There's nowhere to go that doesn't require you to use the water. You can go west across the lake to a tunnel you can walk north in or you could take the rivers North, West, or Northwest. Hence, the boat.
“might be time to try backtracking… I can’t say how far we gotta go, but these tunnels around here seems to be safe and explored” encouraging the group who had lost an ally in the depths, unknown to her.
(OOC: We also have the invisible familiar that can explore some of the earlier tunnels and hone in on if any are worth going on. That should save time and reduce danger of encounters: If DM allows, we would certainly do that for a short time)
tatsat is ready to go on the boat with the others, wanting to explore the “center of the map” south of the basilisk chamber.
”time is of the essence, we cannot wait for the familiar, though if we keep their body safe, the party and the familiar can scout two different areas simultaneously… the only danger is…. If we awaken two sets of baddies and get sandwiched…” she conjectures…

“With the nature of this cave system. It may be safer for everyone to stick together. My familiar and I could go first if that would help. It is interesting that there is a boat here and a river path to traverse down….”
"Maybe someone else is down here exploring and left their boat... or maybe they can no longer return to it."
Koselig is also for using the boat, at least for now.

"A rightful place awaits you in the Realms Above, in the Land of the Great Light. Come in peace, and live beneath the sun again, where trees and flowers grow."
— The message of Eilistraee to all decent drow.
"Run thy sword across my chains, Silver Lady, that I may join your dance.”
So what's the verdict then? Maps is running for the next hour if anyone wants to move a token, otherwise just give me a clear direction. That goes for the familiar top, but I still need a direction for it to go if it wants to pole around.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Seeing his allies take an interest in the boat and examine it Koselig decides to take a closer look himself.

Kos notices something about the pattern of the knotwork carvings on the boat. The variations in the texture seem to be indicative of some encoded information. The gnome is at a loss for its meaning, though. Not so the recently befriended xorn. They explain that this tactile language is an an familiar dialect, but if they use similar glyphons, it would say something like "shrimpkin"
At this utterance, the boat begins to propel itself in the indicated northwestern direction. Armed with this command word, you can now command the boat to row itself in a particular direction at a speed of 30 feet or to hold its position in defiance of the water's swiftest currents.
The xorn assure you they will follow along navigating through the earth glide a course around all this water and meet you soon. The boat ferries you along the river which rapidly speeds up as you pass under the bridge. It flows for a while before turning to the right and revealing a cavern with a beach on the far shore and an island in the flooded center of the space.
Edit.. I imagined this beach. see image below. Does not exist.

"Good idea Tatsat. We know not where each tunnel goes." Sparhawk looks at the group. "Do we agree or do we take the boat north?"
I’d vote for the boat

"Very well, we'll take the boat North, but have Diabrix do a bit of scouting, but be very careful. There are very dangerous areas here. All agreed?"
(Ooc last time I saw the map it seemed we explored the north but I’m down to move with the group for now)
(I saw there is a large unexplored area north of the entrance but south of tue horizontal basilisk chamber… south east across tue lake to start)
"Maybe someone else is down here exploring and left their boat... or maybe they can no longer return to it."

Did anyone ever address this?

(Lets explore the river leading north west near the bridge.)
Agreed let’s explore the rivers (didn’t see them last time) the one you propose is fine to start !
Can someone do an investigation for this. You don’t want my char doing it ….
Meerwin steps forward, blue skin glowing, looking at they boat. They study it, blue eyes trailing over the item.
