ooc - I'm interested in figuring out what the wheel was supposed to do. maybe by fixing the mechanism if anyone's got tools to do so. Sadly, I did not think to buy any of the tools Arden is good at using. He still has tremor sense active if it hasn't been 10 minutes. And he does move closer to the double doors to inspect them. Detect Magic doesn't ping the doors at all?
Arcana - 6 (for the runes) History - 16 (any useful info about the doors)
Arden strode up to the double doors, his eyes running over the craftsmanship more than the runes carved into them. He rubbed his beard thoughtfully, curiosity plain on his face.
"Ye think that wheel contraption back there’s got somethin’ tae do wi’ these doors? I’m no mage, mind ye, but I know my way ‘round good buildin’ work."

The doors themselves are not magical. The runes are intense magic.
South Room
Behind the door with the handaxe is a 10-foot-square room with a 1-foot-thick, 5-foot-diameter stone sharpening wheel set into the floor. Pressing down on a stone pedal previously turned the wheel, but the mechanisms under the floor have seized up with age, and the wheel no longer turns.

You are not familiar with the elder runes. Zertell would know they are similar to Symbol spells.

“These runes may be magical too far away to see and may be dangerous “

You can go back the way you came to the yawning portal entrance and make different turns.
