"The undead defy the natural world. The body does not return to the earth to help new life come into being. The undead take and do not give back. Foul, loathsome creatures." Sathalvir ponders this moment, the sound of destiny, whispers on the wind.
Sathalvir thinks back on his studies in the forest under the great druid's wisdom, the great ranger's tutelage. Did either impart wisdom or knowledge that would help guide his next step?
OOC. Should I make a History, Perception, or Arcana check?
I don’t really thing a skill check should guild your choices, what would character do
OOC. I know way to much about every monster ever created. I DM. And have DM'd since 1982. I guess what I was asking for was some framework. Some boundaries about what my character might know. Because the last thing I want a player to do is quote me about how to dismantle the magic involved in creating a lich. I'd rather approach the situation with no knowledge than to have too much specific knowledge. So, the roll was just to establish that. That's all.
(Before Urselles leaves). Joran notes that; "Should only take an hour or two for Normand's charity work in the north; if we wait we'll be back just after dark. If we help we could leave a lot sooner." The young man looks eager to get going. He doesn't look pleased by the notion of charity work, but if it'll get them going faster, he'll do anything. He looks eager for adventure.

OOC: OOC: I'm pretty much completely new to the game and have been trying to avoid looking up monster stats or lore/weaknesses so I can be naive. It's been a fun go but I do like peaking at high CR enemies. Appreciate you not blowing the doors off of the campaign!
One of the best features of PbP is the roleplaying element. I definitely don't want to be the Lore Master in the room and have every little detail made available. No fun! And wow, would that put me in the hot seat with the DM!!
(An Arcana check, and a high one, will aid anyone in knowing what a lich is. As for player knowledge; I tend to tweak monsters, and even NPCs, so they are rarely exactly what you'd find in the book. I also try to approach them in different ways, changing their environments and attitude.)
"don't, just go and try not to hurt yourselfs, I'm sure Normand would appreciate it but, you all seem to have your own goal in mind, so don't let the fact someone you just met won't be there ok"
Ooc:I want to get some thing I feel established, when we started this campaign I was looking forward to a more open world experience, one where a lot of characters where going to be involved and a lot of different stories all going in there own direction, but now that we've continued playing it seems like we're more and more just molding into a regular party, so, is that just how this going to be, I'm ok if we do go down the regular party road but I was looking forward to some open world freedom

I know not everyone will hang out together all the time and I don't plan for them to; though I won't stop you if you do. I think Croak asking for Urselles to join them, is just that. Croak seems to like Urselles and would want your company, even though you've just met. I don't feel like people are just trying to keep the group together.)
"Sathalvir, these are two different stories, but we don't know whether they are connected. One is the necromancer that we are after, that expreimented on our friend, we are going to try to find one of his apprentices now. The other one is the "lich king," who has threatened an acquintance of ours with death, unless she enters his service. The two may or may not be connected. Also, we have one proven and a suspected thief around, so we have a lot on our hands." Then I look at Urselles "Are you going to be at the temple when you are back? I appreciate that you don't want to hurt anyone, but we might need your healing powers."
"Where there's a lich, there's surely to be dark magic, friends." Sathalvir bids the group farewell and heads to the area where the lich is rumored to lair. He intends to scout the area. Take notes. Map it out.
After a few quick questions around town, Sathalvir finds that no one has heard of the lich and you are sure most of them don't know what it is, possibly all of them. Some might not know what lair means.
Sathalvir shakes his head. He retraces his steps back to the adventuring party. When he has the opportunity he approaches the character who the lich-king threatened, and asks, "How could you have possibly threatened such a hellish creature? Is it possible for the living to insult the undead?" The notion brings him to laughter.
Reapproaching the group, Sathalvir asks which of them was threatened by the lich; to which they reply that none of the group had been threatened; that it was Isa, a villager.
"The poor women was nearly frightened to death, she's currently staying at Dar's tower which is you go there you should probably take one of us with you, the tower is armed with traps"

The threat was conveyed by an apparition that Isa believed to be a ghost, but of course she is al elderly villager who does not know anything about undead and extraplanar creatures. Look, to tell you the truth, I am not sure whether even the ghost was a real ghost, not to mention the lich king. I was planning on asking her a few questions later, when we return.
