I'd say we went on as far as we could after the bridge before we had to stop for the camp. On the other side, I don't think we would venture too far away from the road as we have to worry about the cart and the beasts. Moving the cart on the road is tough work and I guess no one wants to drag it off and on again far enough for it to matter.

Kaelen: While you are in your third hour of trance, you hear twigs breaking and you see many figures just outside the light of your fire. Mathias is awake and on watch but does not seem to notice them. You are pretty sure from what you can make out, they are goblins, and they have drawn bows.

Kaelen’s eyes snap open mid-trance. Without a sound, he rises and shadows bloom around him as he invokes the Blessing of the Raven Queen, vanishing in a swirl of mist and reappearing in a crouch directly among the archers. Blades flash in either hand—scimitar in one, shortsword in the other—as he lashes out at the nearest goblin with swift, brutal strikes. He doesn’t shout, trusting the sudden violence and shrieks of surprise to rouse the others.
Bonus Action: Blessing of the Raven Queen
Action: shortsword to hit 15, damage 7 and vex. Scimitar (Nick) to hit w advantage 21, damage 6.
Okay, couple of details, 1. I roll initiative, not the players. 2. I don't always use grid maps but I think it helps here. 3. I forgot to mention this but I count diagonals on maps 3e style. first diagonal costs 1, second diagonal costs 2, third 1, fourth 2... I AM REVISING THIS
I will be posting the results of your actions in a new post as I realized I was badly handling it.
Player Group 1: Asleep - Torban, Arista, Asariel Trance - Kaelen
Enemy Group
Player Group 2: Awake but not immediately aware of combat - Mathias Asleep - Brekka
Kaelen sees and hears the goblins and silently moves to the nearest archer and slices him to ribbons.
[[We need to have a talk about the order or actions with the nick weapon mastery but that can wait]]
Arista and Asariel must make a DC 20 Perception check with disadvantage to be woken by Kaelen's attempts to silently dispatch the enemies without disturbing the party's slumber. Torban has already rolled and is snoring away.
Arista and Asariel can take actions if they wake up.
Brekka should make the DC20 with Disadvantage perception roll to wake up, but rolled lower in initiative so cannot yet take actions.
Mathias is now aware of his surroundings and can do things that do not require actions.
((Sounds good to me!))
(I'm fine with the rotation, too)

Fine by me
After joining more my signature got out of hand so I am now a proud member of the extended signature club!! :)
I would add that we can keep it as default, so that we don't need to poll for each long rest.

Yeah it's fine with me.
Okay, your ready to make camp. Feel free to do any inter-party discussions.
I do need to know where you are looking to camp, how near to or far from the bridge/river/road.

[[Agree with cyreon's thoughts]]
((Also agree.))
((Agreed.))
You make camp and many of you begin to sleep.
Kaelen and Mathias: Please give me a DC 20 Perception check. (They blew past your passive.)

(Oh...I guess he will just try to wake the others up then.)
Okay, so here is initiative:
Player Group 1:
Asleep - Torban, Arista, Asariel
Trance - Kaelen
Enemy Group
Player Group 2:
Awake but not immediately aware of combat - Mathias
Asleep - Brekka
Kaelen sees and hears the goblins and silently moves to the nearest archer and slices him to ribbons.

((Brekka can't meet that DC so he is very much still asleep.))
So, to be clear, Kaelen will ONLY try to wake other people up if he was not able to kill the one goblin.
