Ah, Phandalin! A breath of fresh air after the clamor of Neverwinter, no matter the reason for leaving. The High Road fades behind, and the Triboar Trail stretches eastward, beckoning toward the foothills.
A frontier town... the very name conjures images of dusty streets, the clang of pickaxes, and perhaps a raucous tavern or two. I wonder what stories the locals have to tell. Will I find grizzled miners boasting of their latest strike? Perhaps a wise old prospector with tales of forgotten veins of ore? Or maybe even whispers of ancient ruins hidden in the surrounding hills?
The air already feels different out here – cleaner, carrying the scent of pine and damp earth. It's a welcome change from the crowded alleys and smoky air of the city. Each step on this trail feels like shedding a bit of the past and stepping towards something new.
Who knows what awaits in Phandalin? Opportunity? Trouble? Maybe just the quiet I was seeking. Whatever it is, I'm ready to find out. The thought of the unknown adventure ahead has a certain thrill to it. Let's see what Phandalin has in store.
Hey there, long-time dnd player here hoping to join some PBP since I am stuck as a forever dm. I played Phandelver years ago, but would love to join up with this group if there is room. I don't suppose you'd be willing to take a human wizard? Background either as a cloistered scholar or as a sage.

Sounds good to me. Maybe you can help me out. I am new to this but really want to get into it. I have been a DM (forever DM some would say) many times but only in person and a few times on Roll20. Any advice would be great.
New to PbP? I haven't done anything on DND beyond before specifically but my suggestion is to establish an amount of time you are willing to wait before you move of from someone. That way you don't stop a scene for months or a combat for weeks because someone isn't posting.
Other than that, DM like normal. Maybe set an amount of text you want for replies if you don't want one liners, and ask for players to say when they want to move on. That last bit is my biggest gripe because there are a lot of times I'll be waiting for players to finish roleplaying a scene only to learn they were stalling/waiting on me as a dm.

Sildar Hallwinter seeks you out, He informs you that, "I have gotten word that the Redbrands have resurfaced. They've seized Phandalin once more." He tells how, after the bloody end of their leader, Glasstaff, the criminal organization had seemingly been dismantled. "But now... now they're back, a shadow falling over the town again. I need you," Sildar needs you, his gaze earnest, "go to Phandalin. Discover what's happening, who is leading them this time, and what their intentions are. The good people of Phandalin are in danger."
Dullin stared in shock at the older man making such outrageous request of her. She was sat in the 'Barley Brew', a homely little tavern close to the Academy she was learning at. His interruption stopped her before she had even taken a bite of the legendary beef and barely stew they served here, the steam still wafting over her.
Dullin had met Sildar some time ago, at the beginning of her last semester. Having survived imprisonment and having fought his face share of battles with them, he proved to be an incredibly useful wealth of knowledge for a shockingly hard to write essay she had procrastinated on during her first semester. He had gladly given her the knowledge, simply asking for a 'favor later on' when she offered to pay from what little money she had. She had expected him to have her create an unseen servant to do his laundry, perhaps clean his home with her cantrips or read some dusty old tone in a lost language for him. Never in a million years did she imagine he would ask for this.
"Go to Phandelin?" She asked with shock in her town. She looked about, expecting some sort of group to jump out and surprise her and reveal this to be a prank. When Sildar didn't budge she learned in.
"Now?" She asked, more incredulously.
"And are you sure you don't want someone else for the job? Maybe someone a bit more... Burly" she suggested, motioning to the scrawny arm to her left, flexing it to not avail to further prove the point.
Kai blew on her stew to cool it & was chewing that spoonful while Sildar spoke with Dullin. Well technically he was speaking to both of them, but Dullin had interjected in a near panic, so...yeah.
"Calm down Dullin. Sildar isn't sure what's happening so he's asking us to check it out. He's asking who is leading them this time, and what their intentions are. Which makes me wonder how he can conclude that the people of Phandalin are in danger. How about it Sildar? Is there more detail?"
She listens intently for his reply, while she scoops another spoonful of stew.

Please create a level 1 character. I would like to get at least a party of 3.

These are good questions. Let's do 2024 as that is what is the latest. we can do roll dice for ability scores and reroll 1s.
Do you mind if I use pointbuy? I'll roll if you'd like but I prefer knowing what I have haha

That' alright with me

Might be interesting if our characters met during their work, both working as more bookish nerd types

May I ask what our relation is with Sildar? I presume this isn't a stranger.

I was going to let you players decide how you know Sildar as part of your backstory. Also how you came to be in Neverwinter and how you all met.
