(somehow missed the notification for this thread) We are in darkness currently so that attack would be at dis due to no darkvision. I rolled again in the sheet (14).
Sehaethas has no vision of where this creature is, but can hear the party hitting something. He fires a bolt in the general direction of the combat, hoping to not hit his new companions, and gets lucky as the bolt goes straight through the central eye of the creature, which proceeds to drop to the floor not moving anymore.
Xaul roars with triumph and says 'Great shot Sehaethas, you got it!' He then heads over to the little corpse and picks it up, then takes out a dagger and starts to cut it into segments like an orange. Assuming he gets some strange and questioning looks from the party, he explains that 'I'm going to add some of it's blood to Humid Oasis. My patron appreciated that dragon blood I fed it, so I thought why not add more blood from magical creatures to keep them happy and fuelled? It'll make a delightful, eldritch cocktail of sorts.' He then squeezes one of the Gazer segments blood into his flask, then tosses aside the drained body. As he screws back on the lid, he turns to the party and says 'Alright, let's follow the chalk symbols on the walls, though I'm unsure if that means we should follow the tunnel nearest to the sigil or go up the ladder. What do you guys think?'
[I'm not expecting anything at all to come from the gazer blood, just a quirk of Xaul's lol]
Damros curses softly as he totally forgot about those members who are 'dark blind'. Rummaging about with his pack he pulls a torch and works his tinderbox into a proper state to light the torch. He will pass it to whichever of the 'non see-ers' is willing to carry it.
Xaulnods. 'Up it is then' He goes over to the ladder, hesitates for a second as he wonders whether or not it's trapped or alarmed, but brushes the thought aside and just climbs up anyway.
Xaulcalls the rest of the party up, starting with Damros since he's got the torch to help guide the non-darksighted folk up the ladder. He then investigates the room, seeing if there's an exit, any useful supplies or prominent items in the cellar. Investigation: 8
You look around and the only way out of here is a trapdoor that seems latched shut from the outside. There is some crates of salted meat, some kegs of alcohol and what looks like spare bar stools around. That is it
Xaul says to the party 'Might be worth taking some of that cured meat since it'll keep a while. I'd love to take a keg of beer or two as well, but they'd probably be too large to carry down that ladder, or about in general.' He then picks up a bar stool, and holding it outwards so the legs are pointing forward, he says 'I'm gonna use this to see if we can burst through the trapdoor. If this place is a front of some kind for the Xanathar's Cult, then be prepared for a fight. If not, expect very awkward chat on the other side.' He then braces and rushes at the trapdoor, slamming the legs of the bar stool into the door to try and force it open. Athletics: 17
As the smelly (due to sewer wading, not saying this is normal for him) half-orc bursts through the trapdoor, the barkeep and the patrons in the seemingly ordinary tavern all simultaneously start screaming. The human male behind the bar quickly grabs a bottle from the shelf, smashes it and holds it out, sharp edges towards you. "Stay back! I am not afraid to stab you in self defence. And someone go get the city guard quickly!"
Xaullands on the floorboards and curses in Orcish. This wasn't what he expected at all. He gets up, and thinking that running away into the sewers will only make things worse since that will make the bar owners believe he's a cultist and might possible chase after him, he decides to handle things diplomatically. He stands up straight, brushes himself down and says whilst leaning against a table 'Relax, please, I mean no harm! I am with the City Guard, me and my comrades have been investigating the sewers beneath your tavern and found it dangerously close to an underground cult. We can fix up your pub with magic, we were simply just coming in to check you weren't involved in criminal activity!' He then flashes a toothy grin at the barkeep, clearly not a City Guard member from his warlock's attire and sewer odour hanging off him. Deception: 6
Xaul curses again. He considers making chase after the person who's seeking the City Guard, or trying to keep up his foolish façade pretending to be a City Guard himself, but in a split second decision he decides against it. He looks around at the unarmed commoners inhabiting the tavern, along with the armed barkeep, and at first it looks like he's about to say something, but then he spins around and legs it back into the cellar. He yells to the party 'GET BACK IN THE SEWERS, GET BACK IN THE SEWERS NOW!!!', and assuming they follow his orders and go back down the ladder, he quickly casts Mage Hand to uncork one of the kegs of alcohol, then uses the Mage Hand to light a match from his tinderbox and throw it, as Xaul himself jumps down the hole back into the tunnels. At the bottom, he breathes heavily and says 'We...uh....we need to get going. The City Guard won't be able to follow us through the cellar since I...um...dealt with that, but it's best we keep moving.' Sweat is dripping off his forehead, and it looks like he's exhausted despite the fact that he hasn't actually used any of Humid Oasis's powers.
"Well, that went well..." Damros snarks as he shuffles back onto the least scummy bit of this section of sewer.
"When we finally get out of the sewer, I am burning these clothes." Holding the torch aloft, he starts moving further along their path from the last 'wall mark'.

Not having access to spells himself, Sehaethas pulls his light crossbow from his back and fires a bolt instead.

You climb up and find yourself in what appears to be a cellar of a tavern. There is no sign of any of the yellow symbols around the cellar.

The person on their way to the door hesitates from what you said, but the barkeep quickly nods at them and you see them hurry out.
