The sensation would be merely ticklish, the feeling of the dark mist as its probing tendrils slip around your ankles and caress your calves as you creep forward down the hallway. Ticklish, save for the ghoulish chill, the goosebumps that rise on your arms and the small hairs on the back of your necks standing on end. You pass a door on either side, each one ajar and opening onto a small bedroom, Ebder’s on the right and Katulah’s on the left. But the curlicues of black inky silk thicken with each step. They are thickest where they cluster along the edges of the final door at the end of the hallway. The door is closed but a light turn of the doorknob reveals that it is unlocked.
As they moved further down the hallway, the air grew thick with a chill that was more than just cold — it was a deep, pervasive wrongness. The small jar of firefly 'light' was struggling to cast a weak light that was more suggestive than illuminating, barely pushing back the impenetrable blackness of the corridor. The hallway itself was changing; not feeling like a normal corridor but having a slickness with something other than water, making every step treacherous.
The black mist coiled around Bell's ankles like a hungry, predatory animal. It was not smoke, but a thicker, more deliberate vapor that slithered and snaked; a living shadow that tasted of grave dirt and ozone. When it brushed against bare skin, it felt less like mist and more like a clammy, icy touch, a ghostly hand reaching out to grab hold.
"Maybe it is just me but, this is making me feel worse and worse - and that is not even addressing the increased chill of the air. I hope we can end this soon." She watched as her words turned to a dense fog before her eyes. "Does anyone have something like a magical dispell or end curses -- although, I am not sure if those would do anything to a book."
With every step, the mist seemed to grow, rising to lick at their knees, then their thighs, a tide of pure darkness that threatened to consume them entirely. The dim light caught the edges of the swirling vapor, giving it a fleeting, oily sheen, like the rainbow residue on stagnant water. It moved with an unnatural purpose, not drifting on a breeze, but actively following them, a malevolent shadow in search of substance. Above the mist, the ceiling was darkness intensified... giving no visual clue to gauge distance or volume of the hallway.

(From the spell description:
“The spell can locate a specific object known to you, as long as you have seen it up close--within 30 feet--at least once. Alternatively, the spell can locate the nearest object of a particular kind, such as a certain kind of apparel, jewelry, furniture, tool, or weapon.”
Meredith has never seen the book, so option 1 won’t work. However, option 2 seems promising. In fact I’ll say that a music box would be a certain kind of book in this case and searchable as such.)

Bell sighs and imitates a duckling following it's siblings behind Momma Duck.

Meredith calls the quill to her hand once more and readies for Erudisia to open the door.

Erudisia shivers, her hand on the doorknob. Singing, she pushes open the door in one sudden motion.
Erudisia SCREAMS.
