With a soft smile, the druid offers, "Either way, we'll be ready for it." Before magically conjuring the nourishing berries again and distributing them to the members of the party. "Just in case."he says with a small grin.
Kaelen will ritual cast both detect poison and disease and alarm at the point they are leaving from, just in case. If he gets a mental ping, they'll at least know that something could be following them until they get 1 mile away.
((Ok, Brekka can have the shield. It would hinder Kaelen's archery/two weapon fighting. Kaelen will equip the breastplate and add his studded leather to the cart. Anyone else can have it if they want.))
[Arista changes a few spells for the level up. She removes Sword Burst for True Strike. Then she selects Healing word for her background druid spell, taking the home-brewed Spiny Shield as one of her normal level up spell selection, and takes a new first level spell, Feather Fall, as second choice for the odd situation that that is useful. She got Transmuted Spell and Distant Spell for her Metamagic, though I'm unsure about the second one (Suggestions?).]
Arista is ready to hit the road again. She will be helping to clear the path and keep the cart moving. (Athletics: 24)
The day passes uneventfully, actually. Travel is good, you supplies hold out. Nice weather, it's rather invigorating actually.
Based on your travel expectation, you would expect to reach the keep day after tomorrow, possibly late tomorrow if you pushed.
The terrain is getting hillier, and as you begin looking for a place to spend the night, you find a sturdy cave a short walk from the road. It looks like rain is coming again, overnight. The cave is big enough for all of you to sleep in, or you could fit the horse and cart, or the cart and 3 people or something like that.
I am once again requesting a pair of d6 rolls for events this evening.

There is a spring in Brekka's step when they finally pull in for the night. The invigorating day of travel has left him energised and excited for the next leg of the journey. The anticipation of arriving at the keep builds and keeps his mood light.
"An excellent day, friends!" he rumbles in his gruff voice.
He helps to set up their camp in and around the cave.
"I don't mind sleeping outside so we can get the horse and cart inside."
Kaelen nods in agreement with Brekka. "I think that would be best. It is what we brought the tents for, after all. Not to mention if anything were to attack us, I'd rather not be pinned in the cave."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Arista pads a cautious circuit just inside the mouth of the cave, staff tapping the rock while her eyes adjust to the gloom; she crouches to study the floor for claw prints, old ashes, or droppings, then runs a palm along the walls, seeking tell-tale air currents that might hint at a hidden tunnel farther in. Satisfied only when she’s checked every nook and listened for distant echoes, she returns to the group with a quiet nod—or a terse warning if she’s found any sign the cave is already claimed. (Survival: 7)

Asariel will give bardic inspiration to Arista when she starts investigating (d6 to use on a failed check). He then sees if the horse would be willing to go in the cave
You find a handle of a very old camp pot sticking out of a pile of rocks and earth near the ancient remains of a fire pit.
This prompts you to dig a little bit and you find a discarded dagger, a fraying coin purse, and a small journal, fragile with age. The dagger is usable, but has some surface corrosion. The purse contains 5 gp, 14 sp, and 30 cp.

You spend some time inspecting the armor and shield. You discover they are a set of breastplate armor of gleaming and a sentinel shield.

There is some fairly obvious very old signs that this cave may have been used as a convenient spot to camp.
I'd want an investigate check to gain that sort of info.
