Gaberin investigates the wall where the glowing Fairie Fire revealed the outline of the door. As far as you can tell, there is only an outline, nothing to trigger the door.
Jubilee looks around the room and is drawn to the statue at the top of the stairs. She walks over to the statue and looks it over. It depicts a knight, his sword in front of him pointing at the ground. He seems vaguely familiar. You think it looks like that guy on the mural, the leader guy... you know, the guy... but you can't remember his name. Maybe it'll come to you if you think about it long enough.
On the base of the statue, you notice a small plaque with an inscription that reads:
"If you are to keep this, you must first give it to me."
DMs note: We're really close to the end of the adventure guys, and I don't want to lose too much steam, so I'll say you all remember what you saw since it just happened like a couple of hours ago.
(You all stare at the engraving on the statue and think back to the wall.
Flashback:
As you inspect the North Wall, you see that the carvings are pretty large and seem to depict several different scenes that show what appears to be an order of knights in several battles.
As you go further along the northern wall, following and inspecting the murals, you see a large carving of a very regal-looking knight. His armor looks more intricate than the rest, making you all think he might have been the leader or founder. Underneath, the name 'Sextus Varius' is inscribed. Next to him, there is a further inscription that reads as follows:
"I pledge to serve law, protect the innocent, battle the agents of chaos, and never reveal the secrets of the Delian Order. My word is my bond, my life and honor is for the order, for this night and all nights to come."
This seems to be the extent of what is on the northern wall.)
Jubilee stands in front of the statue and recites the inscription from the northern wall
"I pledge to serve law, protect the innocent, battle the agents of chaos, and never reveal the secrets of the Delian Order. My word is my bond, my life and honor is for the order, for this night and all nights to come.“
(Gaberin heads to the cage area, where Bess is curled up, visibly scared. He uses a nearby rock to break open the lock and let Bess out. She runs out and hugs Gaberin's leg in relief.
As Jubilee recites the Delian Oath, the room begins to shake and the statue before you begins to glow with a faint blue light. The eyes on the statue grow brighter than the rest, and they appear to be scanning the room and seeing who is here. The light focuses on Manxim. A voice booms from the statue.)
"Step forward, Warrior of the Delian Order. You have pledged your life to our cause. In return, we present you the only thing we have left to give. I give you... DEFENDER."
(The stone sword shatters and crumbles away, but what is left is a real sword made of a dark steel with a barely perceptible blue tint. It may be the most beautiful sword any of you have ever or shall ever see in your lives. The glow in the eyes fades as the voice begins to fade.)
"Jubilee!! You have to take it. I've heard a song or two in my day about weapons I thought weren't real, but if they're even a fraction of the beauty and might of this one then I understand how they're worthy of a song." After urging her to take the sword, Rori will scan the room and see Bess is free.
Walking over to the small girl, Rori will squat and pull a small rag doll out of her coat. Holding it out to Bess, the tiefling will say in a soft voice, "Your dad sent us to get you. He's very brave and so are you. Are you ready to go see him now?" She will extend a hand towards Bess— who's currently latched onto Gaberin— to help her get up, if the girl wants to keep holding hands while they find their way out then that's fine by Rori.
DMs note: Totally a mistake I tried to fix, but the stupid editor wouldn't load to let me fix, so yeah. Sorry about that.
(Rori's kind words seem to put Bess at ease a little more. She happily takes the rag doll and is momentarily distracted by just being a kid again.
Satisfied that you've done all you can, you all decide to head back. You deftly make your way back past the trap, the dead Goblin and Wolf bodies. You pass by the area where you left Krang, the lazy Goblin, tied up. He has, predictably, gotten loose and is long gone. Oh, well.
You trek briskly, already somewhat familiar with the woods and no longer having to worry about tracking. It is late in the evening, around 8 or 9pm when the party arrives back at the north edge of town near Rickard's property.)
"Bess! My sweet girl!"
(Rickard runs and meets you all outside of his gate just as you clear the woods. He has obviously been waiting near there, hoping to see you all return.
"Papa!" Bess cries, as they run and embrace each other, both shedding tears of joy. The sight of the big, burly Blacksmith crying over having his little girl back brings joy to all of your hearts. After letting them have their moment, Rickard thanks all of you, shakes all of your hands, and bids you all to allow him to take you back to the Tavern so that you may rest.
"They did it! They saved my girl!" Rickard shouts as they enter the busy Tavern. The townspeople are all excited, cheering, clapping you all on the back, congratulating you all and Rickard for getting his daughter back. Willfred shakes all of your hands and offers you all whatever you wish to drink or eat, on the house. Jack the Serving Boy hugs Bess and holds back tears as well. The entire tavern proclaim you heroes and surround you, eager to hear your tales of heroism and how you saved Bess. And, yes, you do get paid. $$$ :)
DMs note: Guys, it was a pleasure, I hope you enjoyed. Thanks for playing!
