Vakas slowly reaches into his pack and gently brings out a ration, breaking it in half, he offers it to the mastiff, whispering “Good doggy, good good doggy….” He looks for the door and does not meet the eyes of the mastiff, he backs away toward the door leading to the rest of the house.

A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
Skritch, the blue robed strangers refuse the offer of a berry, waiting for Rachus to speak as suggested. Rachus, you feel a sharp nudge in the ribs from Ember as she nods for you to speak to the them.
Vakas make an animal handling check as you offer your treat.
Thanadol your question breaks the silence and it is the human woman that responds,
"There is little we can do until the creature returns to its resting place," she explains, "It is a shadow beast of Niffelheim, a horror of the elder world."
Kineth, that is your name, correct? I saw a flash of blue light from you earlier. Are you a spell caster? I just became one myself and Thannadol here has been helping me learn, but maybe I can learn some from you, as well. What is the secret to magic? There is so much to know and .... Dealuri will pester in her friendly if slightly clueless way the woman in the blue robe until she provides some answer to Dealuri (Persuasion 21).
Kineth nods at your question Thanadol, "The wards I have placed around these buildings distract the creature. Once it descends we will be safe to venture forth. My companions and I are seeking a way into the temple at the centre of town where all of this mischief started."
"You share too freely with these strangers." the tall blue eyed man named Vandar snaps.
Vakas, while this conversation continues you feed your rations to the hound. It takes them warily and keeps its eyes fixed upon you as you creep toward the closed door.
Dealuri make a perception check with advantage. As you begin to sniff the air curiously, the woman Kineth responds brightly to your questions, "Ah two fellow wizards? We are students of the high mage Merros, we were sent here to investigate this... disturbance. See Vandar I knew we could trust them. This other fellow here is named Gruda, he does not speak... magical accident." she says the last in a whisper that everyone can here.
"So!" she says clapping her hands and avoiding eye contact with Vandar, "What order do you both belong to?"
To Kineth and Vandar, Oh, you are so smart and brave to be here with this dangerous creature. I am so glad we met you and you are kind enough to help us. Don't worry, we will keep your secret," and mimics turning a key and locking her lips. We would be happy to help you go to the temple and sort out all this problem. It can't be easy to live here. Me, well, I don't know what order I belong to. I just sort of ended up with some sorcerer skills. What does it mean to be in an order? Would I get a badge or a cool hat or something to mark me as a member? To Gruda, she signs in Common Sign Language, "Hello, how are you? What is your favorite spell?
Vakas hears the sound of discussion, he backs his way away from the mastiff and makes his way quietly, standing just outside the room, listening for a moment and determining whether to step in.

Thannadol chuckles to the strangers quiry. "I am of the discipline of divination, seeing the slippery whiles of fate so that I may change it" "Wonderful to meet new friends"
Kineth listens to you Dealuri, her eyes wide with interest. "Oh a natural talent, I have never met someone who can draw upon magic through sorcery. I am not even sure that there are any orders of natural magic users, unless they train to become wizards like us and your friend here." she motions toward you Thanadol.
Gruda watches your sign language with interest. He gives a nod of understanding and reaches out to place a finger on a nearby chair which suddenly begins to glow with a brilliant light.
"Put it out you fool." snaps Vandar.
"The light will not escape the wards Vandar." Kineth rolls her eyes in frustration at her moody companion. You wrinkle you nose at a confusing scent within the cabin but (with a 10) on balance decide that perhaps Sunhill has farted.
Vakas as you stand and listen you hear a soft thud behind you as the hound climbs from the bed and pads over to sniff you. Clearly looking for more treats. You feel little buddy skittering around in your pack, sensing the attention of the bigger animal.
Skritch make a perception check for Sunhill.
Kineth brighten at your words Thanadol, "Oh that is so interesting, where did you study? and can you really assist us in cleansing the temple?"
