Gimdir will have stayed outside with Morthos.  Not saying anything, but giving Morthos a disconcerting fake smile if eye contact is made, and restraining Morthos if he tries to leave.

"A humanoid shadow... Hearts being torn out... A weekly schedule... Flight... Claws..." Dredmor recalls all the monstrosities he knows... and one fits all the criteria. The witness had provided the missing piece. "Thank you, young miss. You have given us the information we need. I'm fairly certain that I have deduced the Identity of the Killer!" 

OOC: All the evidence points to it being a Peryton, or maybe a group thereof. The behavior, The humanoid shadow... It all fits. 

“I’ll guard Morthos ,” Kreeng stand to the side of Mortho. Shield readied and equipped. His free hand on the hilt of his sword. Kreeng stand tall in a readied position. As the others continue to question the witness.

"Were Feathers found near any of the victims?" Dredmor asks.

Martha says "It all happened so fast, and I ran to the town watch as soon as I say what happened, if there were feathers I didn't see them"

Morthos strikes up conversation with Kreeng and Gimdir "So you're investigating killings, you working for the Duke or the Alderman? Have you done this kind of thing before? Any idea who did it?"

Gimdir answers Morthos, "Alderman. No. A beast, tall or flies, with claws."

Kreeng remains silent at his post listening to the conversation.

Morthos asks "Where are you staying during the investigation? One of the inns? If you need a place my apothecary shop has enough space for all of you"

Gimdir has a confused look on his face as he asks, "Huh?  I thought ye be new in town, which coincided with the start of the killings.  Ye be actually from here?"

"I'm a new arrival and my apothecary shop is new too. I bought the property shortly after my arrival"

Dredmor thanks the young lady and goes to reconvene with his comrades "I know the Killer's Identity. It's a Peryton." He says. "Possibly a female in search of a mate." 

Gimdir looks at Dredmor with a confused look, "How do we catch it?"

"Perytons are fell creatures with the bodies of giant eagles and the heads of stags. They are relentless and vicious, devouring the hearts of their victims. The reason I suspect that this one is looking for a mate is that the Peryton fertility cycle lasts one week and is triggered by consuming the heart of a pregnant humanoid. As for how to catch it... We could ask the alderman to post additional archers... Or we could attempt to hunt it down ourselves." Dredmor replies. It wouldn't be the first time he'd hunted Perytons. "Back when I served in the army, Perytons were the bane of Refugee Camps, and were given the same priority as enemy scouting parties. We have two ways to hunt it. We can go on the offensive, track the beast to its lair before it strikes again, or we can wait for it to attack again... essentially use the townsfolk as bait." He turns to Morthos and extends his hand, "I saw that you practice arcane spells. Such a skill would be an asset against the beast."  

OOC: Dredmor specializes in hunting monstrosities, so we have two options. Wait for the killer to come to us, or go out and hunt it back to the nest. Dredmor would prefer to go on the offensive, but if we wait for it to come to us we could take advantage of its obsessive nature by simply locating its next target and protecting them. 

"There still be thousands of pregnant women in this town.  Baiting it to strike only our bait be risky.  If it is possible to hunt it, we should hunt it."

"Indeed. I know that Perytons generally make their homes in high places, like mountain crags. We should still tell the alderman to post more archers. Then, starting tomorrow, we hunt"

Morthos shakes your hand "I would be glad to help you hunt this creature. Maybe it might clear my name." The curfew is about to fall. Being constables the curfew doesn't apply to you, but Morthos will need to go home. "I should be getting back home before the guards get suspicious. My offer of lodging still stands"

(Something that Dredmor might think is odd is the frequency of the killings, Perytons don't share hunting grounds, and they only raise one child at a time, having 4 peryton fertility cycle related deaths in so short a time doesn't fit the pattern. You would expect them to paced out at minimum six months apart, the length of time it takes a peryton to reach adolescence and leave the nest. But all other signs point to the killer being a peryton)

Kreeng takes in all the conversation.”I will follow if you choose to hunt th beast.”

Kreeng waites for orders. As he holds his guard like position.

That's why he said It might be looking for a mate. Or its someone trying to make it look like a peryton, at which point I give up entirely. Dang it now i'm second-guessing myself. 

(sorry for throwing off your groove, just wanted to make sure you hadn't forgotten any character knowledge. Always feel free to ask for as much character knowledge as you want, I try to be very generous with that sort of thing)

Morthos asks if you would be willing to escort him back to house before curfew.

Dredmor nods.
