After much review, we have decided that you will be accepted into Strixhaven University! You have proven that your magic and educational skills are truly exceptional. Congratulations on this feat, for you are one of thousands. Please respond promptly on whether you will...

No doubt, you have received a letter almost exactly like this, inviting you to come to Strixhaven University, a prestigious university. And no doubt, you have accepted. But re you prepared for the adventure of a lifetime?
I'm looking for 5-6 players. This will be using the 2014 rules, so making a 2014 character is preferred. You could make a 2024 char, however. When you join, please include your character's Class, Race, Background, Strixhaven College, and Backstory. Use starting gold, as well as one Common magic item and one Uncommon magic item (excluding armor. Sorry fighters; no Adamantine plate for you) to start with. Magic classes are encouraged, and if not, the ability to cast spells in some way is. Start at level one. Stats are standard array or rolled. Roll them in here, drop ones once.
This will be a combination of two relatively common modules, Keys from the Golden Vault and Strixhaven: a Curriculum of Chaos. More information involving the combination will be revealed later. Student info sheets will also be provided later.
Class: Warlock, Pact of the Blade Race: Goliath Background: A drummer boy in the kings' army, until he found a sword of ice Strixhaven College: Silverquill Backstory: A humble drummer boy, too stupid to be considered for any college - until he claimed a dark Fey blade, which whispers to him of powers and principalities. Raised in the army, he is nonetheless a kind and practical soul.
Backstory: Amari is the only child of a well-off merchant family. Her parents were deeply dedicated to Mielikki, and her proximity to that faith growing up left her with a powerful desire to study the natural world and become a healer. Her parents expected her to attend formal schooling, and she was thrilled when she was accepted to Strixhaven. She is very much looking forward to her studies, and probably doesn't fully realize what's coming for her!
Backstory: strix was always interested in magic one day he observed an elf in his woods casting spells and was brave enough to approach They formed a friendship, learned elvish and pieces together the fundamentals of spell casting Prior to leaving the elf encouraged him to find Strixhaven and continue learning
Class: wizard Race: Orc Background: Sage Strixhaven College: lorehold Backstory: Born among a reclusive orcish clan in the craggy wilderness known as the Echoing Vale, Kalos was never quite like the others. Where his kin prized brute strength and glory in battle, Kalos found fascination in the silent hum of ancient stones and the delicate runes scrawled on weathered ruins. His strength was average, his demeanor quiet, and he lacked the booming charisma of a war leader—but his mind blazed brighter than any forge.
Though mocked in youth for his obsession with "dead languages" and "ghost books," Kalos’ brilliance couldn’t be ignored. He discovered a long-lost human spellbook beneath a collapsed shrine, and through sheer will and intellect, taught himself its arcane secrets. His natural resilience and focus allowed him to push through the mental and physical toll of spellcraft, showing a rare blend of endurance and sharp intellect.
A visiting sage, passing through the Vale in search of relics, recognized Kalos’ potential. He sponsored the young orc's entry into the magical world, and eventually, Kalos earned a coveted place at Strixhaven University. There, he aligned with Lorehold College, captivated by their reverence for history and the adventure of uncovering forgotten truths. With a Strixhaven pennant over his shoulder and an arcane grimoire at his side, Kalos is determined to blend the past with the present.
Is this still recruiting? I'd like to reserve a spot.
Character: Avery "Apathy" Veritas
Race: Sightless (I'll DM details, if its not allowed, Wood Elf)
Class: Way of The Arcane Monk (If homebrew subclasses are not allowed - Way of Mercy. If magic only classes are allowed - Archfey Warlock 2024)
Background: Wayfarer
College: Silverquill
Backstory: At a young age Avery was sold to slavers by her homeless and desperate mother for a pittance, and immediately put to work as a labourer. She was often given the most complex jobs due to her lack of retinal sight and lackadaisical personality, but somehow she was able to get them done, which both confused and angered her captors, and resulted in them attacking, harassing, and assigning harder work to her, but she didn’t really mind because it meant that her fellow slaves would have less work and pain from the slavers. However, one day a Death Dog attacked their camp and, like the cowards they were, the slavers made like a banana and split, leaving the slaves to fend for themselves. While many of the slaves ran or took cover, Avery stood her ground against the beast and managed to hold it off with a shovel for a while due to the wolf not being able to exploit her nonexistent blindspots. However, she was ultimately still just a blind girl with a shovel and was injured so badly she fell unconscious. When she woke up, she was in a place she didn’t recognize. It was a dome shaped temple with symbols that looked like a pair of white hands bound at the wrist with a red cord plastered all over the walls. She later found that she was in one of the temples of Ilmater and that, shortly after she passed out, a paladin managed to get to the camp and slay the Death Dog. Afterwards she brought the slaves to the temple to be healed and set free. While most of the slaves were excited to be released, Avery was asked to stay at the temple and learn the ways of Ilmater, and she agreed. She stayed for many years, practicing holy magic, reciting bouts of faith, performing good deeds all the while, and even made some friends (including a young tiefling named Kairi) but nothing felt right to her, and she couldn’t find her place among the clerics for years. It wasn’t until the temple she was in did a cultural exchange with the local monastery that she found a place she felt like she belonged. The monks of this monastery utilized the arcane to their advantage, focusing the ki in their bodies to perform bouts of magic that gave them an advantage on their missions. Avery was in awe of this and begged to become a member of the monastery. The monastery’s leader, a gnome named Magiseeker, saw Avery’s sincerity in what was usually a very careless and lax person, and agreed. After a tearful goodbye with Kairi and a sincere bout of gratitude to the folks of the temple of Ilmater, Avery trained diligently under Magiseeker. Eventually, Avery's magical prowess caught the attention of Strixhaven

Jaud Erlos
Class: Ranger
Race: Human
Background: Soldier
Strixhaven College: Lorehold
Backstory: Born poor and with no earthly prospects, restless young Jaud traded a lonely childhood of aimless wandering through the wilderness surrounding his father’s pitiful farm for a lengthy stint in the local militia. He took to training naturally, but hated the dull repetition of drills and guard duties. He volunteered for every scouting mission, every remote outpost, every traveling security detail he could. Until he realized that as far as the military life would take him, it wasn’t nearly as far as he wanted to go. A late night heart-to-heart with his commanding officer piqued his curiosity about enrolling in University, for a chance at the life of freedom and adventure, exploration and challenge he craved. And so, with commendation letters from his superiors in hand, Jaud set off for Strixhaven, looking to make a name for himself, and carve a path into the history books, in the College of Lorehold.

We are still recruiting, yes. I'll most likely give the last slots to the first people that provide character info. Don't feel rushed, however. I do it from top to bottom, and I'll check every couple of days, so you should be fine.

Gerdeen Island: a Pokemon themed tavern, meant to simulate the mundane parts of real life.
Corwin, Variant Human Rogue, kind of a lazy apprentice to a strict wizard, never really applied himself , so only really knows a few specific spells, proved useful to his master sneaking into places in search of lost and forbidden knowledge, heard about Lorehold and his master scored him a sponsorship to the School. Background: Lorehold Initiate V. Human Feat: Magic Initiate(Wizard) Common Item: Charlatan's Die (Technically 2024) Uncommon Item: Bag of Holding
Always fascinated by love, yearned to learn it's mysteries. Studying old books and spinning the tales he found at the tavern. Emilio found his calling being a matchmaker, giving advice and concocting potions (mostly alcohol) to inspire confidence. Dolling up ladies with makeup who seek thier crushes attention, for treats and coin. Haven't yet found his own, til one day finding an ancient delicate chruchwarden pipe jutting up from the sands in his travels.
Having earned a satchel of tabbacco for giving sagely advice to a wizard on matters of love, while giving him a haircut and shave. A little makeup to enhance his rugged features and words of encouragement was all that was needed to ask for the barmaid's father for permission. Feeling elated watching it happen, Emilio retired early to his room with the trinkets and treats he earned for the night. He packs the pipe and draws slowly.
A strange sensation, as he is folded and turned inside out. He becomes aware he is no longer in his tavern room. Dimly lit room of polished stone, as he turns to survey it. He sees an enormous figure of a woman. "Hello! My name is Emil..." [SMACK]...[BONES CRUSHING] The fight if you can call it that, lasted 4 hours, and ended in crippling defeat as I layed my head under her hoof for the killing blow. This pleased her. I awoke sore but my bones were mended.
Now most people wouldn't have gone back, but I was completely enthralled, infatuation called me back to the largest earthy woman with the meanest purple eyes. Years of torture and beatings, learning a language that predates time, even more important was learning the etiquette to address her with it.
My knowledge of the magic, the mysteries, and the lore of love grew! I used flattering, wit and guile, to win her heart. I profusely poured out my heart and soul before her. I wanted to be worthy of having my shrunken head worn around her neck like her previous husbands. I expected to be beaten or worse, I could no longer hold it in. To my surprise she accepted my love and reached deep into her heart, pulling out a vein of rose colored gold. Braiding my ring finger with it and warning of dire consequences should I ever lose it.
And the wizard I helped, he didn't forget about me. He married his sweetheart, and vouched for me,. I received a letter inviting me to the university. Love is grand and works in mysterious ways!
