Nine men form the patrol: a captain two knights and eight guards.
One of the knights, a gaunt man with a windblown complexion questions Sparhawk, in brief, before deciding he believes his story, or at the very least doesnt think hes a petty criminal. "Hunting in the mountains? I'd think the huge forest just across the river a better host for such quarry, but you look to be made of stouter stuff than most. So, if it's mountain lions your after, I suppose you're in the right place."
The captain concurs, "Right, then. You seem above board. These in-between places are rife with smugglers and brigands, you know? When monstrous things are driven from our towns and villages, where do you think they go? I'll tell you: Places just like this. Tell you what: we were setting up to camp for the night. We'll be keeping a watch and the morry the merrier. What say you?" Offers the captain.
The soldiers spend each evening sharing stories around the campfire—including one harrowing tale about a vampire named Drelnza who once terrorized the neighboring nation of Perrenland. The vampire was never vanquished, and to this day, the soldiers dare to speak her name only in hushed tones.
[If the PCs camp with the soldiers, the soldiers keep watch so they don't have to]
Sparhawk looks to others considering the captains kind offer (he looks at the soldiers, seeing if anything is out of place (brigands in soldier attire, wrong boots, misplaced weapon, etc.) if he sees nothing out of place he will agree but insists his group share in the watches, as the guard does not work for his group.
Tess is accepting of the soldiers offer to share camp, and spends the early evening learning what she can of the surrounding areas. She tries to tie in history she knows with the map and the stories of the soldiers (history 15)
Cha'jil was more than a little annoyed not to be back home but she was making the best of things despite the lack of proper trees and the smell of stale sweat from all the clothed forms around her.
As the sun rose above the forest below, the orange sky gave the ephemeral appearance that the woods were ablaze. As chajil and one of the guards watched the day break, the young man dutifully sounded a call.to rouse the rest of the patrol, inevitably waking Sparhawk and Tess. Somehow, Koselig managed to sleep theough this until most kf the camp.was cleared out and packed up, the sun now shining brightly between the peaks, illuminating the path ahead.
As you continue your journey to the west, you note that the path marked on tbe map forks ahead. To the right a short branch extends I to a valley. To the right, the road winds around the towering mount know as Iggwilv's Horn. What do you do?
“Well, looks like we can go right here or left. Let’s look around for tracks and other signs."
During their ride, it is clear Sparhawk is very comfortable on a horse. He considers summoning his trusty warhorse, but for now will save his energy. “Tess, tell us what has happened to you since we parted at the fort?”
((16 perception/ tracks, clues about the two paths)
Sparhawk scans the surroundings for any signs of movement through this area. The rocky surfaces lend no clue to what may have passed theough here recently, save perhaps the tracks made by the patrol they just met.
He does hear something, though. Amid the winds that bluster through the canyons between the peaks of the Yatils, a buffering sound emerges. Diatant, it reminds one of rhe flapping kf a garrison flag being blown on a brisk day. He listens closely, but hears the sound no more.
"Cha!jil, I sense your uneasiness in this place. It is my belief that once we complete our mission in this strange land, we will be able to go home, and..I fear, not before. Something brought us here, and it is far beyond our control, but, this is where we were trying to get to."
(Sparhawk does not know if he is right or wrong, but..he is a man of faith and he knew his god, Mardok told him to come here. Now that he is near the area he was quested to go to, he feels very comfortable, as if he was meant to be here.)
Tess replies to the question. “I am not sure where i was, I was sent back in time, and my brother… I could not save him. But… still I have hope. I believe I am where i need to be. And Iggwilv is legend. If my brother yet lives, he would be fascinated we are on this journey…”. Her voice trails off. “Right seems the right way to me as well”. She says at the fork.
As the group make their way theough the narrow canyon to the north, Iggwilv's Horn looming over their shoulder, something watches them from above.
Cha!jil js the first ro spot lt, circling in the sky above, a blue dragon. The dragon tightens it's circles ad it descends. A tricky maneuver, but one the d4agon had practiced well. Ad jt flaps, it powers it's flight, rising slightly ad jt powerfully propels itself, then rapidly sinking as it maneuvers, making sharp turns to double back and find its way lower into the canyon.
The adult blue dragon lands on a rocky outcropping and announces, "Ye, who have shambled your way into the territory of Berythrach, what tribute do you bear?" She grins, expectantly as she eagerly awaits either a respectable gift or, almost as gleefully, a stark refusal.

Will you give her anything?
Cha'jil gives Sparhawk a look that indicates she blames him solely for this entire situation.
Cha'jil looks down at her mostly naked form, shrugs and looks towards the others.....she's not seen a Blue Dragon before but has seen the devastation Greens and other large intelligent creatures can bring upon smaller folk.....
"Greetings mighty Berythrach. Thank you for allowing us to walk in your territory without harm. I have heard of the wisdom and generosity of dragons. Tell us, what is it that you desire, but have not found." Sparhawk looks at the dragon and the others. His desire to end the situation without conflict is clear. Also, after facing the mighty Etali, this dragon does not cause Sparhawk fear (He does share his aura of protection with all around him: +3 all saves.)
Berythrach smiles at the question, "Magical items are always welcome gifts, but gold is almost as food, in sufficient quantity. But know that I am not an extortionist. I seek allies in this world, and I believe in helping those who would pay due homage."
(OOC: Have we acquired any money or magic items since we started? My character sheet says I have 530 gold, but that is from before we started playing, I do have a cloak of protection I could throw in, and , I have the custom longsword with the trex teeth, but I do not know its value?)
Sparhawk nods, "Seems very fair, Berythrach. I also appreciate your straightforwardness in this matter. I am known as Sparhawk, my friends can introduce themselves. He nods to his companions, trying to keep things as civil as possible.
"Now, as you say you are seeking allies, I hope I am not too bold in asking you for something in return?"
i don't track your stuff. i do like that the 2024 dmg includes a tracker and a guideline for how many magic items per level and levels per session. its a loose guideline, but i just love having blank spaces to record data hard coded on a sheet. I did drop some 9th level characters in a castle filled with treasures a few days ago... also i think there was a shield guardian, and a gnome offered yo some stuff and yiuo visited the mnsion of a magic gity lord or something. you ought to have acquireed something by now

"Fortune favors the bold." the dragon replies. "What is it that is on your mind?"
