"I was thinking something similar... However if we all go, the Giants that do come through are unguarded here in our cell. Yet if Thar goes alone he may have his hands full on the other side. Should we split into two teams?"

I think this is what Thar is planning for, a room you can only get to with a passwall spell.
Given there are 10 days to prepare Thar tries to determine if he could use Stone Shape multiple times to excavate some of the castle floor, say create a spiral staircase to help with his Passwall "attack from above plan".
Aeliarin also has Wall of Stone to help with castle building.

I think this is what Thar is planning for, a room you can only get to with a passwall spell.
"My initial thought", says Thar "was to have a very lockable room underground to set up the chain gate. The passwall was to create a hole in the ceiling from which to attack the entering giants hopefully without needing to engage in melee. But perhaps we could do it a bit of different by waiting for the giants to come through and then blocking their retreat, say a wall of stone in front of the gate. Then we dispose of the giants and we could all go invisibly through the gate to complete the cunning plan."
"It works so long as they don't close their gate after sending a party through." Fah'lin says, "We're also vulnerable to the same tactic, if the Giants here try to take our gate to some node they are familiar with."

Arya "We could have someone shut our side down as soon as we are through."
Thar has an insight "If someone is in one side of the gate it blocks people coming through from the other side. It's a safety feature to stop two things being in the same place at the same time."
"And if that someone were invisible," says Thar "they could perhaps sneak passed the giants and block the gate without them knowing. That could allow us the time needed to dispatch the ones that had come through without concern as to reinforcements. Might be worth a try."

Arya "??? Um? Or we could send invisible people through the gate but have someone standing in the gate on our side blocking them from coming here. The invisible strike team steals their chain. Our friend Laelran of the royal elven house Goldenrod could do it as long as he had a way to Fey Step out of the room. A small hole in the very thick walls he can see through would let him escape."
Thar having taken some time and considered at length Arya's suggestion. "I think that could work and perhaps with a few Stone Shape spells I can fashion a hole worthy of the task." Should the other not disagree he will proceed in making a small hole.
"You were able to tell from here where the nearest node is." Fah'lin says to Thar, "Will you be able to tell where we are on the other side? We may need to... followup. Will we be able to reach their nearest node once we've taken their gate?" He asks.

DM’s clarification: when you connect to the ‘nearest node’ you don’t know where it is, necessaryly, you just know it is the nearest. But once you have connected and traveled you can always reconnect from wherever you may be.
Okay it is painfully obvious that Aeliarin and Gijigume have left this plain of existence.
I've been in contact with a new player who will be joining us soon and I'll try to find at least one more.
Let's have a new start. The expedition to steal the frost giant's chain is a success and you have made your way back to the steading to plan for the future. The frost giant lair is in a far away cold region so they are no direct/immediate threat. This will give the new version of the group time to get their act together. Once the newbie arrives we'll have a smallish adventure to get to know each other.
OOC: No, just nothing to add. And the chain stuff isn't really making sense, so Gijigume's just letting others get on with it.
I wish you had posted these issues two weeks ago. Going silent doesn't move things along it just makes it more difficult to advance the story. Indeed, it now looks like Fah'lin and Thar have disappeared.
Let's try again to get this train back on the tracks. Everyone who is still interested sound of so I can work out what I need to do.
Okay you are all still here. We will be getting a couple more people once they get their act together.
This thing with the Chain Gate... I thought it was rather straightforward but it went on and on and on interminably.
1. if you connect two chains you can step through as long as no one is standing in the gate on the other side. Same with connecting to a Node. If someone (thing) is standing there you can't pass through. 2. you can connect with a Ley Line Node if you know where it is. Or you can connect to the nearest without knowing anything about it. 3. if you connect to a Node you can pull the chain through with you to the destination. You cannot do this when you connect to another chain. 4. you know that the Frost giants will connect to the Hill giant chain on the full moon. This is a regular event.

ooc: I am also waiting for the chain/node/whatever part of the game to end so we can get back to killing giants.
