Borvnir turns away from Zeezee and ignores it. He used to have a mouse when he was an urchin as a child, but he eventually ate it when the food supply got short. ‘Dragon’s Rest sounds exactly what I need. I’m wounded but it’s nothing a night’s sleep can’t fix. I’m happy to head over whenever you guys want’
Zeezee scurries back into Zin’s pack as Zinzenzax gets up and brushes off the sand dirt and zombie yuck. “Ready Dragon’s Rest sounds great I haven’t slept well last few nights.” Zin is ready to lead follow or get out of the way, as we head up the stairs I’m guessing.
As you climb the stairs, the cloister of Dragon's rest comes into view. Most of the inhabitants of the place, who tyrn out to be kobolds, quickly come and surround you. You see a few humans watching from a respectful distance. One of the kobolds pipes up with, “What’s your name?” At that, all the kobolds begin barraging you with questions—“Where are you from?” “What’s that?” “Why are you here?” and more that are lost in the din.
"HI, I'm Lothar. It's bear, the undead are scaring the fish! Who is the Innkeeper?" and scampers his way on all 4s in the direction indicated.
At the Innkeeper(while purring) "Hello, my companions and I seek accommodations for the night. I specifically would like to get kitchen privileges and supplies, especially meats and spices! because you don't win friends with salad." then pulls 4 gold (assumes this is a great offer) and offers it to the Innkeeper.
Cherry stares at the kobolds. So. Many. Kobolds. Little dragon things. Though these ones seemed... friendly? Kind of like Irtos maybe? Still in a bit of culture shock her voice is a bit unsure. "Uh, hello little dragon people." she says, wincing at calling them "little" despite being similar sized. She looks over to Irtos for any hints on how to interact with his kind. "Is there an Elder Runara amongst you?"
The kobolds fail to indicate any directions for either Runara or an innkeeper. They continue to barrage you with questions, with "Why are you here?" and "What's your name?" being predominate.
‘Out of my way! All of you!’ Borvnir tries to wade his way through the mass of kobolds to reach the humans in the distance. To him it looks like these inferior dragonkin will just ask a lot of questions and not give many answers. Athletics check to push through the kobolds and move them out of his way: 20
You easily wade through the kobolds, who mostly ignore you, however, once you are out you see that the human in the distance has vanished. Cherry and Lothar, the kobolds seem most interested in you, apparently, non-dragonfolk are rare around here.
Following Irtos' example Cherry says, "The name is Cherry Littleoak, laddies." She tries to head over towards Lothar, gently nudging kobolds out of the way with her staff. Safety in numbers and all if he seemed to be the other predominant target of their queries. "I'm here hoping to see Elder Runara and, apparently, to fight zombies." She tries to shift the kobolds' attention to themselves, "So, er, what brings you all to live here in Dragon's Rest?"
[[ I will say the mental image of all these kobolds in a crowd asking questions to the group is giving me a delightful chuckle. ]]
'Eh, typical, all the normal folk have gone and disappeared. Best we continue up the stairs until we find them aga...' Borvnir's train of thought is cut off as he turns around to see the party still swarmed by kobolds and to his shock and annoyance, entertaining their questions, rather than having moved on like he had. 'Don't just stand there, come on, we've got things to get up to and these little runts are gonna be no help!' He gives an irked growl at the kobolds and wrinkles his snout at them. Something about the way they were so insistently nagging gave him a bad taste in his mouth (alongside the vomity aftertaste of his acid breath)
[I'm imagining the kobolds acting kinda like a group of preschool students or toddlers which is a really funny image considering most of them are probably fully grown lmao]
[I love the idea of the kobolds being like preschool students because it'll make them getting mad at Borvnir that much funnier.]
"Your name is cherry?" "Are you a cat?" "Why Cherry?" "I like cherries!" "Do you have any fish?" "Aren't cherries poisonous?" 'Low-thar? What's a Low-thar?" "Do you have any cherries?" "Where's my cherries?"
Zinzenzax has never seen so many kobolds. Even though Lothar and Cherry are the celebrities here, Zin is also feeling the looks and random questions, although he is too overwhelmed to answer any and just tries to follow after Borvnir.
Lothar is overwhelmed by all the kobolds. He runs on the floor dodging feet and legs making his way to Borvnir. "Sorry, man!" As he climbs up to stand on Borvnir's shoulder.
With a paw on Borvnir's head to steady himself, Lothar looks around the room for the humans, the kitchen and the Inn staff.
Cherry follows Lothar's example of escaping the throng. "Ack! Too. Many. Questions." she mutters in Halfling. She tries to get on a side of Borvnir bereft of kobolds as a hiding place.
The chattering kobolds fall silent as a new figure comes into view, descending gracefully from the upper part of the cloister. She’s an elderly human woman with weathered brown skin, white hair in tight braids, and kindly hazel eyes, dressed in a simple white robe. She smiles as she draws near and extends her arms in greeting.
“Welcome to Dragon’s Rest,” she says. “May Bahamut’s guidance lead you to whatever you seek. I would like to thank you for destroying those abominations at the beach. They would have continued up here and attacked the cloister, which would have been terrible.”
Seeing that someone had arrived, Irtos finally separates from the other kobolds and scampers up the stairs before bowing before the elderly human. "Greetings my lady. I am Irtos, cleric of Bahamut."
Cherry feels relief as the kobolds quiet down with the woman's arrival. She steps out from behind Borvnir, "Was no problem, lass." she says, "An act o' self-preservation really."
Borvnir gives a grumble as Lothar perches on his shoulder, but doesn't do anything about it. Seems the kobolds aren't the only ones around that are going to be hanging off him. He then greets the elderly woman by saying 'Thank you kindly for your welcome, I am Borvnir, and exterminating those vile zombies on the shore was my absolute pleasure. I've heard we can get bed and board at Dragon's Rest, is that correct? I'd like to take some time to rest up and heal.' He sees it best not to mention the kobolds and risk offending the woman that will assumedly be their host at Dragon's Rest, and he also pays no attention to her and Irtos's references to Bahamut. In his teen years, Borvnir was part of a cult dedicated to Tiamat. Even though he eventually managed to leave (rituals and prayers aren't really his thing), he still feels he has a strained opinion and relationship with the other draconic god.
Zinzenzax quietly avoiding eye contact and interaction with the kobolds, looks up as the elder speaks of Bahamut he briefly makes eye contact but in that moment he feels hope.
”I’m so glad, I tried to help destroy them too. I would like to know more. Oh um sorry Borvnir, right a chance to rest.”
