I am recruiting for an adventure module that will be decided by the players! But… before we get to that, you will play a short one-shot or mini adventure (TBD) for me to measure commitment before we get into the real adventure. I have nearly all official books, so have almost all player-facing options. If there is something you want but do not personally have access to from official sources, write it in your submission, but just use one of the available options in your linked character sheet as a placeholder for now.
What kind of games do I usually run?
RP-focused games with a medium amount of combat, puzzle-light (because I am intimidated by puzzle games), with hopefully more than average social encounters and a level of exploration that meets whatever the explorer-inclined likes. I am a very player-focused DM, or at least I try to be, and have had wonderful experiences with players who enjoy digging into the exploration. If that is you, let me know.
I am willing to consider 2014 subclasses that have no 2024 version.
I am willing to consider 2014 species if there is no 2024 version (Gem Dragonborn for example) and if it really is important to you. It won’t get you extra ability scores in this game, as I will correct 2014 species to be in alignment with 2024 rules.
Third party content will be considered if you own it. The only third party content I have is Exandria. Ask for me to review what you have.
Standard Array or Point Buy (no rolls).
Standard starting equipment.
No Homebrew or Legacy.
Milestone leveling.
You can use the dice roller in the forums or the character sheet during the game, but fair warning, the forum roller is buggy often and I will use whatever roll I see from an unedited post.
What do I need from you?
A picture and link to your character (make sure to make your PC public to be considered).
Set to level 3 as a placeholder. Your actual level will depend on the adventure that we choose.
Backstories are welcome and I will read them, but are not necessary to join. I will try to work backstories into the game in some way if you put the effort in to make them.
The top three adventure modules you would like to play.
The kind of game you want to be in? Rank your needs (Combat, RP, social, puzzles, exploration, etc) so I can try to tailor any module to your needs.
An honest commitment of posting cadence that the players and I can expect from you. Is it once a day, once a week, or once a year? I am not interested in fast or slow necessarily. I am interested in trying to get players who are similar in availability to keep the game going.
Real life happens sometimes. Respect your fellow players please and let us know if you need to dip for a bit or if your availability changes. If you need to leave for an extended time, we can talk about holding your spot or replacing you. Whatever makes the most sense.
If you make a post and you think it would call for a Check, feel free to roll it in your post (or character sheet) without me calling for it. This is to help reduce waiting time. If I agree that your Check was appropriate, I will use it. If I agree but think it was some other Skill, I will replace the modifier, but otherwise use the roll. If I don’t think a Check is necessary, I will ignore it. If you don’t think your post calls for a Check, but I do, I will ask for a Check and do the waiting thing. In other words, rolling when you think it makes sense only benefits us all and hurts nothing.
Considerations
You are a good or neutral person and you have an unshakable reason to be part of this team.
No PVP unless it is previously agreed upon by the players.
I am happy to let in-character party conflicts occur and play out, but players can throw up a yellow card at any time and it is immediately over. No exceptions and no grudges; it only goes as far as you allow.
Romance is not intended to be part of the public game. If you and another player vibe well, feel free to pursue that in private messages for anything not PG-13. I have been in great games that included romance, but it is just easier to not do it in games with strangers.
Combat
Combat is a slog in PBP. To help streamline this, we will hold hard and fast, without exception, to your submitted posting cadence. If you lose your turn because of it, that will be very unfortunate, so please try to be here when you say you will.
Monsters will be grouped together vs players grouped together. Which group goes first will be determined by averaging the initiatives of both parties.
Some of you might have agreed to long stretches between posts compared to your peers. I would like to limit the impact that one person has on the pace of the game, so for those of you who only can post once a week compared to daily posters, I would be willing to consider you not being part of combat, or letting someone else pilot your PC for combat until you arrive. Unfortunately, I have seen far too many low-stakes combat encounters take weeks because of one or two players not showing up and this is my current solution for it.
Replacing Players
Sometimes the worst happens and it is a big bummer for everyone. I have seen single players tear the whole game apart before they go in spiteful retribution. My solution to that is that if a player needs to be excused because of incompatibilities, the PC will simply cease to exist and never will have existed. I am not writing a book, so I don’t care about canon. If you had wonderful interactions with the PC of the player that left, you can keep that, but it will be assumed to have been from an old friend who was not part of the party or something similar. Depending on the party needs, we might just continue on or replace them. If that happens, I will bump this recruitment thread for that.
Joy was born in a small village at the edge of a deep, ancient forest, a place where folk tales of dark creatures and ominous curses were whispered among the villagers. From birth, she bore the unmistakable signs of a hexblood—pale green-tinted skin, unnaturally sharp nails, forked ears, and eyes that gleamed with a mischievous glint. Her parents, simple and devout farmers, were filled with fear and sorrow, believing their child to be cursed by dark forces.
As Joy grew, her hexblood traits became more pronounced. Her connection to her hag ancestry began to manifest in subtle but unsettling ways. She would catch herself saying hurtful things without meaning to, feel a cruel delight in the misfortune of others, and sometimes she would dream of dark, twisted forests filled with malicious creatures. Her parents, desperate to save their daughter from what they perceived as an inevitable fall into darkness, sought the counsel of the village priest.
The priest, sensing a spark of goodness in the young girl, suggested sending her to the temple of Lathander, the Morninglord, a place known for its teachings of compassion, light, and redemption. There, Joy would be guided by the holy order, far from the shadows that threatened to consume her.
At the temple, Joy was met with kindness and understanding. The priests and paladins taught her the ways of Lathander, encouraging her to resist the darker urges that simmered within her. She learned to channel her innate power into acts of healing and protection rather than harm. Through years of discipline, prayer, and meditation, Joy grew into a compassionate and wise young woman, though the struggle against her blood's innate cruelty was a constant battle.
When she came of age, Joy took an Oath. She swore to the Morninglord and herself that she would dedicate her life to the pursuit of peace, redemption, and the healing of those who, like her, teetered on the edge of darkness. She chose the name Joy as a reminder of the light she sought to bring into the world and as a rejection of the despair and cruelty associated with her hag lineage.
Joy now travels the land, offering her guidance and aid to those who have lost their way. She seeks to redeem not only herself but others as well, believing that even the most corrupt soul can find its way back to the light. Her journey is one of constant vigilance, as she must always resist the pull of her darker nature, but she faces it with courage and unwavering faith.
Subclass: Ideally Oath of Redemption, but Ancients would work too.
Name:Jack Mortmaigne Race: Human Class: Warlock (Archfey) Background: Wayfarer Backstory: He was definitely lost now. The young boy was playing hide and seek with his friends at the Smiling Fox orphanage and had hidden himself among the thick green bushes in the far corner of the orphanage's backyard. He had soon found himself in a misty forest and instead of trying to find his back to safety his curiosity had spurred him on, taking him deeper into the mystery.
Even though lost, not being one to despair, the young boy kept walking, still amazed over this mysterious forest. Soon he heard soft music which drew him to a misty glade where faeries danced and pranced. "Welcome boy, we've been expecting you for some time now." A feminine voice behind him spoke softly. The boy turned and his green curious eyes looked up at the most beautiful elven maiden that smiled warmly at him.
Young Jack returned to his game of hide and seek, but not before being introduced into the deeper mysteries of the orphanage and it's benefactors of the Feywild. As he eventually reached adulthood, Jack left the orphanage to carry out his patron's wishes in the Realms, opposing tyranny and cruelty with trickery and ridicule, using his faery magic to assume the identities of the most despiccable nobles and other people of power to prank them and relieve them of wealth enough to keep the orphanage safe and himself with good wine and other of life's necessities.
Adventures: No strong preferences but adventures as per the application above all sounds good. Gamestyle: Roleplaying/Social/Combat/Exploration/Puzzles Commitment: Have been active every day since since I started playing on DDB and expect to continue with that :-)
Adventure preferences: Dragon of Icespire Peak, Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden, Wild Beyond the Witchlight Type of game: I would love an RP/social-heavy game with descriptive RP and interactions. In order of preference: 1. RP/social, 2. Exploration, 3. Combat, 4. Puzzles Commitment: At least one significant post per day with additional shorter posts to keep things moving.

Vazo'yn, or just Vaz to his friends, was born among his kind deep within the mountains of the north. He was a normal boy like all of the other young children of his clan. Perhaps he was a little more imaginative than most and he was more insistent about his imaginary friends, but his family loved him all the more for his active mind.
As he grew older, though, it became obvious that the friends he had imagined up were not the creations of his mind, but the spirits of long-dead ancestors and heroes that had lived among his clan. They whispered to him and guided his steps, offering him unique insight. He served What had started out as the carefree joy of childhood led him to a place of honour among his clan, as he guided them through their tough and difficult journeys under the mountains, aided by their ancient spirits.
One day as he awoke from his evening trance, the spirits all whispered in urgent unison: Go. Alone. Leave the mountains. The image of a green-skinned woman clad in armour filled his mind.
Despite his protestations, the spirits would say no more than this simple, cryptic instruction. Worried that something would befall his clan should he stay with them against the spirits' instructions, he gathered his things and struck out in search of the woman from his vision, hoping he would find answers.
Appearance: The marks and scars of a difficult life underground mar Vazo'yn's features, but behind them there is always the spark of joy and purpose, a smile tugging at the corner of his mouth.

Backstory: Murf grew up in a small wood not too far from the sea. While others were exploring the woods he would go for long walks on the beach, discovering all manner of sea life that would wash up on the beach. He often helped them back into the sea if they got beached. When he would return home he shared stories of his day with his mom, Esme, and she would listen with rapt attention and also encourage him to pursue his love of the sea and nature.
Shortly after coming of age he met up with some Druids who monitored the surrounding area and they saw in him a kindred spirit. Taking him underwing as it were they began training him to become a Druid and together they went on many adventures together calling themselves the Wandering Waves. Nowadays the other members seldom go adventuring any more as many are married or retired. Murf however is still looking for adventures to be had.

Race: Human Class: Ranger (Gloom Stalker) Background: Wayfarer Backstory:
Riven Duskrun was born under a moonless sky in the city of Duskwatch, a place where shadows stretched long, and the whispers of forgotten things clung to the narrow streets. A child of the undercity, he learned early that survival meant knowing when to be seen and when to disappear. He was the son of a nameless woman—a healer who tended to the wounded in the back alleys—and a father he never met, though the rumors whispered his bloodline carried something old, something lingering at the edges of night.
His mother vanished when he was ten. No body. No signs of struggle. Just the lingering scent of damp stone and candle wax in the empty room where she had been. No one in Duskwatch cared for another orphan, so Riven learned to fend for himself—stealing when he had to, working when he could, and watching everything. He became a shadow in his own city, listening to murmured secrets in the dark and slipping through the cracks of places he was never meant to be.
A decade passed before he uncovered the truth: his mother hadn’t been taken by chance. She had been hunted—by something patient, something that had waited until no one would notice her absence. Her crime? Knowing too much. The wrong name, the wrong secret, spoken in the wrong place. The revelation came too late to save her, but it was enough to set Riven on a path he hadn’t expected.
Vengeance wasn’t what he sought—vengeance was loud, reckless. No, what he wanted was understanding. Who were they? Why had they waited? And more importantly—what else did they know?
Riven left Duskwatch that night, following a trail of forgotten records and half-burned ledgers. His travels took him across quiet roads and through abandoned archives, always staying one step ahead of those who might want his search to end. Somewhere along the way, he became something more than just a man chasing a ghost—he became a hunter of those who thought themselves hidden.
Now, he finds himself among strangers, joining this group not out of loyalty or camaraderie, but because the path forward has led him here. If there are answers to be found, they are not in the past—only in what lies ahead.
Adventure preferences: Wild Beyond the Witchlight, Curse of Strahd, Journeys Through the Radiant Citadel Type of game: 1. Role Play 2. Exploration 3. Combat Commitment: Once a day, potentially twice I tend to post either early morning or in the evening.
Backstory: After spending a year in mandatory military training, Ylis was eager to get back to her books. Unfortunately the university had a demonic event happen during her second semester. Surely regular adventuring in the city of [campaign city] couldn't be more dangerous than that!
Backstory: Giles was a member of the Order of Nineteen. The order was wiped out by a meterorite, or a vampire attack, possibly something else... The rumors are wild. Giles walked away from whatever happened, and knows the truth, but when people see him, a member of the elite order of the Nineteen never cross their mind, so no one asks hims. Which he is glad for.
Adventures: Open to anything, but since you asked: Waterdeep Dragon Heist, Strahd, Radiant Citadel, Tyranny of dragons Game: RP/social, combat, exploration, puzzles Posting: Posting daily is fine for me, but can/will adapt the frequency of the campaign easily.
Everyone: Wonderful responses so far. A lot of amazing applicants. I am going to keep this open for a few days more to see what kind of turnout this gets, but I am pleased with what I am seeing.
Growing up he lived in a small village nestled at the edge of a forest in the valley of several large hills. He always followed the rules as best he could and tried not to make too much trouble if he could avoid it. All that changed a few years back. The forest began to get more and more dangerous. The villages sought help but no one came. Or the few who did were not skilfull. One day a great witch showed up and killed Valbis’ family his wife and three children. Most of the village died that day. Valbis himself was left for dead. Those few who lived fled that area of the forest or went to the cities. All nearby villages quickly emptied.
Valbis, greaved and full of hate, headed toward the city to gather warriors, wizards or whoever he could find to fight back but he failed. He was never very good with words or convincing others to do as he wished. His hate grew and his stomach grew hungry.
He stole for the first time. He tried to find work and occasionally did but it never seemed to last long. He found out that he was fairly good at theft and that seemed to be much easier and gave him more time to think and his hate grew.
One day he was in the middle of a heist and he was spotted by an old wizard. He didn't notice being spotted but he was.
The next day the wizard found him. He still isn't quite sure how, but is grateful he did. The elderly halfling wizard, who's name was Geldor, became a mentor of sorts. He fought Valbin to channel his hate for good. He fought him the way of the Soulknife, history, and much other knowledge.
As Valbin learned he changed. He wanted to get better and do good. He also felt he if could get strong enough he could finally have his vengeance.

I'm happy to play any module other than PotA or CoS.
Combat, RP, puzzles, exploration, social, but this is merely a preference and am fine with pretty much any composition.
I can probably post 3 times a day 5/7 days a week. (not Saturday day, and possible not other times due to personal reasons, also, I may not be able to post due to vacations)
Note: this is an "optimized" character, which I understand many do not like, but I am purposefully ignoring overpowered things like eldritch blast and conjure minor elementals (also, this build depends on using agonizing blast with true strike at low levels)
Also, a few things are placeholder because I don't own the books on dndbeyond.

"Nothing goes over my head. My reflexes are to fast: I would catch it."
"I cannot comment on an ongoing investigation."
"Well of course I know that. What else is there? A kitten?"
"You'd like to think that, Wouldn't you?"
"What do you mean? An African or European swallow?"
That is a great thing to mention, Jurmondur. Thank you for reminding me about it.
I will edit the OP to include this but I own almost every WOTC book, so can provide most player's needs if you do not have an official book but want to use some player-facing options from it. Just list the ones you want here, but just do the placeholder choice on your character sheet for now.
Character: Coam Sepul, Tiefling Paladin of Kelemvor (he/him)
Backstory: Coam was brought at a very young age into a cult of Bhaal under the pretense of feeding a street urchin and in actuality for the purposes of training more soldiers for their hunts. He killed without much question, and largely felt that he didn't have much responsibility for his actions or agency in his life until, as a young man, he was injured and left for dead by his companions after a murder went wrong. He was found by a cleric of Kelemvor by the name of Finnian, who determined it wasn't yet Coam's time to die, and took him in, training him in Kelemvor's teachings of order in death. Coam took it as an opportunity to slow down and notice the world around him for the first time, and found himself haunted by his actions. With Finnian's encouragement, Coam went out into the world, searching for ways to atone and chances to put the order he had come to idolize into practice.
Top three modules: Waterdeep dragon heist, Wilds Beyond the Witchlight, Radiant Citadel
Type of adventure: I think my ranking would be Roleplay and character development, Exploration, Combat, Puzzles.
Posting schedule: I can usually post every two days for sure, often more than that!
Alignment: Lawful neutral
Reason to be a part of the team: Coam's a little naive, and in his determination to make up for his past he has gotten it into his mind that if he follows a group that means to do good, and sticks to the teachings of Kelemvor, he will make up for the evil he's put into the world. He very much relies on the team to give him the opportunity to do that, and probably wouldn't leave for anything, as he would see it as a complete failure of his highest goals.
I will probably keep the Recruitment tag on for another 13 hours or so. After that, I will begin making decisions.
Remember everyone, we will do a test run with a one-shot or mini adventure before getting into whatever official adventure module that you collectively have chosen. A one shot, I expect might take a week or two to finish when converted to PBP pacing. That should help me see that everyone is compatible with each other and also help you determine if I am a good DM for you.

Type of game: 1. RP/social, 2. Exploration/Combat tie 3. Puzzles/Traps tie

Riven Duskrun
Race: Human
Class: Ranger (Gloom Stalker)
Background: Wayfarer
Backstory:
Adventure preferences: Wild Beyond the Witchlight, Curse of Strahd, Journeys Through the Radiant Citadel
Type of game: 1. Role Play 2. Exploration 3. Combat
Commitment: Once a day, potentially twice I tend to post either early morning or in the evening.

Name: Ylis
Species: Harengon
Class: Fighter/WIzard
Background: Guide
Backstory: After spending a year in mandatory military training, Ylis was eager to get back to her books. Unfortunately the university had a demonic event happen during her second semester. Surely regular adventuring in the city of [campaign city] couldn't be more dangerous than that!

Giles, Dwarven Monk, Wayfarer
Backstory: Giles was a member of the Order of Nineteen. The order was wiped out by a meterorite, or a vampire attack, possibly something else... The rumors are wild. Giles walked away from whatever happened, and knows the truth, but when people see him, a member of the elite order of the Nineteen never cross their mind, so no one asks hims. Which he is glad for.
Adventures: Open to anything, but since you asked: Waterdeep Dragon Heist, Strahd, Radiant Citadel, Tyranny of dragons
Game: RP/social, combat, exploration, puzzles
Posting: Posting daily is fine for me, but can/will adapt the frequency of the campaign easily.
Oberon, there is no link to your character. :x
Everyone: Wonderful responses so far. A lot of amazing applicants. I am going to keep this open for a few days more to see what kind of turnout this gets, but I am pleased with what I am seeing.

Valbis Sojin
Forest Gnome
Background : Criminal
Rouge - Soulknife
Social , roleplay, exploration, combat
I can post once a day except weekends.
https://www.dndbeyond.com/characters/143971861
Backstory:
Is this still open?
He/Him. I am the DM, you are the player. You make the mistakes and I decide the consequences. Now, with that being said - Are you SURE you want to cast Fireball?
The label still says recruiting, so probably still open.

Name: Apathy
Race: Wood Elf
Class: Monk (Way of the Open Hand)
Backstory: On page
Mainly Social & RP but willing to roll with anything
I can post frequently, but may disappear occasionally
Top Three Adventures: Uh... I only know Dragonlance: Shadow of the dragon queen... But I'd prefer anything that involves showcasing a character's character rather than just spamming "I roll to hit" every encounter.

Homebrew spell: dominance

That is a great thing to mention, Jurmondur. Thank you for reminding me about it.
I will edit the OP to include this but I own almost every WOTC book, so can provide most player's needs if you do not have an official book but want to use some player-facing options from it. Just list the ones you want here, but just do the placeholder choice on your character sheet for now.

Halfling is a placeholder for aasimar. Other than that, I don't think all the spell options are listed.

I do both party and individual character commissions. PM me for info.
Corti- Warforged bard of lore (Union!)
Jean CamGaret - Half-elven draconic sorcerer (Acjots' Rise of Tiamat)
Panya Swiftheart - Halfling ancestral barbarian (The Life and Lies of Veritas Finbask)
