While checking out the ship and crewmates Eclipse will spot Lagazara…or what looks closely like Lagazra but has some distinctive differences. This woman has no legs but a long serpents lower body. They are clearly related in some way. This woman moves quicker than expected and meets the tabaxi mid ship.
” Welcome to the crew, I am SSinmana ships Navigator. I am glad to see Hotep finally get some competent help. Itsss a big ship for one man to monitor.”
“Thank you,” Eclipse says, “and it’s a big ship to navigate too, I imagine,” he fumbles. Are they were-snakes? How could a snake-woman be related to a lizard person. Isn’t the biology different? The tabaxi knows nothing of yuan-ti and finds the slithering form to be nightmarish. Some primal part of him imagines his body held in place by the twisting coils as his head is slowly engulfed by a gaping, sabre-toothed maw. One eye twitches above his relaxed smile as he attempts to settle his curiosity.
”Erm, you… look so familiar. Have we… met before?”
“ you probably are thinking of my Sssister Lagazara, the Quartermaster. Ssshe hass legs, like most. SShe is pure-blood Yuan-ti, and I a product of a father’sss indiscretion “
Eclipse thinks of the sheer number of indiscretions that have made up his life to date and can only offer a weak attempt at a consoling smile in response.
”Well, that makes perfect sense.” He makes a very small bow and excuses himself.
the tabaxi spots the bard briefly on his way to the deck. He played well last night…
Soon the time comes to set sail and the Captain takes his place at the helm and the officers and mates take up their positions. Captain Naraan calls out the commands,
“ haul in the gang plank! Cast off the dock lines! Hoist the main sail!”
Throgg gets to work on pulling the main sheets the open the sail to the favorable wind, the mixed crew of sailors all, scurrying about their tasks and the ship lunges forward as the wind catches canvas. The salt air feels great and the fog seems to break and melt away soon as the Gallows Dancer begins to move. Within a few moments, you are out of the harbor, beyond the rocks and reefs and the tree like Tower of the Arcane fades from view..
After the course gets locked in and the launch was successful, the Captain congratulates everyone on a good job and informs everyone the first stop with be Gwynneth Island in the Moonshae chain, a 10 days journey. He tells everyone the First Mate is there and has secured a shipment of the Moonshae’s finest spiced rum. That information draws cheers from most of the crew as Moonshae Rum is considered the finest in the known world and everyone will get their share.
Throgg cheers along with the others, the first day and already they get a little something extra. This is a good ship, with a good captain. His job complete with the sail, he moves to the bow and lets the wind blow his fur, the salty spray coating him in a fine mist each time the ship crashes down from a wave. A big smile breaks out on his face. This is what he was meant for and missed desperately. Looking back he surveys his new crewmates approvingly. "So far so good", he thinks.
After the preparations where complete and the ship had set sail, a very sick Kel would be lying in the common area of the ship, he could feel the ocean churn even if it wasnt bad. He would distract himself by playing a few notes on his lute.
Thinking he will meet some more of the crew, Throgg heads down to their quarters. Upon entering he hears a faint musical tune under the clamor. It sounds nice. Throgg always likes music, it helps the dreary days go by faster. Moving towards the sound he sees a little Kobold with a lute. "Hello little Kobold. Me Throgg. I like your music, can you play more loud?" (OOC - I don't think we've met yet? If we have then just adjust to Throgg saying, "hello again" or something)
The kobold face was that of a faint green, the small kobold would look up at the bugbear before giving a faint grin, he didn't really have much confidence in his playing abilities "you really want me to play?" He would start playing a tune which was loud enough to fill the cabin.
As Kel plays a little louder, other crewmen start hanging out in the open space. At least the crewmen not attending to duties of course. But the music fills the ship and those still working find themselves working at a better pace with the accompaniment and overall everyone on the ship feels a deep sense of satisfaction. A good launch, a good crew and a great Captain. The gallows dancer herself seems to groove to the music and makes good time with favorable winds.
Zerk will work hard in the galley churning out the midday meal of chowder and biscuits. Was one of the easiest recipes and marked in the galley books as one of the most popular. He found it easy and tasty with the fresh supplies from Luskan. Dinner might be more challenging, but the Bosun told him near the evening the crew would haul in drag nets which may or may not have fresh fish. If a good catch, its easy enough to roast up a bunch of fish.
Day 1- ( midday to evening: post some of your doings if desired)
weather: fair. Clear skies winds: favorable, out of the north. encounters: a few passing merchant vessels, some longships heading to the North. Many smaller fishing vessels.
Thagal would stand on the foredeck with Goermond the vulture and take in the scenery. Ocean as far as the eye can see. He had never gone this far from the shore before snd never on such a large vessel. He wondered about the apparent lack of armaments aboard this ship. No ballistas or catapults like other ships he had seen…how does one conduct piracy operations without such siege equipment? He also noted the ship was flying the colors of a waterdeep vessel rather than it’s regular flag. Luskan is more tolerant of pirates than the other towns, so this must be a safer bet..in the salt air he updated his benefactor on his progress and current course of activities via Goermond. The Vulture served both as companion, and overseer. A strange arrangement, but profitable nonetheless. He often wondered when he would learn the name and even get to meet the source of his budding powers. Would it be a great or terrible day?
“I‘m the Rigger’s Mate” Throgg says with pride. “Sails go up and sails come down. Ropes need tying and no fraying or else sail doesn’t work and boat doesn’t move. My job is to make sure all ropes and sails work good.”
“What is your name and job? Besides good music playing?”
"Well- im kel, i was mostly hired to be the ships entertainer- but i also act as just an ordinary ship- worker." He would raise his small pawlike hand to you for a handshake.
Kel would put hos hand down after shaking yours. "Well want to explore the ship with me?" His kobold tail seemed to shake a bit indicating some excitement.
“Yes, knowing ship is worth the time. Every ship is different and you don’t want to get lost when important things are happening. I knew this elf, he joined ship and accidentally walked into captain room while captain was entertaining.” Throgg laughs uproariously at the memory. “Stupid elf got thrown overboard… luckily for elf we had just left land and you could still see it far away. If he was good swimmer, he could get to land again.”
As the moment of departure approaches, Eclipse stands at the port side gunwale, drumming his fingers. He nods officiously to captain and mates that he notices, and shouts a few cheerful tunings and exhortations to crew if he notices any laggards doing nothing useful — a pastime he will keep for himself in private. But his eye casts anxiously along Luskan’s waterfront and the pier, imagining at any moment pursuers from House Prentiss rightfully appearing to demand repayment of the gold he absconded with and spent to the last copper.
His breath catches as he thinks he recognizes one of them asking questions of the dock foreman a few minutes after the Gallow Dancer casts off. Too late, the tabaxi grins.
When the breeze snaps the sails full and the ship breaks away from the coast, he hoots with relief and love of life, and feeling very full of himself, follows the crewmen meandering to find the source of the music.
“Kel, is it?,” he interjects when Throgg introduces himself. The tabaxi nods to Throgg, and continues in good cheer. “Why allow me to show you both around. As Bosun’s Mate, few know the ship as well as I do,” he boasts, though also setting himself a little test to correctly name the various parts and areas that Hotep had so recently taught him.
“Eclipse,” he says, holding out a hand. “Eclipse Faraway.” The semi-circle of white fur around his left eye offer a cue as to why he may have been thus named.

Throgg let’s out a deep rumble of a laugh.
”That’s good, that’s good!” He doesn’t dance, but kind of sways in place, his arms hanging limp at his sides swinging like pendulums.

Kel was suprised by this, he hoped he wasnt thrown overboard, he would give a light chuckle at the bugbear's story and knew they would be get along.
