Bards are one of the most versatile classes. As such, I would like to try and run a module with a party consisting of just bards which is something I have experienced once for a one shot as a player, and it did kind of work. I am thinking of possibly doing one of the following modules, to be confirmed on party creation:
Lost Mine of Phandelver
Storm King's Thunder
Waterdeep: Dragon Heist
To apply, please provide the following:
Character name
Race
Intended subclass (might end up starting at a higher level, depending on the module, but assume level 1 for now)
Stats (roll here, rerolling 1s always and if the total before racial modifiers is less than 72, you can reroll)
Backstory (I suggest the party has formed a "band" prior to the adventure. Your backstory can cover up to the creation of the band, or further if you wish)
Module(s) you would be interested in playing (Can be outside of the three I mentioned above, but there is a chance I do not have access to it)
Optional:a possible band name for the party
I am tempted to do this with other classes if the idea is popular. Druid/Cleric are ones that would probably work well, but if you have any other suggestions, feel free to mention them.
Great idea, this is something I'm definitely interested in and will work up a character to submit. The only suggesteds I have to offer is either start everyone off at second leve with one leve being a level 1 'Bard' and 1 level 'any other class' but with the stiplation they 'must' take the 'Minstrel' Background.
I was thinking of saying no multiclassing. Mostly as an experiment of how versatile bards are. If it is a module that it won't eliminate all threat from, I am thinking of starting at level 3 so that people have their subclass already as that can make the difference between a more tanky/dps/healer bard.
If you would have him, I submit Zin for consideration. And yes, he’s a bard’s bard… in that way. 😂
Character Name : Zinhorn Kote (he goes by Zin)
Race : Half Elf
Subclass : Hmmm, not clear, but likely College of Glamour
Stats : 10 12 13 14 14 17
Backstory :
Zinhorn grew up in the town called Luskan, a poor half elf who grew up on the streets. He initially tried his hand at stealing when needed, but found out quickly that his singing voice, his ear, and his talent with the viol gained him more coin than his slick fingers ever could. And he got to keep his fingers, which was a much better deal, he thought. He played for crowds at first down by the docks and then his fame and notoriety allowed him to play at a nicer tavern. He could spin a tale and weave a song that was seemingly magical to its patrons. At times he would recite poetry in between his songs.
He was gaining in fame and feeling on top of the world until it all crashed down. He got a little too close with the barkeep Serena and she apparently had a most powerful suitor that wished to eliminate him from the equation. He fled Luskan and went to Waterdeep, to seek his fortune and hopefully escape the long, powerful arm of his rival suitor. “How could she pick him over me?” He later learned that the pretty lass was seeing on the side some powerful jackhole named Jaraxle, who the hell was he? Little did he know that he had headed out of the frying pan and into the fire, after he learns that he has headed in the wrong direction to get away from trouble.
He is in between gigs and looking to save enough money to get out of town, trying to convince his band Zin and the Embers to join him. They wish to change the band’s name and tell him that if he would keep his pants buttoned up they wouldn’t be in this trouble. Foolishly and with bravado that he manages to muster, he steps forward to meet the crisis, rapier and viol in hand. Singing and making the masses swoon has always been his way of getting out of trouble… but it will have to be a pretty sweet song to get out from this degree of heat.
Module preferred : Waterdeep, Dragon Heist
Band name : Zin and the Embers (but they keep trying to get him to change it 🤣)
I find the idea intriguing. Also other pure class groupings would be interesting to try. I think most of them would be doable with a group that is prepared to work together to balance out weak spots.
Charactername: Skye
Race: Eladrin (Spring)
Intended subclass (might end up starting at a higher level, depending on the module, but assume level 1 for now): College of Glamour
Stats (roll here, rerolling 1s always and if the total before racial modifiers is less than 72, you can reroll): Ability scores: 131816161415
Backstory (I suggest the party has formed a "band" prior to the adventure. Your backstory can cover up to the creation of the band, or further if you wish): I will work on this with the group when module and players are decided as I think they should know each other. The character would likely be a (lead) singer or someone who likes to attract attention, or a dancer.
Module(s) you would be interested in playing (Can be outside of the three I mentioned above, but there is a chance I do not have access to it): Either Storm King's Thunder or Dragon Heist (I'm currently in a Lost Mine campaign and we are quite advanced)
Ideas for band: Everyone's an elf so far; so maybe something geared towards nature? Four seasons, The Five Birdsongs, The Quartet/Quintet of Curiosities, etc.
Module: Heist module sounds fun. Honestly, any of them will work. It's just that Caszimir is designed to draw attention, so a crowd is his element. Empty caverns, not so much.
Backstory: His stage name is Weaver, ideally for his ability to string together a cold flute with a warm viol. His flute is somber and waning, rife of hardship and weariness, reminiscent of a cold storm blowing in. It's for making his audience feel cold and yearning for relief. Then comes his viol, carrying warmth and depth like a piping hot sip of mulled fall cider, warming their souls and delivering comfort on every note. By then, they're putty in his hands, eased into a fine trance by his dulcet rhythm...
...how fitting, then, that he's such a dirty thief. Every smile is another charm, every wink another trap. All for gold, romance, or gossip -- he'll take it. He's a scoundrel, through and through. But a loyal one at that, for those he deems worthy at least. And for his troupe, he would give his all, especially given how much of his "mishaps" they've had to deal with. Of that, he is eternally grateful.
While I prepared the character, another College of Glamour application appeared. Here's another contender as I think you will only want at most one of each subclass:
Charactername: Oriace Tenspirit
Race: Ghostwise Halfling
Intended subclass (might end up starting at a higher level, depending on the module, but assume level 1 for now): College of Tragedy
Stats (roll here, rerolling 1s always and if the total before racial modifiers is less than 72, you can reroll): Ability scores: 161415171716
Backstory (I suggest the party has formed a "band" prior to the adventure. Your backstory can cover up to the creation of the band, or further if you wish): I will work on this with the group when module and players are decided as I think they should know each other. The character would ideally be a narrator of a play, or a drummer in a band.
Module(s) you would be interested in playing (Can be outside of the three I mentioned above, but there is a chance I do not have access to it): Either Storm King's Thunder or Dragon Heist (I'm currently in a Lost Mine campaign and we are quite advanced)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Character name: Primary: Melanie (+ 7 other faces)
Race: Changeling
Intended subclass:College of Swords
Stats Ability scores: Oh boy I'm excited to see these 111014141214
Backstory: I would prefer to work on this with the party, Presumably they would meet Melanie, but perhaps one or two of the characters in the band knows she is a changeling.
Module(s: Waterdeep: Dragon's Heist
Optional- Band Name: Melodic Muse

After joining more my signature got out of hand so I am now a proud member of the extended signature club!! :)
Imagine a comedic campaign with Paladins, similar to Monty Python's Quest for the Holy Grail.

Let's see how the dice gods feel, then maybe...
Ability scores: 12 12 15 13 12 15
I can work with that.
How many people were you thinking of recruiting?
4-5 probably

OOPS: All Bards!

Ugh, those are some bad stats...

You can reroll them. I am going to add a minimum to this too.

I like this concept! Rolling first…

Son of a gun, I'm maybe in!
But since I have a number of ideas for a bard, let's see what the dice gods first have in store!
Ability scores: 14 15 12 11 12 12
Goyo - [Tortle]Druid/Warlock - Circle of Sea/Celestial (Libretalia)
Vogan - [Goliath-Hill]Bard - ???(A Dungeon-Delving Campaign Group C)
Jack Vicvan - [Eladrin]Warlock - Archfey
Ability scores: 14 13 11 15 15 13

Wagner - Dragon Heist: Bards.

Now I feel guilty for rerolling... heh.

I would have to vote for Waterdeep, Dragon Heist.
