The holy city of Elturel has disappeared from the Forgotten Realms and descended into Avernus, the first layer of the Nine Hells. This event came about as the result of an infernal bargain between the archdevil Zariel, who rules Avernus, and the treacherous High Overseer of Elturel, Thavius Kreeg. Zariel is capturing cities and using their citizens as fodder in the ongoing conflict between demons and devils known as the Blood War. Next on Zariel’s list of cities is Elturel’s neighbor, Baldur’s Gate. The characters can be the heroes who descend into Avernus, save Elturel from certain destruction, and prevent a similar fate from befalling Baldur’s Gate.
Hey there, everyone. This is a campaign I've wanted to run for a while. Before I get into the application information, I'll tell you a bit about myself. I've run campaigns on the site before, but they did end prematurely. Things came up in my life that prevented me from dedicating the time required. I'm fortunate right now to be much more stable in my life, and so I plan to run this campaign as long as I can, hopefully to completion.

Appearance: Skold is on the small size, standing just over 4 feet tall. But, you know, he looks like a bipedal turtle. He appears much older than his 20 years. He's quicker than he looks, and surprisingly nimble.
Personality Traits (2): Skold believes that life and death are inseparable: 2 sides of the same coin. In fact, the spell "Wither and Bloom" is a good analogy for Skold's life philosophy: Life and Death intertwined.
Skold takes a "Zen" approach to most things, not getting too emotional about much of anything - meeting most situations with a serene calm.
Ideal: Skold believes that nature has an order, that death is an inevitable part of life, and that happiness comes from accepting that fact and living within the natural order of things.
Bond: Skold loves animals of all kinds, but is especially fascinated by bugs, although he will usually eat them.
Flaw: Skold is a bit squeamish when it comes to blood. He doesn't like to use weapons, or even spells, that cause piercing or slashing damage if he doesn't have to.
Backstory: Skold really couldn't tell you where he was born, although he's sure that he could find his way back to it - the exact location is always in the back of his mind like a beacon. It anchors him in the world so that he never feels lost, even if he doesn't know where he is. But he doesn't see any reason to go back to his birth place - why would he? He's already been there. And just as soon as he was old enough to fend for himself, he set out to see the REST of the world, and there's still so much more that he hasn't seen yet. The whole world is his home and he's fascinated by the sights there are to see, the cultures there are to experience and all the wonderful creatures - from this plane or others - that inhabit the world alongside him.

Appearance: Naturally tanned skin from birth which looks pale from limited access to the sun. Striking, unnaturally silver hair and grey eyes, like the color has been leached from both. He bares what, at first, look like scars but are actually arcane inscriptions etched into his face by his former master for some unknown reason. The intense, piercing look in his eyes is contrasted by the soft, welcoming tone in his voice and the light, airy spring in his step.
Alignment: Chaotic Good
Personality Traits (2): I think anyone who’s nice to me is hiding evil intent and I don’t like to bathe (too vulnerable).
Ideal: Aspiration. I’m going to prove that I’m worthy of a better life.

Backstory: When his parents put him in the care of the Master Sephiran, Mage of Waterdeep, as his one and only apprentice, they were told he would receive an education unlike any he'd ever hope to receive elsewhere. The wizard did not lie about that... In addition to the fundamentals of arcane knowledge that were relentlessly drilled into him in order to fulfill his daily chores, Wendyl received quite an education in how to read cruel wizard's temperament when he came back from a day in his laboratory... how to dress a wound from a fire bolt slung in a fit of temper when his evening supper had too much or too little salt.
It was more of an education than he bargained for, and a great deal more than he preferred. So, the young halfling took it upon himself to end his "employment" by teaching himself a few basic cantrips while the wizard slept, copying a few spells into his own makeshift spell book, then sneaking off in the dead of night. He's spent the past year living in the shadows, looking over his shoulders, avoiding anything that might bring him into the wizards awareness through a divination spell. It's worked so far. Either luck's been on his side. The wizard had no interest to pursue him... or the spell caster means to exact his retribution at a later day. Only time will tell. In the meantime, Wendyl has spent every spare moment sharpening his skills in hopes of gaining the power he needs to protect himself from the Wizard should he ever come to collect his wayward student.
Personality Traits (2): Vorais is naturally shy and retiring, but forces himself to wear a confident, exuberant mask. He trusts quickly, especially those who play on his insecurities.
Ideal: He strives to be worthy of his divine heritage.
Bond: Vorais's brother is his hero and he wears his brother's holy symbol.
Flaw: He has a constant need to prove himself and seeks validation from others.
Backstory: Vorais was born touched by the divine, a relic of celestial blood in their family. This celestial heritage was obvious at his birth, therefore much was expected of him. He spent his youth in the service of a template to Lathander in Baldur's Gate, priming him for a life of living in the light.
But Vorais's has ever lived in the shadow cast by his older brother. Kelindyr Fonar, though born a normal human boy many years before Vorais, is a faithful and mighty cleric of Lathander who dedicates his life to pushing back the darkness. Tragically, he was in Elturel when it disappeared, so now it falls to Vorais to fill the shoes left by his older brother, and maybe even bring him home.

Personality Traits: I would rather make a new friend than a new enemy. I don’t pay attention to the risks in a situation. Never tell me the odds. The best way to get me to do something is to tell me I can’t do it.
Ideals: People. I’m loyal to my friends, not to any ideals, and everyone else can take a trip down the Styx for all I care. (Neutral) Well... perhaps not that... Redemption. There’s a spark of good in everyone. (Good)
Bonds: I will earn the trust of the Harpers and become a true Faction Agent. Not some disposable asset. I am ready.
Flaws: I think that I can talk my way out of anything (whether I can or not). I don't always appreciate the risks.
Backstory: Lyra Ravenscale's prize possession is a dull black harmonica which always hangs at her throat. Found during childhood, it is the source of her magic. Stains her lips like dark lipstick. Through this instrument, she has made what at first was an unwitting pact with the Raven Queen. A mysterious, chaotic neutral demigod of Shadowfell, also represented in her black warhammer hanging, seemingly too heavy for Lyra, at her hip.
Youngest child of a small merchant family and orphaned at an early age, Lyra ran off from her elven grandmother's home near Silverymoon as soon as she was of age. Using the fey gifts she had learned along with her considerable charm and eloquence, she soon found employment in Waterdeep, the City of Splendors, first as an agent, spy and bounty hunter for the rich. And eventually as an asset for the Harpers, though too mercurial to be considered a true faction agent.
Until now. Why did they choose her to be the one to go south? The tales out of Elturel and Baldur's Gate sounded too fanciful to credit. Archdevils and Blood Wars and entire cities sinking down into...
She shrugs and plays a lively riff on her dark harmonica. Adventure is always the better reason anyway, and Lyra... Lyra believes with the unshakeable certainty of the young that she can talk her way out of anything.

Personality Traits (2): Cute Goth. Always soft spoken, Threnody appears kindly, charming and gentle at first glance, despite her fondness for foreboding black apparel and obvious infernal heritage. It's only when people get to know her that they see beneath the placid exterior - a fury that cannot be quenched.
Cynical Empathetic. She expects the worst of people, and feels tremendous compassion for those who have suffered.
Ideal: Retribution. The wicked must taste the cruelties they have inflicted upon the forsaken and down-trodden.
Bond: Family. Threnody has a twin brother, but she has no idea where he is. One day, she prays she'll see him again.
Flaw: Addiction. Threnody is too enamored of wine, beer, and other intoxicants.
Backstory:
Threnody's early life was happy and unremarkable. The daughter of a priestess of Oghma, she lived contentedly in Candlekeep with her twin brother, Esurience, making petty mischief as children do. That all changed forever when the devil father she'd never known made himself known in their lives.
Krazztus was a high-ranking incubus lord in the hierarchy of the Nine Hells, yet filled with ambitions for things greater. Desperate to get his hands on a forbidden tome locked away in the library of Candlekeep, he deceived and seduced an Oghman priestess into providing him with access to the text that would help him ascend. Threnody and Esurience were the product of that deceitful union, but Alanna loved her children nonetheless. When Krazztus reappeared years later, he claimed he had left something of value within his progeny and kidnapped Esurience. Alanna never recovered from having her child ripped from her arms, and died of a broken heart not long after.
Many years have passed since then. Although Threnody appears composed and charming on the surface, the wound of her brother's abduction and the trauma it inflicted upon her mother has never really healed. Unable to set scores right in her own life by saving her brother who was stolen away to the Nine Hells for ends unknown, she swore an oath of vengeance for others, seeking retribution for the wronged, bringing justice where the legal authorities could not or would not. In time, she took up the profession of a bounty hunter and fixer in Baldur's Gate, sometimes meting out amusing, poetic humiliations for small wrongs, while inflicting terrible, hideous fates for serious felonies.
Appearance: Kaster is an average halfling and all in all pretty unremarkable in every way. The most remarkable thing about him isn't about him at all, but rather about the big, brutish mastiff that Kaster uses to ride around the Halfling villages upon to meet with the parishioners...
Alignment: Neutral Good. Really only not lawful because the halflings are a bit carefree about laws and such, more concerned about what is right and proper than written down laws.
Personality Traits (2):
I’ve spent so long in the temple and the faith that I have little practical experience dealing with people in the outside world.
I see omens in every event and action. I don't understand them, but I see them. The gods try to speak to us, I just wish I knew how to listen.
Ideal:
Aspiration. I seek to prove myself worthy of my god’s favor by matching my actions against his or her teachings. It is hard though for I am a coward and I fear my god asks too much of me.
Bond:
I will do anything to protect the temple where I served. Or, you know, I would like to. I just don't know if I actually could bring myself to do it...
Flaw:
I am a coward who finds comfort in the church and the faith since it does not ask much of me. Now, however? Nominating me to represent the faith and to find out what happened to Elturel? Surely someone will see I am the wrong choice before this all goes too far... Surely!
Backstory:
Kaster Cloverpot comes from a long line of Cloverpots who have all had very good and proper halfling reputations! Kaster, truthfully, is not very religious himself but being a late born son to a rather prolific family, there was not much left to inherit property or profession wise. But the clergy are always respected and always needed... And it never seemed all that strenuous. Such it was that Kaster found himself a sect that wasn't overly strict on the social rules and set about leading a quiet and proper life. He thought.
Kaster had just fallen into a nice, quaint routine when all the business with Elturel got stirred up. His sect decided to send a representative to see what was going on and if they could be of any aid and assistance. It was only right on proper. Kaster voted in favor of it himself, he did. Never in a thousand thousand seasons did he think that it would be his name proposed to be the representative! Why he had hardly ever even ventured farther than the vineyards on the outskirts! And only then to collect the wine for the ceremonies and all... This can't really be happening, can it? Surely there is some mistake! Surely those in Baldur's Gate will have no use for such an average Halfling with such little to offer... Surely!
((If allowed, Kaster will be selling the Scale Mail that comes standard equipment so he can buy the Mastiff he rides around on. Kaster most definitely is not one of those front line, get into the melee type of clerics! He will be hiding in the middle of everyone else hoping not to be noticed, only scurrying about to heal the wounded when absolutely necessary... At least early on.))

Peter Falden is a middle aged halfling who had been employed with the harpers for quite some time to spy on various marks throughout his career. He ingratiated himself into the thieves guild to make his spying easier as the guild's list of contacts was long. Peter's undercover name was Brock Black Beard or Bees for short. While working a particularly long case, Peter fell in love with his mark. Her name was Emma and she was the most beautiful halfling in all the world. She worked with the guild as a distraction for con jobs.
While Peter and Emma were hanging out she found Peter's Harpers pin which he believed was always kept hidden. She confronted him about it, but saw right through his denials. She told him to leave and never come back. He refused unless she agreed to come with him. His argument was persuasive and she agreed. While preparing to escape, the guild found them out and worked swiftly to tie up their loose ends. You don't quit the guild after all, the guild quits you. She must have loved Peter as well because she sacrificed herself to save him. He relived the moment a thousand times in his mind. What could he have done differently? It should have been him, not her. Every time he came to the same conclusion. It was his fault.
Cover blown, Peter struggles to find purpose in life. He searches for someone, something he can be helpful doing. All the while he's hunted by the guild for being the one who got away. The loose end that still needs tying.

Personality Traits: I would rather make a new friend than a new enemy. I don’t pay attention to the risks in a situation. Never tell me the odds. The best way to get me to do something is to tell me I can’t do it.
Ideals: People. I’m loyal to my friends, not to any ideals, and everyone else can take a trip down the Styx for all I care. (Neutral) Well... perhaps not that... Redemption. There’s a spark of good in everyone. (Good)
Bonds: I will earn the trust of the Harpers and become a true Faction Agent. Not some disposable asset. I am ready.
Flaws: I think that I can talk my way out of anything (whether I can or not). I don't always appreciate the risks.
Backstory: Lyra Ravenscale's prize possession is a dull black harmonica which always hangs at her throat. Found during childhood, it is the source of her magic. Stains her lips like dark lipstick. Through this instrument, she has made what at first was an unwitting pact with the Raven Queen. A mysterious, chaotic neutral demigod of Shadowfell, also represented in her black warhammer hanging, seemingly too heavy for Lyra, at her hip.
Youngest child of a small merchant family and orphaned at an early age, Lyra ran off from her elven grandmother's home near Silverymoon as soon as she was of age. Using the fey gifts she had learned along with her considerable charm and eloquence, she soon found employment in Waterdeep, the City of Splendors, first as an agent, spy and bounty hunter for the rich. And eventually as an asset for the Harpers, though too mercurial to be considered a true faction agent.
Until now. Why did they choose her to be the one to go south? The tales out of Elturel and Baldur's Gate sounded too fanciful to credit. Archdevils and Blood Wars and entire cities sinking down into...
She shrugs and plays a lively riff on her dark harmonica. Adventure is always the better reason anyway, and Lyra... Lyra believes with the unshakeable certainty of the young that she can talk her way out of anything.

Personality Traits (2):
Cute Goth. Always soft spoken, Threnody appears kindly, charming and gentle at first glance, despite her fondness for foreboding black apparel and obvious infernal heritage. It's only when people get to know her that they see beneath the placid exterior - a fury that cannot be quenched.
Cynical Empathetic. She expects the worst of people, and feels tremendous compassion for those who have suffered.
Ideal: Retribution. The wicked must taste the cruelties they have inflicted upon the forsaken and down-trodden.
Bond: Family. Threnody has a twin brother, but she has no idea where he is. One day, she prays she'll see him again.
Flaw: Addiction. Threnody is too enamored of wine, beer, and other intoxicants.
Backstory:
Threnody's early life was happy and unremarkable. The daughter of a priestess of Oghma, she lived contentedly in Candlekeep with her twin brother, Esurience, making petty mischief as children do. That all changed forever when the devil father she'd never known made himself known in their lives.
Krazztus was a high-ranking incubus lord in the hierarchy of the Nine Hells, yet filled with ambitions for things greater. Desperate to get his hands on a forbidden tome locked away in the library of Candlekeep, he deceived and seduced an Oghman priestess into providing him with access to the text that would help him ascend. Threnody and Esurience were the product of that deceitful union, but Alanna loved her children nonetheless. When Krazztus reappeared years later, he claimed he had left something of value within his progeny and kidnapped Esurience. Alanna never recovered from having her child ripped from her arms, and died of a broken heart not long after.
Many years have passed since then. Although Threnody appears composed and charming on the surface, the wound of her brother's abduction and the trauma it inflicted upon her mother has never really healed. Unable to set scores right in her own life by saving her brother who was stolen away to the Nine Hells for ends unknown, she swore an oath of vengeance for others, seeking retribution for the wronged, bringing justice where the legal authorities could not or would not. In time, she took up the profession of a bounty hunter and fixer in Baldur's Gate, sometimes meting out amusing, poetic humiliations for small wrongs, while inflicting terrible, hideous fates for serious felonies.

Appearance: Kaster is an average halfling and all in all pretty unremarkable in every way. The most remarkable thing about him isn't about him at all, but rather about the big, brutish mastiff that Kaster uses to ride around the Halfling villages upon to meet with the parishioners...
Alignment: Neutral Good. Really only not lawful because the halflings are a bit carefree about laws and such, more concerned about what is right and proper than written down laws.

Kaster Cloverpot comes from a long line of Cloverpots who have all had very good and proper halfling reputations! Kaster, truthfully, is not very religious himself but being a late born son to a rather prolific family, there was not much left to inherit property or profession wise. But the clergy are always respected and always needed... And it never seemed all that strenuous. Such it was that Kaster found himself a sect that wasn't overly strict on the social rules and set about leading a quiet and proper life. He thought.
Kaster had just fallen into a nice, quaint routine when all the business with Elturel got stirred up. His sect decided to send a representative to see what was going on and if they could be of any aid and assistance. It was only right on proper. Kaster voted in favor of it himself, he did. Never in a thousand thousand seasons did he think that it would be his name proposed to be the representative! Why he had hardly ever even ventured farther than the vineyards on the outskirts! And only then to collect the wine for the ceremonies and all... This can't really be happening, can it? Surely there is some mistake! Surely those in Baldur's Gate will have no use for such an average Halfling with such little to offer... Surely!
((If allowed, Kaster will be selling the Scale Mail that comes standard equipment so he can buy the Mastiff he rides around on. Kaster most definitely is not one of those front line, get into the melee type of clerics! He will be hiding in the middle of everyone else hoping not to be noticed, only scurrying about to heal the wounded when absolutely necessary... At least early on.))

Backstory:
Peter Falden is a middle aged halfling who had been employed with the harpers for quite some time to spy on various marks throughout his career. He ingratiated himself into the thieves guild to make his spying easier as the guild's list of contacts was long. Peter's undercover name was Brock Black Beard or Bees for short. While working a particularly long case, Peter fell in love with his mark. Her name was Emma and she was the most beautiful halfling in all the world. She worked with the guild as a distraction for con jobs.
While Peter and Emma were hanging out she found Peter's Harpers pin which he believed was always kept hidden. She confronted him about it, but saw right through his denials. She told him to leave and never come back. He refused unless she agreed to come with him. His argument was persuasive and she agreed. While preparing to escape, the guild found them out and worked swiftly to tie up their loose ends. You don't quit the guild after all, the guild quits you. She must have loved Peter as well because she sacrificed herself to save him. He relived the moment a thousand times in his mind. What could he have done differently? It should have been him, not her. Every time he came to the same conclusion. It was his fault.
Cover blown, Peter struggles to find purpose in life. He searches for someone, something he can be helpful doing. All the while he's hunted by the guild for being the one who got away. The loose end that still needs tying.
