Morthos leads you through the town and out the gates to the scattered farmsteads and inns around the town. He takes you to a repurposed windmill just outside town. He opens the door and inside you can see shelves lining the wall filled with flasks and jars of pickled monster parts, and tables with alchemical equipment spread out on them. Morthos turns to you after opening the door:
"thank you for trusting me, it's hard to find anyone who will give a tiefling the time of day. Tomorrow I will need to visit the alderman, I have been helping him recover from the injuries he received in the War of the Late Sun Winter. After I have tended to him I will be able to help you on the hunt for this creature. Preparing the tinctures for the alderman will take most of the morning, if speed is your priority you may need to embark without me."
Gimdir, growing suspicious of Morthos, asks, "If we be spending the night in yer shop, mind if I be looking around nooks and crannies? If villagers be causing trouble, I want to know where I be at."
If Morthos agrees, Investigation to search for hidden rooms or stashes: 10
"A good precaution, please familiarize yourself with the tower. However I must insist that the top level of the tower remain undisturbed, I have very delicate alchemical experiments underway on that level, even opening the door may upset the conditions, ruin the experiment and prove dangerous. You all must be hungry, let me see what the cellar has to offer"
Morthos opens a cellar door in the main room and heads down a series of steps into the basement.
(everyone will consume a trail ration unless they wish to accept Morthos' offer of dinner)
Tower Layout
Fifth Floor: locked door. contents unknown.
Fourth Floor: cramped, filled with discarded mill mechanisms
Third Floor: Bedroom with small bath separated by partition
Second Floor: Modest library and writing desk, shelves with a few odd curios, birdcage with two ravens
First Floor: walls lined with shelves full of flasks, dried herbs, and pickled monster parts, tables set up with distillation equipment. Small building attached to first floor of mill, has kitchen, and dining table.
Basement: floor of packed earth, stored food, wine rack, old mill tools
Gimdir finds no secret stashes, hidden rooms, or false doors
Gimdir scowls when Morthos denies access to the top floor, "Me gut tells me not to be trustin ya. Open the door to the top floor to show us what be inside, or I be leaving ya to deal with the townfolk on yer own."
"This attitude is uncalled for dwarf. Unless you or your friends can cast Protection from Poisonthe top floor of the tower must not be entered for your own good. The fungi spores do not care about your suspicions and neither do I, in 1 day(s) the fungi extract will be neutralized, you may enter the floor then."
"Oh, it be called for. Yer hiding something and I can see that plain as day. Come clean or manage on yer own." Gimdir will be heading out the door and leave unless Morthos gives him reason not to.
Kreeng still holding his shield and one hand on his sword while it’s shithed ( this is the always stance, not to be confused as a show of force ) ..... Kreeng observes the dwarv and tiefling getting into... Kreeng waits for orders.
Morthos offers no attempt to stop you. Unless anyone else wants to talk to Morthos he retires to his bedroom after saying "sorry about that, I hope the rest of you understand. Like I said, I will busy tomorrow, but if you still want me to accompany you I am still willing"
Gimdir sees the large doorway that would have been used to haul unrefined grain to the top floor. Looks like a big metal door has been installed there. The beam for the old pulley system is still hanging over the door.
"I have a rope. I also have a longbow i can use to get it over the beam." Dredmor says. "Something's been bothering me about the killings, and this could be important."

The beam is 70 feet up, a length of rope is 50f, you could tie the rope to an arrow and shoot it into the beam but it wouldn't hold any weight, you could shoot the rope over the beam, but the rope is only 50f so it wouldn't reach all the way down, if the rope was dangling say 25f down from the beam then someone could climb up 45f then grab the end of the rope and climb up easy the rest of the way, if any one has a climbers kit then you could work your way up the side of the tower in 25f increments. The sun is setting, it will be dark soon.
What are Kreeng and Zusag doing while Gimdir and Dredmor examine the outside of the tower?
"Villagers be willing to burn prison to get ta ya. Yer shop may be cinders already. Let's go see."

Gimdir chooses to eat one of his own rations.
Kreeng will use a ration.

Gimdir walks out and immediately walks completely around the old windmill, looking at the top floor. Windows? Anything peculiar?

Use the appropriate check, if required.
Gimdir sees the large doorway that would have been used to haul unrefined grain to the top floor. Looks like a big metal door has been installed there. The beam for the old pulley system is still hanging over the door.
Gimdir thinks a rope would be useful. He asks his colleagues if any of them have some? Rope and a grappling hook would be even better!
"I have a rope. I also have a longbow i can use to get it over the beam." Dredmor says. "Something's been bothering me about the killings, and this could be important."

Gimdir looks up and asks, "Can you get the rope attached to that beam?"

What are Kreeng and Zusag doing while Gimdir and Dredmor examine the outside of the tower?
I don't have a rope, so I'm waiting for Dredmor to do something with the rope or concede it can't be done. Then I'll decide what I will do next.
