The boat can be anywhere you like. I just left it where it was. The description says it's an action to speak a command word ro collapse it. Haven't checked 2024 but maybe jt says a magic action. Either way, its an action. I don't think anything will happen to it in any case. Especially since it is a magic item.
Also, shrimping makes it go, which is handy since to get out of this cul de sac you're rowing upstream against a strong current. Shrimping makes this fact almost irrelevant.
Also, that's why I didn't give Sparhawk an ordinary folding boat earlier.
There are other command words to make it change sizes. Normally rhe identify spell takes care of that
