"That will be an electrum," Alan will say. Later the server brings a wooden platter with enough fish cakes for five. It has a large bowl of a red spicy sauce for dipping. The fish cakes are triangle in shape. They are crispy and firm. Easy to pick up with your hands and dip into the spicy red sauce. (Did you wash your hands? I know Atlas did.)
After receiving the notebook and pen from Elias, Atlas will sketch out what he remembers of the layout of the bathhouse. "I would like to draw special attention to this area," as he points out the secret door that he found. "Everything seems business as usual during the day, as we were told. But I'd wager that whatever goes on at night happens behind that door."
"Thank you so much, Atlas!" Khessa mutters a quick formula while gesturing skillfully with her left hand, whereupon one of the crispy and firm fish cake triangles rises into mid-air, dips itself into the spicy red sauce, then reaches her mouth, at a comfortable height, allowing her to bite into it and enjoy it "Truly delicious!"
"Only one access point..." the blonde arcane warrior assesses the information that the enterprising lone wolf has recovered for the benefit of all "Probably easy to monitor for those inside - but just as easy to monitor for Elias' dear Percy outside! No one will be able to get out of there without Percy seeing them. And at night, no one will be suspicious of the presence of a nocturnal animal. It should be easy to spot one of the Cultists, when he goes out to commit his murders, see where he goes and set a trap for him when he is alone".
"And after we kill him, like I said, I have a spell to take his appearence" the tall adventuress concludes. "That way I can lead you all to the secret door, and when we meet other cultists, I can say that you are old acquaintances of mine who want to join the gang. That way we should be able to take on the remaining cultists a few at a time and surprise them".
"I think it would also be wise to investigate around the outside of the building during the day. If maybe we can find a way to see inside the secret area during the daytime, maybe we can devise a better plan of attack. I would have done it myself, but my best work is done in the shadow of the moon."
Atlas grabs another fish cake and tries this red sauce before him.
Nice! Great work Atlas, and I bet you're right, that secret door has got to lead to someplace important. Possible temple with more than a few worshippers I'd wager. Master Orbos back home has a secret door in his library that leads to a small den, he likes to hide in there smoking his special pipe weed. We're still in the afternoon hours, perhaps a trip around town would allow us to scope the outside of the place out. Elias thinks for a minute, looks over to the Alan the barkeep, master barkeep Alan, I understand you have a rather nice bath house in the area? Who might own that establishment?
The red sauce is both sweet and hot. It burns the mouth a little, but the sensation is pleasing for those that don't mind a bit of fire. The fish cakes are not fishy, but firm and hardy. ATLAS will have heard about them; they are renown in Baldur's Gate.
Alan will look at ELIAS, "My apologies, there are a few Bathhouses in Baldur's Gate, but unfortunately I do not know their owners."
Khessa listened with interest, as another of the delicious fish cake triangles followed the same fate as the first: it rose into the air, dipped itself into the spicy red sauce, then reached her mouth.
After the blonde arcane warrior had eaten that one too, a third fish cake triangle took off and floated invitingly within Raynoir's reach: "You haven't tried them yet..." she asks "Want one? They're delicious! Not as delicious as cabbage, of course, but still very good".
The tall adventuress meanwhile tried to think of a way to see inside the secret area: "We could walk around, while it's still light and it's not dark. The Dead-Three-Cult's secret base might have windows or vents... It depends on how much they value comfort versus secrecy. But if we can't find anything like that to peek through, I'd suggest just waiting until nightfall and setting up the trap... To get in through the secret door, I'd prefer to wait until I look like one of them. If any cultists see us when we're inside, if I look like one of them, they won't be suspicious - and hopefully give me time to tell the lie I've already explained to you (that you want to join the Cult). But if any cultists see us in the base now, while we're all unfamiliar faces, they're almost certain to attack us or raise the alarm".
"My only concern with walking around the building during the day is how conspicuous it would be. What if the employees of the bathhouse are cultist themselves? I would bet on it. But if we were to "tour the city" and allow the wizards little pet to search the outside of the building for us... No one would think twice about a wild bird flying around."
then it's settled? Say, lets make our way to the Sorcerous Sundries, I can pick up that package I was sent for. I believe it's also here in the lower city and we can take the long way around to swing by the bath house.
"Yes, settled!" Khessa smiles, searching with her fingers for those of the young mage. Her blue eyes pass trustingly over those of all the companions of adventure that she has met so recently but in whom she has already learned to trust so much... Tazzavur, Raynoir, Atlas, Elias... Different characters, different talents, but combined together, they have already achieved so much...
The blonde arcane warrior can't wait to put an end to the indiscriminate murders of this band of Cultists. Life in Baldur's Gate seems hard enough, without helpless common folk having to wonder every night if an exalted Cultist will come looking for them, thirsty for blood.
Sorceress Sundries is not far from the Elfsong Tavern. (Baldur's Gate Map updated.) A dome of stained-glass roofs this tall, round shop, casting chaotic shafts of color down across several open-air floors that rise upon wooden pillars, connected by staircases and ladders. Inside behind a massive counter is a male human in clothes typical of a Mage. You will notice he has a blackened left hand. He looks directly at ELIAS, "How can I help you young Wizard."
[OOC - We have not had posts from Raynoir (4 days) or Tazzavur (2 days) in a while.]
Good greetings master mage, I am apprentice Elias, my master, Orbos, Silversword house wizard of Waterdeep, has sent me to pickup a prearranged order of components. Would those be ready?
Khessa is seeing a shop like this for the first time in her life and she was staring around with her mouth open, delighted and amazed at the same time...
...But hearing the young wizard speak, the blonde arcane warrior tries to compose herself and goes back to his side (also out of curiosity to peek at what the order consists of).
[OOC: Apologies, I was away at a conference that disallowed electronic devices :-) - but I am back now]
Brother Ray, was enjoying siting in the booth, essentially people watching, oddly enough this gives me joy.
As the rest of his fav team arrive he listened and watched as this amazing looking food turns up.... "spicy fish sauce.. thats different", he says to no one in particular. Atlas turns up like the conquering hero, Ray chuckles, "I like that one"again to no one in particular. The Company begins to talk about strategy and watching the twoing and frowing was a lot of fun, gosh Khessa is passionate he thinks, he loves her passion and Atlas the tactician, smart one there. He's food arrives and he gets stuck in, he's pretty hungry, its really tough work keeping up.
But he's content and as he continues to think about his place in the company, he ponders what he can do and do well, 'I heal and I protect and if I can be when required my gods diplomat then thats a good thing for me and something I add positively to the success of these amazing people', he says t no one one in particular...
Raynoir or Brother Ray says to the group, "I like the plan, it's very well thought out".
While Elias is in the middle of his dealings Atlas will case the store for a potential future return for potential profitable reasons. He is looking around for all possible entry points and any seemingly expensive goods.
[What do you want me to roll in this case? Some say investigation, some say perception... whatever you want.]
(@Atlas - Investigation and Perception both provide different results.)
"Orbos, yes, yes, I have his package somewhere around here," he looks under the massive counter in the center of this vast domed structured. You hear moving of papers, boxes, bottles, etc. This goes on for a while, until you hear, "Here it is!" He pulls out something thoroughly wrapped in a heavy brown paper, "Now remember do not open it. It is only for Orbos." (Map in OOC thread.)
