Finding it difficult to read with the choppier conditions, Thagal spends the Day on the forecastle with the vulture watching the ocean and taking an interest in a chain of nearby rocky island outcroppings.
Hotep gives Eclipse some orders to ensure the men are prepared in case of battle. He tells the Tabaxi that they are near the “ Whale Bones” islets. An area known for many types of dangerous critters from giant Rocs, other pirates, Storm Giants and often times other pirate vessels looking for easy pay days. He sends you about your duties.
( detail what Eclipse does to prep the ship and crew)
Zerk has gotten his food prep done for the day and an accurate and updated inventory which he was excited to deliver to the quartermaster personally. Lagazara, recognized the tell take signs of infatuation took full advantage of poor Zerks expectations. Pouring on a sultry attitude and stringing him along, though his ambition was hopeless. She knew well that it could be an advantageous card to play at a later date. She heaped praises on his culinary skill, minor as it was and commended his record keeping before dismissing him. Sinmana watched the interaction in secret with amusement. Her sister was like a cat, playing with its food.
Eclipse’s singing isnt to terrible, but doesn’t quite blend as well into Kels masterful playing. It doesnt harm anything and the crew are still having a good time.
Eclipse’s attention is only half on the singing. He drops words now and then, turns verses around, and though in good humor, his blase attitude is slightly off-putting. When he realizes Kel would do just as well without him, he applauds the kobold with a wink, then re-dons his jacket, which he had removed for the performance, and continues his duties.
Everyone seems so pleased, he notices, including himself. And it is in response to this awareness that his worst instincts kick in. His eyes take on an opaque, hard quality and become shifty and mischievous, reflecting his mood. Everyone’s guard is down… how can I take advantage of the situation?, and plans begin to brew as a shadow edges over his heart.

Before Eclipse can move too far down the lonely lane of self-interested self-destruction, the weather changes, and Hotep’s orders give him something else to consider.
“Aye aye, Mr. Hotep,” he answers crisply, though in his heart he rebels against the command. Still, his welfare depends, for the moment, on the welfare of everyone onboard, and on the fate of the Gallows Dancer. Harnessing the entropic energy which had been plaguing him, the tabaxi moves adroitly through the ship, keeping his balance effortlessly in the choppy waters and piercing the crew’s hubbub with orders of his own.
“All right my hardy friends, all hands alert and ready. Whale Bone Islets are within sight off the fore bow and you know what that means. Pirates! And not those cuddling in the cot beside you, gentlemen, no! Those that’ll give you no quarter! Aye, and high wheeling birds of legend, wings spanning the length of the Dancer, and giants, as tall as the main mast! I kid you not, my hardy friends. So ready yourselves, dust off your shipboard armor and oil your blades. Perhaps they’ll see us coming and flee to the far horizon as well they ought to! But if we must join battle? Show them, show them all: the crew of the Gallows Dancer will send to the gallows whatever stands, flies, or floats in their way, and then we’ll show them dancing too, as they drift down to the endless wide of elemental water and breathe the air no more. Avast ye! Get yourselves ready my hardy friends!,” and so on. (Persuasion: Crit! 25)
In the meantime, as he passes through the ship, he tries to remember Hotep’s instructions and keeps a careful eye on the bulwarks and joints and any weak spots or areas that have recently been repaired, especially now that they are in rougher waters. (Investigation: 11+3=14)
Everything seems to be in order down below decks and as you get ready to return topside Sinmana appears next to you, seemingly out of nowhere. “ Keep an extra sspecial watch out, ssomthing feelssss off” and then she slips past you to the upper deck.
once topsides everyone can feel the water exerting a bit of extra force from the port side. The weather remains unchanged, yet the water current seems to defy the wind direction, moving opposite of normal
240 nautical miles traveled over two days, even with the minor delay caused by the sea elf sighting.
wind direction and speed: winds are heading due North, with some stronger gusts and the sea is becoming a little rougher. Sinmana updates the Captain on the changing conditions and the helmsman is ordered to maintain course and heading. Daeric the Master rigger directs Throgg to adjust sails for closed hauled sailing into the wind.
Eclipse, after making his rounds below deck, heads topside and finds Sinmana. “Any idea what could be causing the waters to behave like this?,” he asks. He peers at the waters himself. Does the unexpected current seem to be pushing the ship off course? (Perception: 7+5=12)

Throgg was a little slow on the ropes this morning and had a few lines get tangled in the process, but the Master Rigger stepped in where required to show him a few tricks of the trade and all was handled successfully. With this course of sail the speed has been reduced a few knots cutting about 20 miles off the day’s progress.
Kel would be on the watchtower for a bit he would be looking out to the ocean seeing if anything was wrong or if he detected anything.

Kel puts the crows nest looking glass to his eye to gain a better view. A few miles south east ( near the direction the ship is heading) he spots the water doing something strange. It seems to be swirling about into what from here seems like a hole in the ocean. This seems to be the source of the strange current beginning to affect the ship.

The current isnt strong enough to overcome the ship’s progress as of yet. The helmsman and the close hauld sails are keeping the course true
Sinmana heads to the top deck to observe the current
Kel's smile turned into a look of confusion and stress he would then look at the crew and yell "Whirlpool!!" He would point in its direction while continuing to yell the message.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Hearing Kel yell whirlpool, Hotep will immediately ring the all hands bell. Sinmana Lagazara will join the Captain as he takes over at the helm. After a a bit of discussion they agree the whales would be the best option to veer out of he whirlpools grip. They Order sails adjusted for max sail as the captain and helmsman crank on the wheel.
For a moment, it had felt as if it was too late, that the whirlpools pull had grabbed a hold, but with the while crew doing their duties the Gallows Dancer broke free of the strange current and moved closer to the teeth like islands. All hands remained on deck and alert for trouble. The crewmen who knew these waters silently praying no Storm Giants or dragons were about
Eclipse finds Hotep. The tabaxi’s manner flashes with the edge of a sharp knife, eyes piercing, posture taut and ready.“We seem to have escaped its pull… have you seen such a thing in these waters before? I assume it’s not on Sinmana’s charts, or we would have adopted a different heading to begin with. Could it be a spell? Or the deathly whim of some demigod”
Hotep says, “ no, the whirlpool is not a feature of these waters. Something has caused this aberration, either magic or Beast….A very large beast…maybe the Sea elf knew something, though he was many miles ago.”
The ship travels another hour or so towards the white rocky shores of whale bones and the Captain orders the sails hauled in except for the small sprit sail to provide just enough forward movement to keep steering. Soon one of the crewmen announce “ Ship Ho! 35 degrees off the port bow!”
the Captain pops out his glass and can see it is a merchant ship. A large one, ams also hailing from Calimshan. Fairly odd coincidence. He notices the ship os anchored off one of the islands so he steers the ship in between two of the larger islets, a couple miles away from the merchant.
the order to weigh anchor is given and The Bosun directs all officers and mates to the Captain’s quarters.
Throgg hears the call of the whirlpool threat. With deft hands and quick action he hurries over to Hotep. Once the decision was made to open wide the sails he hurries from one to the other, deftly undoing and retying knots. The sails opened just in time to catch a strong crosswind.
As they make anchor he joins the rest of the group in the Captain’s Quarters to hear what they plan for the merchant ship and the strangeness around them.
Kel's knees would wobble a bit as he felt the boat jeer away from the whirlpool, he would be gripping onto the pole of the place he stood, he would be crying out, he was clearly to scared to come down.
