There also remains one hut, three canoes and a wooden cage with a few barrels near it. The hut and canoes are all on tbe far side of the clearing where moments prior stood the village of Yellyark. The cage is nearer, also beyond the perimeter of the displaced village.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Cha!jil laughs uproariously as the village sailds through the air leaping back onto her foes as soon as they land, she's covered in cuts, stings and bruises but seems not to notice.
(ooc: well....that went a bit....sideways. Sorry, intent was to see queens answer, then attack on any further hostilities, play it out as you will: Question: Is Cha!jil and Gell with us or 1/2 mile away?).
Sparhawk rises to his full height, over 6 feet, assessing if Tess and the others are ok. Not seeing them, “Tess, you good?” Then, he refocus on the queen, “Please tell them to stop attacking great wise queen, as will we, lest I become...(he pauses as he chooses his words)..angry.” He says this in goblin and common
The old goblin claws to her feet, the rest of the goblins finding their feet quickly. "You said you come to trade. What have you brought?" Grabstab asks.
<yes, the group is divided by half a mile + of jungle.>
"Ah great queen, you are as wise as you are strong." Sparhawk smiles, trying to delay as long as he can for the party to regroup.
"We have information that may be of value to your tribe. We also have several items that you may find, interesting, but those of my tribe that were separated have trade as well. We will only trade with you if we can both agree to not be enemies, and if you will allow us to leave unharmed once our business is complete."
"My friend here has delicious berries that not only taste good, it can also heal, and by the looks of this group, we could all use a bit of help. May I propose we share some as a sign of our new non hostility pact?" (Hopefully Tess can produce some goodberries).
(OOC: We don't have an ooc thread but do people have ideas how we can get the amulet from the queen, and then have them willingly give us Varn, also what do we have that the ant tribe might value?. Sparhawk will likely tell them the truth, that our group is headed to the rift to fight the evil, that we have been sent by our gods, and that Varn can aid us in this. (Honesty is the best policy...when that's part of your code.....thoughts?)
Just an observation: you said you wanted trade. She agreed to trade. This doesn't seen like the type of group that insists on tea before business. So, trying to make deals outside the trade will probably be met with resistance.
(in goblin:)
"Speak plain! Our village is strong; we endure. But, now, village far from river, much work to rebuild. Move ants, move food, all take time. Time you owe me. Now you want more? No. We don't craft finery, we dont grow crops. We raise ants. Have you come to trade ants?" She ponders on this tought for a moment. "I think, 'no'. Say what you will trade and speak what you would have from me." Grabstab demands. All tbe while, her adult children, servants and guards remain uncharacteristically still and silent, waiting anxiously for yiur reply.
"I like you great queen, you speak plainly and with the straightness of an arrow." Sparhawk nods approvingly.
I do have items to trade but I do not know what would help you.” He pulls out a crossbow, a 10ft pole, a net. Then, he shows his greatsword (with the claws of a t-rex). Finally, he reveals an amulet around his neck, it appears to be a gold Kraken, with green eyes.
"But, these are just things. What I really need is your help. Please have patience and hear me out." The half-orc gathers himself, ponders for a moment and makes a choice (whether good or bad, he will let the gods decide).
"Many would lie and manipulate you, assuming that you are ignorant and unwise, easily fooled. But, I am not like that, and you have seen me offer a peaceful solution despite injury to my friends. This is because we have a higher purpose, one which I believe may be important to you. I will give you my full respect as the leader of your tribe and tell you the truth, as this is my way."
"You see, my companions and I serve different gods and until recently, we did not know each other. We were all given warnings and messages from our gods, mine through dreams, that a rift had opened in the Sanrachmountains to the north. This opening will allow powerful evils, demons, and the dead, to enter Chult and eventually destroy our very existence. This will affect all life on Chult, even your tribe and that of your cousins, and all creatures and peoples here. We are going to face it and close this rift, and we are prepared to give our lives if needed.
I believe I have been guided here to meet you and seek your aid. Great Queen, I suspect your tribe, the great red ant tribe, may be able to help us in our quest. There is a great statue outside your camp. It has not always been there. It was created of wood, iron, and the great and powerful magic of a wizard. I do not pretend to understand this magic. This guardian, named Vorn, protected this wizard during his travels. We may be able to speak with Vorn with our magic, and it with us. But, to do so, we would require the amulet that you wear close to your heart, as I wear my amulet near my own.
If we can make the great statue awaken, I believe it is a boon of your gods desire to help us, and of mine." (He removes his helmet, lifts his hair covering his forehead, revealing two tattooed painted eyes above his own). This shield guardian can help us in healing our lands. Will you allow us to take this great warrior with us?”
Sparhawk pauses, and waits, expecting the queen to continue to be stubborn and unreasonable, but issuing a silent prayer to Marduk and Aphrael, both that she will listen, and that his two other companions are still alive.
( Cha!jil has no LOS on the rest of the group except Gell so will stomp ants and Batari until they give her enough of a breather to follow the trajectory of the village.)
In goblin, Sparhawk speaks quietly but deliberately, “take my sword without my permission…and...” He leaves the rest to the imagination as he puts his hand on his sword. In common, “no…”
he smiles and goes back to his talk, unless there are further disturbances.
The queen basically ignores the actions of her offspring. She continues to listen to Sparhawk as he tells her the idol the tribe worships as a minor deity has the potential to be weilded as a weapon. It takes all of her co trol to hide her expression when she hears tbst she possesses the very key to controlling it. Schemes and machinations begin to form in her mind as she dreams kf using the guardian to seize control if the territories now held by the frogs and shrubs.
Some jf the other goblins balk at these claims that the statue was created by a humanoid hand. Though angered, they do not attack, they merely growl and curse menacingly, waiting for their queen's response. At last comes her answer:
"You have brought us a powerful message this day," she begins, "our tribe will leave you to part with no further harm, but there will be no trade."
With this, she uses the dash action and scurries into the jungle. The other goblins disengage.
The captain shakes his head, but does not pursue. He gathers his belongings and checks on Tess. "Let us find the others. We can mark this area on the map and provide Wakanga with the information on the amulets' whereabouts."
"A friend of mine once said, power swells the head and shatters the crown." (IRL: Steward Stafford) Tess notes a hint of sadness in the man's voice, learning more this day of his integrity and character. "It seems there are many who only look out for themselves, and do not see the greater threat to our world."
"If that fight would have continued, there would be many dead this day, perhaps an entire tribe of people. No item or amulet is worth the blood we would have spilled. Let us find our friends and be on our way, but I'd like to examine Vorn once more. Do you have any ideas, Tess? We still have the journal, and I wonder if the amulet is not the key to its control after all. Let us find the others and heal up."
