Balen shifts uncomfortably in his seat again when Tildrash pats him, "I- I um yeah... yeah. I guess so..."He looks longingly out onto the river. Had he really had gone so far in just one day or only drifted? His mind could not say.
Paddling the canoe alongside Cetar, he smiles. "Heh, yeah true. We don't need none of them men in those high towers,"he says referring to the wizards, "Walk on the wild side, I like it."He tosses both of them some beef jerky he had in his bag. "To Gareth!"
Breathing in the smell of the new landscape, Balen straightens up further, "Yeah, looks like people."He thinks, biting his lower lip. "Since you can't wildshape yet- I was gonna say you turn into a bird or something- so we got to get thinking of a way in. Don't know which type of people- can't choose what to change into yet then either. Yeah stealth is definitely gonna be a key."
"Um, I'd say we pretend to be merchants or at least someone who just be 'traveling through.'" In the blink of an eye (or two pairs), he shapechanges into a half-elf looking man with short brown curly hair. "Got anything to sell?"

Cetar checks his backpack and pockets and says 'No, I've not got anything spare to sell, but I maybe could teach them some things if I need to act like I'm selling something? I'm lacking in any good selling skills, since I'm petrified when it comes to public speaking, but I could offer some more unconventional things like a casting of a spell, or show them some survival or arcane knowledge they could pick up on?' He thinks this plan could work, but wants to play to his strengths; through his druidic tutoring he knows a lot about nature and life in the wilderness, which can always come in handy, and his time in wizarding school has given him a firm understanding of the arcane. Plus, he imagines all the education he's experienced in his life would give him a little bit more of an edge in teaching, even if he's not as charismatic as he'd like. And then there's his spells. Maybe he could ripen some fruit for them or something using druidcraft? For whatever these people are looking for, and more importantly, for whatever keeps the party safe, he can adapt.
He takes out a tattered old note from a teacher he had in wizard school before he left out of his pocket. It's mainly just scolding him, but at the bottom is a question Cetar still hasn't been able to get to the bottom to: 'Why are you like this?' Instead of reading the letter for the hundredth time over, he turns it onto the blank side and uses his ink and quill to write up a quick note of what he can offer. It's shaky to do it on the canoe and he spills some ink, but manages to write:
Cetar Allwood's Adventuring 101 Courses and Services

Hey there guys, I had no idea this thread existed, I was not trying to ditch or anything. I'll reintroduce Jaren when it feels right, again, I apologize.
As you guide your vessels nearer, the source of the smoke becomes clear. A number of men dressed in the simple tunics are setting up a camp just beyond the shoreline. From their boats—three sail boats roughly 12 feet long— they unload barrels. None notice your approach as the approaching darkness of night cloaks you.
Cetar says quietly as the canoe rows in to dock a good 60 odd feet from the men that 'Okay guys, remember our merchant schtick. If we can stick to that we can likely learn a lot from these people with little questions on our side!'
"Teaching 'em?" Balen chews his bottom lip, "Okay, yeah, I like where this is going."Searching through his own bag he comes up short of anything. Other than the book, he had nothing else of interest. "Petrified?"The changeling blinks, looking back over to the druid past his shoulders, "Don't be- I mean like-"He sighs.
"I once was too, hell, kinda always still, but after a while you just get used to it. Scream and shout at random people, sing in public, many times enough, and you realize that people just don't care. They got their own lives to attend to, so whatever you did just there they might actually have found it amusing- a second of their day- it's memorable," he smiles and shrugs, "in a good way."
Returning to his search, sparks flicker in his fingers as he tries to muster some strength to do anything relatively cool. "Ay! Aw."Soon enough they fizzle out. Balen frowns. 'What else can I be selling?' Arcane trickster or not, he's more of a salesman any day.
Looking over at what Cetar produced, he eyes the tattered note and tries to read it quickly, though it's flipped away too fast for him to get any far. He does though catch sight of a few words at the bottom. Balen's gaze turns sadly over to the druid, accidentally knocking over his sketchbook in the process. He reaches over to grab it. Some of Cetar's ink skills onto his hand. Ding.
"Oh! That's right I can draw."A wide thin smile creeps and crawls across his face as you can practically see a lantern light up above his head. "I'll do portraits." Turning his attention back over to Cetar's notes, he sees that the druid has written much more than he'd expected in time.
"Hey, they should write a book about you,"he smiles and comments, "CETAR'S AMAZING SURVIVAL... SHOW! No wait- yeah- a play! If this goes south we can always become traveling bards. Tildrash can play the flute." He finds that last part amusing as that's what he imagines on the rest of the way there to shore.
He crawls out the canoe and onto the dock where he squats; he squints in the darkness. "Lots of men. Unloading barrels. I can't hear what they are saying though, hold up."He scoots a bit closer, putting his hand up to his ear comically.

Jaren shakes himself. He'd been toned out a little bit, but he was back now. "Selling things... I can't do much... besides fight, that is. I could do fencing lessons I guess. Some sort of self defence class. I don't know."
Putting his hand to his ear Balen listens to what the men are saying a gruff voice says “hurry it up you louts! The rest of the men will be here soon, saw boats on the water. Oi Greg! watch where yer setting that. Can’t get the cargo wet,” a short pause before another voice says “quit your yapping Durge it’s only water, and the other men can unload their own boats when they get here what’s the rush.” The first voice —Durge— only gives a Bah in response.
Jaren quickly scribbles down on a piece of paper, "Ever wondered if you would survive a raid? Ever wanted to defend yourself from a mugging but been reduced to cowering? There is an answer! With a simple 3 hour course, you can learn everything you need to defend yourself with one of the following weapons!
-HANDAXE: With an axe in each hand, dash in and out of reach, vexing your opponents and cutting them down.
-QUARTERSTAFF: Wielding nothing but a long rod, dance through the battlefield, deftly toppling your foes.
-GREATCLUB: Powerfully swinging a greatclub, send your enemies flying and win any fight easily
-ANY WEAPON OF YOUR CHOICE: If you bring a certified weapon to the instructor, he will teach you everything you need to know to defend yourself with that weapon.
For just 10gp, you can take a 3 hour course on any of these weapons.
If you want, however, you can take the 3 day course. During this course, the instructor will actually spend an entire day teaching you each one of the above listed weapons, for a small price of 50gp!"
Intentionally using way to much ink, he allows it to seep through several papers and make about 15 copies.
[We've literally became those influencers that sell extortionate courses or dropship items for like triple the price. I love it]
Cetar is pleased to see Jaren perk up, and is impressed by his offers. He whispers 'Wow! Those are some big ticket items! Maybe we might actually make some cash out of this encounter! Best we're not stealthy when we approach in case they spot us, since that would cause suspicion of course, so I say we just get out and politely walk over to offer our services.'
Jaren will approach the people seated around the campfire and shout, "Well met, fellows! I believe that this is a hub for salespeople? May we share your fire?"
Balen shimmies his way back over to the three guys in his canoe. "Alright now we're talking. I'd honestly hit you up with that greatclub offer. It'll be great to start on swinging."Herolls his wrist around then turns to swing with an invisible bat.
"We best be going and yeah no sneaking. They're unloading barrels and more men's coming soon,"he whispers to Jaren, Cetar, and Tildrash. As soon as Jaren approachs soon Balen does follow.
"Hello! Yes! Nice meeting you all fellas," he does a gesture of tipping his hat which he doesn't even have then puts his hand to his chest. "Are you interested in buying anything tonight? How about a portrait? To just capture this moment?" Rather than test his own luck, he does this to help Jaren.
Cetar listens and says 'That's a possibility, but best we try not to act like we're part of them. If we stick to acting like a naive, but friendly, travelling merchant group we can get by and maybe learn some things without causing any reason for dispute!'

You lose your head when you lost your eye?” He speaks calmly but the is anger in his expression. “You’ve still got both your eyes but you must be blind so let me tell ya.
