Gooterat's wide eyes saw very well in the dim light, but not all eyes see the same. And, not too proud to admit it, everything seemed s little less frightening with some light. He pulled a torch from his pack, and placed into the open mage hand. He moved back a bit and said, "Anyone got a light? I could spark it with magic, but I wouldnt be able to move the helping hand too." If anyone is able to provide a source of combustion, the torch sparks to life, light chasing back the oppressive darkness. With a thought, Gooterat sent the hand into the room.
With a smile and a sloppy formal bow, Gooterat swept his arm towards the room and said, "After you."
***OoC: magic action to move the mage hand into the middle of the room / he will follow folks in, but not take the lead. If nobody else has a light he uses prestidigitation to light the torch and the hand remains near the door***

Alaric will bring out his tinderbox and light it. "I think we should finish exploring the new place before we dive into the old. This seems more supernatural and therefore dangerous."
Boff pokes his head into the room, quickly scanning for threats. His attention is caught by the lifelike statue of a warrior in battle, and he steps inside just enough to stand before the statue and behold the depiction of combat.
If there is no further interest in the room from the others, Boff joins them back in the hallway to check the next door...

"Statues are sometimes not statues. One was bird was a man. I will see if this man is a bird." [Perception 20]
**OOC: If there is nothing of note, Rats will continue on his merry way. However if the statue appears off, he will wander into the room after mentioning it over his shoulder**
Rats examined the statue in the southwestern room. Curiously ... the eyes were missing from the onyx statue, just a pair of inky black holes that suggested that the entire statue was likely hollow.
The heroes did a cursory sweep of the remaining rooms.
The green areas have been explored: -Front Porch (examined; found nothing out of the ordinary) -Foyer (examined; found weird statue of a peryton) -Parlor (home base for Laurie and Gennifer) -Sitting Room (examined; the room with the eerie painting, the Zepharion-zombie encounter, and the silver dagger) -Kitchen (examined; a delicious-looking muffin was left in the oven for Rats) -Hallway Closets (examined; found nothing out of the ordinary)
The red areas havenot been explored: -The tower (southwest corner) -Two more sitting rooms (center left), each one a mirror of the other. -A conservatory (northwest corner) -A ballroom (center north) [and a closet in the ballroom as well] -A music room (southeast corner) -A dining room (center right), Gooterat ran through here briefly and it gave him the heebie-jeebies [more so than usual :) ]. -The kitchen closet -The back porch -Stairs off of the kitchen (leading DOWN) -Stairs off of the foyer (leading UP)
***OoC: I vote for working clockwise around the outer rooms, so the sitting room (S) looks a likely suspect. DM, can I get the mage hand to the door in 30ft? ***

“Let him not vow to walk in the dark, who has not seen the nightfall.” — Elrond
Gooterat's mage hand pushed the door open, hinges groaning. The air inside this room was still, and carried the faint note of ashes and fires long since extinguished.
This sitting room, though modest in size, held an air of former refinement. Along the wall, a wide fireplace dominated the space. Its soot-stained stonework framed a yawning black mouth that still carried the scent of long-dead fires. The width and height of the firebox was such that one could crawl through and arrive in the next room over.
Above the mantle hung a mirror of imposing size, its frame was thick and ornately carved with twisting vines and shield-like crests, dulled beneath a patina of age. The glass was old, its surface clouded, yet it reflected the entire room in perfect symmetry. A quick check confirmed that the adjoining sitting room on the other side of the wall was laid out in the same fashion. Indeed, each room was a mirror of the other, with the hearth serving as both a shared wall and a strange architectural bridge between the two spaces.
Two rooms, a shared fireplace between them. The orange line in each room is a huge mirror set along the wall that they share. You can enter either room from the hallway, or you can crawl between them thru the adjoining fireplace (currently unlit). In each room, a large mirror hangs on the wall that they share.
Too dark, mutters Boff, commenting on both the lack of illumination and the general vibe of the house. Need light.
He moves into the room and glances around for anything resembling firewood, but will settle for the ancient furniture. With his axe, some oil and his tinderbox, Boff sets about setting and lighting a rude fire in the hearth.

Does the mirror give a true reflection of the room. Or is there something off with it? Specifically, Alaric will go into the other sitting room to Boff (via the corridor. He doesn't trust that the fireplace won't light itself as he crawls through) and sees if there is any form of changes in the mirror as Boff breaks furniture
The little Gnome slipped into the room, slipping the torch back into the fingers of his helping hand. After the "incident" with the picture and Zepherombie he didn't trust anything hanging on the walls in this place. As cautiously as he could, Gooterat peeked at the mirror and tried to remember anything he may have heard about mirrors and magic.

“Let him not vow to walk in the dark, who has not seen the nightfall.” — Elrond
Boff, Gooterat, and Rats stepped into the first sitting room, their boots stirring centuries of dust into lazy spirals. Alaric slipped into the other room, his pact blade crackled a faint crimson glow across cracked plaster and faded drapery ... but the eldritch light did little to quell the darkness.
Boff tossed his newly-made kindling into the hearth. Under the administrations of the dwarf's tinderbox, orange flames began to lick the stonework and a faint light spread unevenly across both rooms. In the wavering glow, the massive mirror above the mantle seemed to drink in the light rather than reflect it.
In each room, the great mirror above the shared mantle reflected each of the chambers. Except ... they didn't. Not quite. Each set of heroes saw something very different.
Boff, Gooterat, and Rats
In the first room, Boff, Gooterat, and Rats saw the glass ripple faintly, like the surface of dark water disturbed by a stone. Within the reflection of the room ... three spectral figures came slowly into focus ... joining the trio of heroes. To be clear ... no one else was actually in the room with Boff, Gooterat and Rats, but the room reflected in the large mirror was another story entirely. In that room, in the reflection of the room, there were now six figures (Boff, Gooterat, Rats and then also three additional spectral figures).
They were armored knights, their faces sickly and pale. They huddled, speaking together, their voices low and urgent.
The trio seemed locked in a hushed argument, their gaunt faces kept turning toward the heroes with brief, worried glances. Their mouths moved, but the words these specters uttered never reached living ears.
Gooterat’s arcane senses prickled — he knew now with certainty that the mirror was more than it appeared. [Arcana - success]
This was no mere reflection, but an echo! A threshold between what is, and what once was. A stage for some horrible old betrayal to replay itself over and over again and again.
Alaric
In his room, Alaric stepped closer to his side of the mirror ... and the warlock realized that it was no mirror at all. The glass in this room behaved as a window of sorts. Or perhaps a portal. Through it, he could see Boff, Gooterat, and Rats moving about the other room. And his friends were completely unaware of the danger that lurked behind them.
Through Alaric's portal-window, he saw a suit of armor along the far wall in the chamber that Boff, Gooterat and Rats occupied. It shifted! Took a step! Metal scraped against stone as it lowered itself from its pedestal, its gauntleted hand closing around the hilt of a drawn longsword. The suit of armor advanced, a free gauntlet raising its visor slowly. It revealed a familiar face, albeit one smeared with blood — it was Alaric’s own face, smiling like a maniac and staring back at him through the enchanted mirror!
All
The fire popped sharply, sending sparks into the air. The fire roared to life and turned an unearthly shade of blue. And just then ... the doors to both rooms slammed shut!
You guys can hear what is going on in each room (thanks to the shared fireplace), but you cannot see what the mirror of the other room is showing the occupant of the room. You can only see the mirror in your own room.
The doors to each room have slammed shut. Moving between the rooms via the shared fireplace is still possible ... but there is now an eerie blue fire burning in the hearth, so ... you know ... probably pretty dangerous.
Light sources — The shared fireplace is causing each room to be lit with bright light. Gooterat (Mage Hand w/ torch), Rats (torch) Active spells — Alaric (Mage Armor); Gooterat (Mage Armor, Mage Hand)
Boff does a double-take when he spots the three extra figures in the mirror - his head swivels rapidly back and forth as he looks alternately from the mirror to the room, trying to make sense of the conflicting views. When the fireplace explodes into blue, he cautiously hefts his axe and backs away from the mirror into the closest corner of the room, trying to get a different angle on the room and it's invisible occupants, his beady eyes scanning back and forth...
