The voice. The voice Hadrian thought he had left behind, buried in the past, in the waves of the sea. "You’ve always been such a disappointment." His father’s voice, harsh and sharp, spills from Ka-Cha’s mandibles. The taste of salt floods his mouth, and he’s no longer standing in the courtyard of a ruined estate. No, he’s back on the deck of Sea Serpent, the familiar sting of those words—words that had shaped his life, gnawed at his every ambition—crashes over him like a wave breaking against jagged cliffs.
No matter how hard he fought, how much he tried, Hadrian had never been able to prove himself in his father’s eyes. Never enough.
He knows it’s a trick. He knows the witch is playing with his mind, twisting the memories, but it doesn’t stop the impact. His ears buzz with the sound of the sea, distant yet deafening. And then, faint but growing louder, his sister’s screams pierce through the fog like an arrow to his heart.
"Hadrian!” Her voice, frantic and desperate, calls to him from somewhere he can’t see. He had left her. Begged him not to go, not to leave her behind. But Hadrian had been too stubborn, too desperate to prove to his father that he was a man, that he could make his own way. And he had convinced himself that she deserved better, that the sea would swallow her whole if she stayed. He only wish he had the courage to take her with him at the time.
He tightens his grip around his greatsword, his knuckles white. But the memories, the guilt, they flood him. He can still hear his sister’s cries, feel the cold sea spray on his skin. "Get out of my head!" Hadrian growls through clenched teeth. He swings his sword again, anger fueling the strike, the blade cuts through the air to find its mark.

WARP WITCH Q's RETREAT TRIGGERS AN OPPORTUNITY ATTACK FOR HADRIAN
End of Round: 26/36 HP
The warp witch by Nyx starts its long slow slither towards the rogue. "Where are you, little birdie, little birdie? Always stealing a crumb..."
Hiding in the haze, the bird takes the shot. Despite the piercing migraine, he aims the arrow true and it goes flying. It strikes its target right in the chest. The witch screams.
"Oh I will fatten you up and roast you alive!"it cries like some sort of fairytale hag. Tales like these used to scare you when you were younger. These lines read straight off a page (surprisingly you can still remember). Though, you don't recall what happens next in the tale for the two plucky protagonists, but in any case, you know how it ends. You hide into the obscurity of the fog.
"Do not expect anything in this life." A memory from your first Academy professor is unearthed from deep within your head. You see the tall blueish elf tower above you, breaking your first attempt at a wand with a snap. "Minimal effort." A quill x-es off a paper. It fades just as suddenly as it popped up. The witch recoils in pain when Heiboros grabs it back. It tries to yank its arm away but as soon as it does lightning trails across its pale skin. "RAGGGGGHHHHH!"
"Heiboros!"Cosmos calls out. He looks to you with terror in his eyes. You know in this moment what he is going to do. You've seen this before (this boy always got into all sorts of trouble... always hurting himself). His hands glow a sickening green and he grabs your feathers, pulling you to the side before you lift off. You feel the warm trickle of his magic flowing your veins as he heals you. Your cuts fold onto themselves and the blood clots. He nods and lets go. He too backs up from the incoming witch.
Suddenly from behind a sword swipes down from across its body. The witch looks perplexed for a moment as it just stands there, its body's vapors trail off from either side of the cut. Inside Hadrian's head begins a maelstrom.
"You left me behind!"An image of your ragged sister flashes before your eyes, her skin sunken in like a corpses and her wail just as terrible. "You- you left me!" she cries out. You remember the first time she nearly had the accident on board. Her foot got stuck in between the boards. You were supposed to be keeping an eye on her that day while the crew was docking. It was just an ordinary routine. Dock the boat. Pick up supplies. Depart. You didn't know a mimic had snuck on board. You didn't inspect the supplies as closely as you could've. She was just reading. That girl always had a vivid imagination. You didn't expect the scream to be real one. She nearly lost her hand that day. You've never lived it down since.
"You lied to me."
Putrid images bombard you for the next few seconds. For you, it feels like a lifetime. You feel the sword hit your father's. You see him dead on the floor. You hear the echoes of the sea. You feel the sting of the salty ocean 'rain' on your wounds. You feel the pain throb in your right eye. You feel your wounds split open. You see your sister swallowed alive by an ocean that is just as uncaring.
"Get out of my head!"
Across its face for a moment looks to be genuine terror. The warp witch had turned to face you in your moment's idleness. Rather than its triumphant glare, it stares at you with eyes wide and open. The light from your smite completely seems to shatter it. Your light engulfs it. It shrieks with an upmost horror, not the painful one from before but a pained one. Like glass parts of it fall to pieces, ghastly vapor smoking off of it. It reforms a moment later, but it turns away from you in utter disgust. So too does one that had come out to reach for you, but it glides away in a second's notice.
Soon enough on its face returns its confident smarm.
To its side, Tenilius is working on something, face scrunched. With a universal 'pop' an owlbat swoops in distract the warp witch who just now realizes her grip on the half-elf. "Grrraghhh." It squints its face in annoyance at the bird... er... mammal-bird... bird-mammal. It seems to be having a hard time figuring out what it is (why is this the thing that is confusing it? it's literally a warp witch!) as it attempts to swipe at him with its tendrils. It even looks about to bite it. It turns to face Tendilius, scoffing. Its eyes seem to shine; you can now see something behind what had been just dull (almost animalistic) moments before. "You can't do things by yourself, can you? Always calling on for others for help."
You can't quite recall whose voice it is calling out from, but you remember it somewhere deep within your bones, someone who mocked you.
"Pathetic."
You see its body start to writhe. Yet its head stays completely still. There is something unnerving about the way it continues to speak while its body (especially its gut) does some sort of convulsion. It whispers in your ear for only you to hear."Not to be born... magic."
"hrggh," it starts to moan."hrrgahh!" It spits it out: a wriggling maggot. The huge larvae lays there on the floor in its own liquids beneath your feet while the witch slowly rises from doubling over. It stares at you once more with blank eyes. It yells.
It is one of the most painful things you've ever felt.
"It's trying to get away!" Cosmos shouts. He points over to the warp witch just standing beside Ka-Cha's body. Heiboros knows what this means. It's not in this dimension anymore.

Talia’s image flashes before him, sunken and ghastly, more corpse than memory. Hadrian flinches, as though the sight of her could wound him, because in truth, it does. The ghost of that day has haunted him for years—the day she almost lost her hand, the day he failed her. His mind spirals back to that scream, the same scream that had split the air then, one he had dismissed as her imagination until it was too late. The mimic, the blood, her terrified face—his failure.
Putrid images bombard Hadrian’s mind—his father’s blood staining the deck. His sister, swallowed by the sea as though it were her grave. The guilt, the shame, the anger, the endless waves crashing over him, threatening to pull him under.
No, that’s not the way.
As Hadrian’s blade connects with the witch, the radiant energy within him swells. Light pours from the sword, searing through the oppressive darkness that had clung to them. The witch shrieks, its form shattering like fragile glass, vapor trailing off in twisted, ghastly tendrils. But even as it reforms, it turns away from him, recoiling in disgust.
Taking the opportunity, Hadrian strikes again, blade slicing through at the witch that has turned away from him. He feels the weight of his memories pressing down on him, but they no longer control him. His eyes burn with fury—at the witch, at his past, at the lies and the failures that had threatened to define him.
His greatsword gleams in his grip, the radiant energy still humming beneath its surface. "You can twist my mind all you like," Hadrian growls, gripping his sword tighter. "But you won't break me."
The air around him still crackles with energy as the witch vanishes. He glances around, searching, but the creature is gone—where, he doesn't know. It doesn’t matter. He can’t waste time chasing shadows. There’s still a battle to be won.
Turning, he sees Ka-Cha on the ground, the Thri-Keen’s body trembling under the lingering influence and injuries of the witch’s possession. Hadrian strides over and reaches down, gripping Ka-Cha’s arm firmly. Healing energy flows from his hand into the Thri-Keen. “Come on,” Hadrian says, pulling him to his feet, "We need you."

"You left me behind!"
