Bao and Fran: You cast your fishing lines into the ocean from the jetty. Roll a Slight of Hand check to deftly waggle the lure; you manage to catch that many piranhas. There's a cost to success, however: for every piranha you pull up, there's another chance one might take a nip at you! Roll a Dexterity Save, and if this is less than your Slight of Hand roll, one of the piranhas attempts to take a bite at your fingers as you get it off the line! (AC still applies against this attack.)
Dain and Julienne: You've got no time for angling piranhas one at a time. Dumping a bucket of fish bits into the waters, you stir up a feeding frenzy! Both of you mus make an Athletics check to pull up the large net together; if either of you rolls under 10, the weight is too much and you spill the piranhas out onto the jetties. If that happens, each of you will roll a Dexterity Save to get away from the flopping piranhas with their gnashing teeth; if you roll under 12, one makes a bite against you, and if you roll under 6, two do! (Again, AC will apply against these attacks.)
Dain chums the water and almost instantly a swarm of gnashing piranhas disturb the previously peaceful waters. Dain throws the net into the mass and attempts to pull out the heap.
Julienne grabs the other end of the net but it quickly becomes too heavy for her and the piranhas spill out on her feet (Athletics check: 6). With a squeak, she tries to avoid the frenzied fish but is too slow (Dex save: 9).
(So Dain did; you posted while I was posting. Nice get-away, Dain!)
Julienne manages to get away from the piranha eventually, though her attempts to impale it with her dagger are less than successful. The piranhas are unable to breathe on land, so it's just a matter of waiting at this point.
"Sure thing, sorry for the trouble" she says and goes over to the others after a quick stop at Ethel's for the right equipment (Sleight of hand check: 5; Dex save: 7).
While fishing, Julienne ponders on the differences between hunting rabbits and catching fish, as she seems to have a hard time with the latter.
The trick will be to keep Fran from eating all the fish... It will probably be fine, she's looking forward to cooking the monster.
Julienne will go with Dain, a piranha frenzy sounds just like her cup of tea. "Let me join you Dain, maybe we get enough piranha for stew tonight!"
Bao gladly accepts the pole and lure and moves off to the fishing spot.
He attaches the lure and casts into the water.
D&D since 1984
Dain collects the chum and net, goes to a location indicated and tosses the chum in waiting for the feeding frenzy to begin.
Okay! Here's how this'll work:
Bao and Fran: You cast your fishing lines into the ocean from the jetty. Roll a Slight of Hand check to deftly waggle the lure; you manage to catch that many piranhas. There's a cost to success, however: for every piranha you pull up, there's another chance one might take a nip at you! Good luck, fishers!
Bao, not having done this before tries his best but only gets 5 fish, but he is fast enough to not get bitten (Slight of Hand: 5; DEX Save: 10).
D&D since 1984
P.S. I LOVE your approach to the fishing. I'll have to remember this method.
D&D since 1984
Dain chums the water and almost instantly a swarm of gnashing piranhas disturb the previously peaceful waters. Dain throws the net into the mass and attempts to pull out the heap.
(24 athletics)
Julienne grabs the other end of the net but it quickly becomes too heavy for her and the piranhas spill out on her feet (Athletics check: 6). With a squeak, she tries to avoid the frenzied fish but is too slow (Dex save: 9).
(17 dex save)
as the net spills the fish out, most flopped towards Julienne making them easy to avoid.
"Come on Fran!" Bao yells to the young Tabaxi staring at the fish. "We need to catch up with the other team."
D&D since 1984
One of the piranhas nips at Julienne's heel as she rushes away! Hopefully she's wearing thick boots! (Attack: 18 Damage: Unable to parse dice roll.)
Dain, the piranhas are at your feet as well, through no fault of your impressive strength; roll a Dex Save!
(Already rolled dex save - post #50)
"Hey, dinner was supposed to be you!" Julienne tries to shake off the piranha biting into her toes and attacks it with her dagger (Nat1 for 3 DMG)
(This is going great :D /s)
(So Dain did; you posted while I was posting. Nice get-away, Dain!)
Julienne manages to get away from the piranha eventually, though her attempts to impale it with her dagger are less than successful. The piranhas are unable to breathe on land, so it's just a matter of waiting at this point.
(Fran still needs to make her fishing checks!)
Dain walks over and brings his maul down on the flopping fish. (14 to hit, 10 dmg)
Then looking at the little halfling suggests, “uhhh why don’t you go help the others with their poles. I can clean up here.”
(OOC: am I allowed to recast the net or was it a one time deal)
The maul splatters the piranha that nipped at Julienne. Well, probably just as good as bait.
(Let's say it was a one time deal, don't want to spend forever on this silly little fishing simulator, we have a village to save!)
Shaking his head, but admiring the younglings can-do attitude, Dain walks back to the others empty handed.
”So were you guys able to catch anything? We nearly had a net full of them but they managed to wiggle free.”
Dain mercifully leaving out who caused the fish to escape, not wanting Jules to feel bad.
{Just got up and catching up with messages}
Fran tries her luck with fishing: Sleight of hand 11, Dex save 3.
She catches some fish, but wasn't expecting them to bite her when she took them off the hook!
