crater; evidence of some horrible cataclysm.
Draíocht - You have much better luck in finding animals. A small herd of goats is eating nearby, while an eagle perches on a rock just over the next hill.
Draíocht pulls out a ration from his bag and tries to coax the eagle towards him. As he makes his gestures and holds out the food, Hopefully if our beast lookout can be discreet it'll assuage Thelanis' trepidations. Or we'll find out if he's even suited to this task. I'm not sure how inconspicuous a heard of goats would be. He chuckles to himself at that last bit, imagining stealthy goats hiding behind trees and dashing through the shadows.

Valar will ponder on the city he sees in the distance, wondering if this is the dark city they have been hearing of.
Bringing the eagle with him, feeding it a couple morsels more here and there, Draíocht rejoins Thelanis and Amiz at camp. He says to Thelanis, "I know you had your trepidations, but hopefully you'll find this to be plenty discreet."
Casting speak with animals (spell slot, not ritual) he says to the bird, "Hello, brother eagle. I'm wondering if you could keep your eagle eye on some dwarves for us. There'd be food in it for you." He gestures at the rest of the ration as an incentive.

The eagle quizzically cocks its head and then, after a moment, hops towards you and starts eating the food out of your hand.
