Khessa proceeds as with the previous sarcophagus... she sends the Army of Darkness ahead to examine the sarcophagus.
If no threat appears, the blonde arcane warrior goes to look for herself.
If the search turns up nothing of interest, the tall adventuress goes to open the previous door, following the same strategy: the still healthy skeleton equipped with a shield is the one who opens, while Khessa and the rest of the Army of Darkness stand ready just a step behind.
We throw them at the undead, yeah. We throw them and we kill them dead.
Oh, we like rocks.”
(Ooc: sung to the tune of Three Blind Mice)
Seeing that Khessa and the skeletons have the room with the sarcophagus under control, Rosebud goes to the corridor behind them to collect some pebbles for future use.
Much of this last room to the west has fallen in, with the debris field mostly burying a stone sarcophagus that appears to be looted years ago. Nothing of interest remains.
"Three rooms with sarcophagi," Khessa summarizes to herself "apparently already looted. I wonder if the authors of the looting are the Cultists or if it is instead the work of adventurers and explorers in a more distant past..."
"...Perhaps this last door to the east will provide us with the answer" the blonde arcane warrior heads towards the last unexplored door. She continues with the last strategy adopted: it is the healthiest and best defended member of the Army of Darkness who physically opens the door. She and the rest of the Army of Darkness remain ready to intervene if necessary.
When KHESSAcommands one of her SKELETON's to open the door, she will see that the walls and floor of this room are covered with streaks and splashes of dried blood. Two dangling bodies are shackled to the east and south walls. One is an elderly male human; the other, a young female tiefling. Both are covered in bloody gashes, and neither is moving. In the middle of the room is a sturdy wooden chair with a bloody whip draped over it. A bucket half filled with salt sits on the floor nearby.
"On second thought," Khessa's blue eyes flash with hatred "maybe there are Cultists here too! This must be their 'fun room', I guess... I'd like to let them have a taste of it themselves!"
The blonde arcane warrior deploys the Army of Darkness to guard the only other exit and approaches to free the two tortured prisoners, asking in the process: "Mistynip... these two poor souls probably need you... if, as I hope, they are still alive. With your magic or your healing art, do you think you can ease their pain a little and restore their strength?"
Rosaline's eyes narrow as the door opens to reveal the broken prisoners... like Khessa, she hopes that they're still alive.
"I'll keep watch at the door while someone more knowledgeable in that field of medicine tends to the unfortunates," she says, her voice surprisingly gentle compared to her normal icy delivery.

Unhappy that the market got rid of individual purchases for one-off subclasses, magic items, and monsters?
Elias will follow Khessa down the hall, fun room? he walks into the entry way and freezes, oh my, as he looks at the sight before them. Feeling this stomach turn and revolt, he covers his mouth and retreats back around the corner and looses his lunch. Wiping his mouth on his sleeve, what kind of barbarians are these that they are able to live right under the noses of civilized people?
MISTYNIP will determine that the elderly male human is dead.
But the young female Tiefling is alive but unconscious. However, the Cleric was able to dress and clean the Tiefling's wounds and in doing so revives the young lass.
The female Tiefling begins to moan and whimper as she becomes conscious.
Rosebud looks up to see her companions moving down the corridor then into the room. The sounds of distress from their findings in the room made her pick up her pace to join them. She enters the room to see Mistynip help the young Tiefling and goes over to assist. Rosebud pulls out some of her rations and water to offer to the victim.
Khessa is clearly torn... "This poor thing needs rest and assistance... And this gloomy dungeon is certainly not the best place for that... Yet, if we were to leave once again to take her to safety, I would not want the remaining Cultists to fully realize the threat and be able either to prevent us from returning or to prepare some deadly ambush!"
"Perhaps..." the blonde arcane warrior desperately tries to find a solution "Should we keep her with us for now, well defended, in the center of the group, and finish 'cleaning' the section ahead of us? If we can do that, then perhaps we can rest undisturbed as long as we need, all together - and once we are at full strength again, we can heal her completely and accompany her to the exit, free to return home! And we will be free to finish the cleaning".
"What do you think?" the tall adventuress's blue eyes, full of concern, seek advice from those of all her fellow adventurers...
REYA will say, "We should unshackle her first." The Paladin notes the girl's bare feet do not touch the ground as her entire weight is supported by her shackled bloody hands and wrist. "Did we find a set of keys?" The party will produce the keys from the Bane Cultist. Sure enough, a pair of keys fits the shackles.
As REYA gets an assist from KHESSA to lower the young girl to the ground, the Paladin asks, "What is your name?"
Shivering the young Tiefling girl responds, "Vendetta. Vendetta Kress." (OOC - Yes. That is the name in the Adventure.)
REYA will rummage through her backpack and pull out her spare shirt and give it to the girl. REYAis large; so, her shirt is almost like a dress to the svelte Tiefling.
Vendetta gratefully takes ROSEBUD'soffer and devours it.
Khessa places a hand on the tiefling's shoulder, taking care to avoid touching any wounds that might hurt her: "Listen to me, Vendetta. You've had to endure so much already. And you didn't deserve any of this. But I must ask you to hold on a little longer. In order to heal you, we need to rest. And in order to rest safely, we need to finish 'clearing' beyond that door. You stay with us and stay in the middle of the group. We won't let anything bad happen to you. We'll finish securing the area, then we'll rest... and then we'll be able to make you good as new! And then we'll escort you to the exit and you'll be free to go on with your life".
More determined than ever to give the unfortunate prisoner the best assistance possible, the blonde arcane warrior orders the Army of Darkness to open the new door and prepares to enter with them.
Elias catches Khessa's eye, motions for her to come near.
Khessa and DM
taking her hand and looking her in the eye with all sincerity, I'm all for helping this person out but I really think we need to be on guard. We've already seen that these three groups don't like one another. Who's to say this lady isn't a member of one of the other cults that just happened to tick off the wrong member of one of the other groups. It might be a good idea to ask Reya or Misty to fall in behind her, you know, incase she may need some urgent healing or a swift mace to the head.
Rosaline is a bit less sure than some of the others about bringing a badly injured civilian further into the depths of this hell... most people assume that the duty of an Inquisitor is to burn witches and torture confessions out of criminals. And... well... that isn't entirely untrue, unfortunately. But Rosaline believes that she has an even more important role.
"Can we really promise that she'll be safe, even with all of us acting as her shields?" Rosaline askes. "If anyone wants my opinion... I think that we should escort her to somewhere safe before we resume exterminating the witches, even if doing so does give the forces of evil an extra hour or two that they can use to prepare for our assault."

REYA considers ROSALINE's suggestion, "We can take her back to the Bathhouse. She can clean up and rest there. Then we can immediately return. That shouldn't take too long."
REYA then whispers to the party, "But why were they torturing her? Just for the fun of it? I don't think so."
REYAwill look at Vendetta, "Why were you being tortured?"
Vendetta will say, "I work for the Oathoon patriar family of Baldur’s Gate, and was attacked in the Lower City, knocked unconscious, and brought here to be tortured. I gave them information on the Oathoons and their security arrangements. I also witnessed the interrogation and death of that old man. He was questioned at length about the Jhasso family."

KHESSA’s ARMY of DARKNESS finds no threats.
KHESSA’s casual search reveals nothing further.
(I am going to wait for other players to catch up.)

Mistynip, of course. Let me take a look at them. She moves over to the two poor souls and evaluates their condition. Medicine 24.
